starry night
Soobin was sitting in front of his mirror, the mirror still covered, when a maid called for him.
"Crowned Prince, your father says that you should prepare for the upcoming event." She says, her voice soft.
The young prince scowled, but he couldn't do anything about it. He's scared that people might think of him as rebellious and a careless child.
He sighed, standing up. The young man immediately took a bath, and changed into his formal clothes. As he finished buttoning his tuxedo, he exhaled heavily.
"Fuck it."
Soobin chanted in his mind, he held the sheet that covers his mirror. He once again exhaled, inhaled, and exhaled. The prince hated how he looked, but here he is, needing to look at himself.
After episodes of inhaling and exhaling, Soobin removes the cloth over the mirror, and placed it on the table.
"What is this face?"
He asks himself, unable to look at his face for a minute. He feels horrifying, he feels ugly, he feels degraded. Soobin felt like removing his face, throwing it away somewhere.
The younger, then, started styling his hair to pair with his clothes, and it was the most unbearable moment of his life.
After minutes of styling, the Moon Prince placed the cloth back over the mirror, he hope not to see his face again.
Soobin sighed, his hands going cold, and his thoughts began to spread.
"Why am I suddenly like this? Confidence, Soobin, confidence!"
The Moon Prince chanted, his hands curled in fists. It was indeed frightening for him, but he needed to do it for the sake of their reputation.
"If they don't want me, then I'll be happy, if they want me.. I'll run a hundred meters away from them."
He says, nodding. His vision was starting to darkened as he feels pressure arise, it was suffocating. The pressure, the thoughts— they were all hard to control now.
As the time passes by, the pressure in Soobin started rising; the fear in him, his thoughts scattered in his mind, and feeling dizzy.
"I.. I can do this..!" Were the only coherent words that left Soobin's mouth. He hoped that the night will end quick, or else he might faint in front of other people.
Soobin left his room, walking through the hallway, he could hear the crowd chatting, and his mother declaring to wait for him. Since when did he had a sharp sense?
"Wait.. what..? Huh..? How?" He questioned himself, confused. The Moon Prince's eyes wander, trying to convince himself that he's just hearing things. But, he cannot.
The voices became loud as he walks closer to the stairs, which was the main place was located. The voices, the sound is overwhelming.
Soobin tried to calm himself by breathing in and out. His eyes wandered again, his eyes just couldn't stop in a single area. His heart is beating fast, and his hands became colder.
Every step closer to the stairs makes his hands colder, making his breath heavy, and his heart heavier. He walked down the stairs, and he could feel the eyes of people towards him.
The young prince kept his composure, he's sure that people are judging him. As he reahed downstairs, ladies started approaching him.
"Oh my! He looks amazing!" One lady states, her voice high-pitched. The other lady agreed, both of them squealing.
It appeared the opposite of his imagination. Ladies of different continents, kingdoms, loves him. They think of him as cold, reserve, mysterious, and handsome guy.
He doesn't know whether it was compliment or a complain.
Soobin made his pace quick as he felt that more ladies were coming to his direction. It wasn't really creepy, but rather uncomfortable.
He sat beside his father, while Beomgyu is sitting beside his mother.
"A lovely night to everyone in our Kingdom! I would like to give you my gratitude as you came. I hope that this night, my son— Soobin, will get to choose his future wife." Sunhee declared, earning smile from everyone in the area.
Beomgyu looked at Soobin who was not having it. He felt that his brother was either frightened or devilishly mad, nothing in between.
On the other hand, the young crowned prince internally sighed at he felt the crowd looking at him.
"Go on, Soobin. Socialize." Sunhee commanded, sternly, looking at Soobin with cold eyes.
Hearing his mother, his blood boiled. Soobin looked at him, "you should really shut your mouth." He responded, leaving.
Sunhee raised her eyebrow. She felt that her son is being gentle today. Usually, Soobin would throw words as if they were daggers that kill.
"Hi, mr. Moon Prince~" a princess, stood beside him. The lady was pale, and her eyes are round. Sadly, Soobin doesn't feel attraction towards women.
"Not interested." Soobin quickly answered, walking away with a glass of wine on his hands. He didn't even bother to look at her.
The princess was left wide-eyed. She never knew that Soobin of the Rising Moon is that cold.
Walking far away from the previous lady, he was approached with another one. The next lady seemed timid, she just stood beside Soohin, silent.
"Hi.." she almost-whispered, but it was enough for Soobin to hear.
Soobin nods, "hello. Not interested." He immediately replied, and he was about to leave when the lady spoke.
"Actually.. same.. I'm not really.. a fan.." she says, her voice still soft. "I'm more of a.. woman.. actually.. I like woman." The princess added, which made Soobin surprised.
"How can you share such thing with someone you do not personally know?" Soobin questioned, not trying to sound offensive.
The lady just giggled, "because I feel something from you. You do not like woman, don't you?" She asked, which made Soobin was taken aback. It was personal, yet surprising question.
"I.." Soobin was cut off when the lady giggled again, "no need to explain yourself. You should go and not bother with me," She smiled, walking away from the area.
"Never knew that there are royalties that are.."
Soobin trails off, placing the empty glass on a butler's tray.
After an hour, Soobin felt the boredom strike him, so he silently left the castle. It maybe a risky idea, but he'd rather stay in Tempest Forest.
The young prince rode his horse, running away from the castle. No guard can stop him, he was too intimidating to be asked whatever he was doing.
The Tempest Forest is 2 hours away from the Rising Moon Kingdom, which was too boring for Soobin.
After reaching his destination, Soobin sat under one of the large tree of Tempest. The Tempest Forest's temperature is far different from Rising Moon. Tempest Forest's temperature is cold, and has a weird ambiance for newcomers.
While contemplating life under the tree, Soobin immediately thought of Yeonjun. He wonders what the other prince might be doing.
"Should I call for him?" Soobin thought, giggling. Every time he would think of Yeonjun, he would giggle for some unknown reason.
Soobin didn't think for too long. It might be an impulsive thought but he'd rather spent time with the certain prince than with thousand of princess.
Yeonjun was silently stargazing when a gush of wind hit him. The wind was cold, yet welcoming. Although he doesn't understand those signs, he immediately felt the other prince.
"Do I miss him that much that I can feel him through the wind?" Yeonjun giggled.
Yet, he felt another gush of wind hit him. This time it was different, it was colder, but felt like delivering a message.
"Hmm.." the Chaos Prince hummed, waiting for another wind to come. If his conclusion is right, he will immediately leave the castle, and search for his dear friend.
Another wind came, this time it became warm. And that's when Yeonjun jumped off from his balcony, and followed the wind current.
On his way, the young prince saw how the trail, and environment is unfamiliar for him. It's something he just saw right that night. The trees were somewhat large, and the foliage is wide. The bushes seem abundant as it has plenty of fruit.
He felt that he is close as he felt the wind getting cold. His heart beating in excitement, he expects that his dear friend is waiting for him on the other side.
The Chaos Prince stopped as he feels no cold wind anymore, and there was Soobin, sitting under a tree; probably the largest tree among he saw while on his way to the certain area.
Yeonjun's expectations never failed him. It was his dear friend. Although he has grudge towards the young man's mother, that doesn't change his view for him.
Soobin, on the other hand, was reading a book when suddenly he feel someone behind him.
"Hi." The man he expected to came greeted him, peeking over his shoulder.
The Moon Prince looked at him, smiling, it was Yeonjun; as he expects.
"You came."
"You called."
Both of them giggled, but Yeonjun stared at him, lovingly.
"So beautiful." He thought, as Soobin tells stories about what happened inside the castle for the past few days.
"And earlier, Sunhee and Byungho wants me to marry a princess." Soobin stated, his voice with pure anger. Yeonjun raised his eyebrow as a cue to continue.
"The event is still going on, but I left," Soobin added, laughing as he imagines Sunhee's face when she realized he's gone.
The black-haired elder giggles, "you shouldn't do that tho. I know how much you hate your parents, but still." The elder responded, his voice calm.
Soobin nods, "but don't you hate Sunhee?" The younger asked, unintentionally.
"I do." Yeonjun responds, looking at the stars, "but I don't hate you." The elder adds, looking back at Soobin who's face is painted with worry, and fear.
Their eyes met, and it seems that the elder wouldn't break the contact any moment.
"I.. ah.." Soobin looked away, feeling his face heat up.
"I'm telling the truth, Soobin. If it was you who chased me that time, I will never run." Yeonjun added, indirectly confessing all the things he would do for the younger.
Meanwhile, Soobin felt his heart race, it feels like that it was gonna leave his mouth anytime soon.
"You okay, Soobin?" The Chaos Prince called, looking at him concerned. The Moon Prince just nodded, still cannot look at Yeonjun.
After some minutes, both Yeonjun and Soobin are sitting under the tree, telling stories at each other. The young prince became more comfortable as the elder showed him signs of trusting him.
Sooner, the feeling of trust and comfort became much more mutual. And for Soobin, it might have been the best night— him and Yeonjun sitting beside each other, watching the stars, telling childhood stories, and he was comfortable enough to share his traumatic experiences.
The Moon Prince might have found someone who will make the moon brighter each night, someone who will go against the coldest wind at night, and someone who will give him light despite the darkness.
"Choi Yeonjun."
