dreams: curse and blessing
Why?
Beomgyu sat in his bed, torn. His heart breaks as every second passes. The feeling was foreign, the ascension of Soobin made a large void in his heart. It was devastating, painful. He stared blankly at the wall. The void in his heart grew bigger, and darker as he reminisce his older brother's ascension.
Minutes passed, as he was about to leave his room, he heard his mother, walking down the hallway, grinning. Beomgyu leaned by his door, waiting for a conversation.
"I can't wait for this Kingdom to prosper. All those sacrifices I made, all the things I did.." She paused, breathes out, "Finally." She continued, happiness evident in her voice.
Beomgyu's stomach churned, thinking, why does his mother hates his older brother so much? So much that she never showed any emotions of sadness nor pity when her SON ascended, never coming back.
His emotions washed in him, his eyes aflame, he left his room.
"WHY do you hate hyung so much!?" Beomgyu shouted, his anger overflowing. Sunhee flinched as she heard the young prince shout.
Sunhee smiled, "dear, you wouldn't under—", "I won't understand?! Why!? Do I look like a child to you?!" The young prince interjected, his fists clenching. The woman's face turned stoic.
The gray haired man walked closer, and spoke, "I won't understand what?! Did he ever wronged you? Did he do something you couldn't forgive?" He breathes out, his eyes never leaving focus on his mother's, "Soobin-hyung wouldn't be a rebel if it wasn't for you! Sure, a father could've done worse, but YOU!.." Beomgyu paused again, catching his breath.
Sunhee's face didn't change, her anger growing.
".. you ARE a mother! But you never let Soobin-hyung felt a mother's love. You ARE a mother, YOU are supposed to love him, support him." Beomgyu continued, unfazed. Although his mother is looking directly as his soul, he didn't budge to move. He wanted to find out where the resentment comes from.
"Even in his last days on Earth, you never loved him even just a little bit. You—"
"ENOUGH, Beomgyu!" Sunhee cuts off, her anger heightens. Beomgyu stood there, still unfazed of his mother's voice.
"Soobin isn't Byungho's son." She reveals, voice lowers. Beomgyu, inside, wasn't surprised after all, but he couldn't say that he expected that fact.
The Queen exhaled heavily, "He was the product of me and my old spouse." She paused, feeling lonely, "We loved each other, genuinely. The day I was supposed to tell him I was pregnant, was the day he told me he is arranged with another woman." Sunhee tells, her voice getting soft as she reminisces her memory with the man she loved. Her face shifting into sadness.
Beomgyu still couldn't understand, and Sunhee noticed.
"Soobin looked like that man. I resented him, thinking I was doing revenge towards the COWARD man who have left me." She added, her face turning stoic once again.
Beomgyu stood there in disbelief. How could a mother do this to her child? This is immaturity, he was flabbergasted to say the least.
Yeonjun, sat in his balcony. Feeling lonely as he looked up to the moon. Usually, he watched Soobin raise the moon.
"Goddamn. I've been longing you for so long. I wonder, do you still remember me, dear?" Yeonjun lamented, reaching his hand up to the sky, as if he's reaching the orb.
Grandma Chae has been witnessing Yeonjun talking to himself for two days. The old lady saddens as she watches his grandson, sometimes, cry.
The Chaos Prince decided to watch the moon until he felt sleepy. His heart never felt so empty his whole life. He felt like that no one can fill the emptiness of his heart like Soobin did.
"I should've tell you how much I love you. I should've spent more time with you." He spoke, voice laced with sadness. Oh he wished that everything is a nightmare, and he wishes once he woke up, he will see Soobin by his side.
The thought of not seeing your love is more heart breaking than seeing him with another person. At least, that's what Yeonjun feels.
———————
A millennia has passed. Soobin never felt so bored his whole life. He would've preferred in their kingdom, though he was mistreated, but life could've been so much better with Yeonjun.
"Is it the time?" Soobin questioned.
All alone in the moon, all he did was to sleep, watch the stars, and visit dream. He doesn't have any idea of what's happening on the Earth— not even a slight glimpse. At first, Soobin tried leaving the moon, but only to be pulled back to where he left. He tried many ways, but every way failed, which led him to give up.
This time, the moon let him do what he wants, but he couldn't physically visit the Earth.
"Can I visit Yeonjun's dream? Choi Yeonjun." The Moon Successor requested, in which the moon agreed.
The young man smiled. It's been thousands of years since he last saw Yeonjun. His memory served as his replacement just to see the elder.
Nighttime, but Soobin felt odd. He suddenly felt tense, nonetheless he prepared himself. While traversing doors after doors (which is a way to a someone's dream), he felt his physical body appear. He felt weird because those thousand of years, he was levitating.
Then, he stopped.
In front of him are doors. Each doors has specifications. For example: a door with flower designs is for a lady who owns a flower shop. Before Soobin are three doors with the designs, specifically: flowers, cookies, and moon.
Although it was weird for him, and he feels uncertainty, he entered the door with the moon design.
As he entered, he saw that the dream was kinda different from what he was expecting. Soobin thought he entered the wrong door, when suddenly, a familiar figure appeared.
It was Choi Yeonjun.
Soobin's heart thumped. He doesn't know what to do. The moment he appeared in front of the man's eyes, is the moment he could alter his dream— possibly, his memory.
The Moon Successor smiled sweetly, walking closer to the man who was standing. He looked like he was waiting for something. But, when he was about to reach him, another figure appeared.
That didn't shocked him, but when the figure came into clarity, he was surprised that it was a lady— a lady that he, Soobin, has no familiarity with.
Yeonjun, in the dream, smiled as he sighted the woman. Soobin knew damn well that people who makes appearances in dreams are the people who the owner of the dream thinks about.
He stopped, and observed the two. They are so happy. Both smiling as if there is no problems in the world. Soobin's heart was torn between feeling happy or bitter. Yeonjun's smile was enough for him to smile, but, the lady.
In the dream, another figure appeared, but the figure didn't come into clarity. The figure was just blurry, yet familiar— for both Soobin, and Yeonjun. The only difference is Yeonjun couldn't pinpoint the person, while Soobin knew who the blurry person was.
It was him.
He can't go wrong. The blonde hair, the posture, and the height. It was him, blurry. This means something, he knows that.
Soobin knows that he could change Yeonjun's memory in an instant if he appeared in front of him, but there's a part of him that refuses to.
He saw Yeonjun, torn. The elder doesn't know where to go. Whether it is towards the blurry man, or the lady.
The young man knows that the moment is a "now or never".
So, Soobin stepped back. Using his ability, he flicked the blurry figure.
That's what he decided to do. Soobin knows that falling in love is inevitable. He can't stop Yeonjun from falling in love with the lady. The Moon Successor was foolish to think that, after thousands of years passed, the Chaos Prince is still in love with him.
"That's what he deserves." Soobin murmured, smiling once more.
The dream shifted immediately, it didn't alter Yeonjun's memory, but it showed that when the figure disappeared, the elder sprinted towards the lady, and hugged her.
Soobin did something that isn't aligned with what he feels, but he knows that what he did was right.
The Moon Successor slowly walked away— out from the dream. As he left, he closed the door tight, and have decided what to wish for.
—————————
Back in the moon, with his soul appearance, he stood there. The lady's face was still vivid in his mind. He doesn't felt any pain, just empty.
What he did is enough, seeing Yeonjun is already enough.
"Have you considered your wish? This is.. quite heavy. You will be needing to sacrifice your memories." The moon spoke, surprised. All years of living, only this young lad had wish for something so unique. Never in moon's life had he received a wish for someone else. Always about themselves.
Soobin chuckled, "Yeah. If he forgets me, then I forget him. That's good." He joked, but deep inside him was a burning pain. "And, I don't really care. If it even means to sacrifice my physical body, or soul."
The Moon didn't seem to react. Nonetheless, it responded to Soobin's request.
"Alright, once the wish is granted, you are going back on Earth. Thank you." The moon informed, earning a chuckle, again, from Soobin.
"Don't laugh. I never felt thankful to any of your ancestors. They are all either greedy or self-centered." The moon stated, making Soobin smile.
The moon started performing the practice, on the other hand, Soobin stayed there, waiting.
"The Moon is certain, that your wish may be heavy, but your intentions are clear and pure." The moon spoke, and it was the only words that Soobin heard.
Before his memories were altered, and some, erased, everything flashed in front of him; from his young days, to the present one.
"Good bye."
