Both of them had started developing feelings for each other, though neither realized it yet.
Today, Sol A went to school as usual. She intended to invite Professor Yang to eat as a way of repaying him for paying for her last time. She saw him standing in the school courtyard and ran up to ask him. Just as she was about to reach him, another girl suddenly ran ahead and waved at him:
“Let’s go eat, teacher!”
“Kim Han Joo! This is school, you can’t do that,”
“It’s fine, let’s go quickly, I’m starving,” Han Joo pulled him along, leaving Sol A standing there watching. Sol A felt sad, this girl was very beautiful and seemed close to the professor. Someone as cold as Yang Jong Hoon letting a girl wave him along like that.
The next day
The first class of the day was criminal law. As usual, Professor Yang entered the classroom, but behind him walked another girl. Sol A was surprised, it was the same girl from yesterday. The whole class started whispering because the girl was very pretty.
“Everyone, quiet down. Today we have a new transfer student.”
“Annyeonghaseyo, I’m Kim Han Joo, a new transfer student. I hope everyone helps me out.”
The boys in the class began vying for seats next to her. Professor Yang smiled, and Sol A was annoyed, why was he smiling at that girl?
Usually, Sol A eagerly answered Professor Yang’s questions, but today she remained silent throughout the lesson, ignoring his lecture. Seeing her inattentive, Professor Yang called her out:
“Kang Sol A!”
“Nae?”
“What’s the problem here?”
“The problem is…”
“What is it?”
“I don’t know, Professor.”
“Why aren’t you paying attention in class? Do you want to fail this exam?”
“Joesonghabnida, gyosunim.”
That day, after being scolded by Professor Yang, Sol A’s mood was sour. Joon Hwi noticed and asked,
“Are you heartbroken?”
“What?”
“Why do you look so upset?”
“Just something happened that annoyed me.”
“What happened?”
“Nothing.”
After class, Sol A wanted to find Professor Yang to return the money he had paid for her before. When she reached the door, she saw him leaving with Han Joo. They were laughing and joking together, making Sol A jealous. She felt that Professor Yang no longer paid attention to her.
That evening, Sol A went to the supermarket to buy fruit. She saw Professor Yang again, but he wasn’t alone, Han Joo was with him. Sol A began doubting their relationship but decided to ignore them and continued shopping. After paying, she walked out to the lobby, but it was pouring rain. Without an umbrella, she waited for the rain to stop. Suddenly, she heard the professor’s voice behind her, so she hid behind a wall. Earlier, he had taken an umbrella that she had brought along and walked home with Han Joo. He didn’t know Sol A was there watching. Sol A felt very sad seeing Professor Yang go shopping with another girl and sharing an umbrella with her.
After a while, the rain didn’t stop, and Sol A ran back to her dorm, drenched. When she reached her room, her clothes were soaking, but she didn’t change, she just stood there crying. Sol A didn’t understand why she felt this way. Just thinking about Professor Yang being close to another girl made her feel abandoned, as if the whole world had turned its back on her. She cried for a long time.
The next morning
Because she had been drenched in the rain the night before, Sol A caught a fever. She didn’t have the strength to go to school, so she called Ye Sul.
“Yeoboseyo!”
“Ye Sul?”
“It’s me.”
“Can you come to my room? I think I have a fever.”
“I’ll be there right away.”
Ye Sul arrived and found Sol A unconscious and burning up. She immediately took her to the hospital.
During Professor Yang’s class, his first glance naturally went to Sol A’s seat. Not seeing her, he asked Joon Hwi,
“Why isn’t Sol A in class today?”
“I don’t know either.”
Professor Yang grew worried, not knowing why she was absent.
During the lesson, Ye Sul opened the door and came in. Professor Yang noticed her late arrival and asked,
“Why are you late today?”
“I was busy taking Sol A to the hospital, so I’m late. Sorry.”
Hearing that Sol A was at the hospital, Professor Yang became very worried.
“What? Sol A, what happened?”
“She has a high fever, so I took her to the hospital.”
After hearing this, Professor Yang lost all focus for teaching. Throughout the lesson, he kept thinking about Sol A, wondering how she was.
To be continued.
