A. AS IF, AS THOUGH : như thể là

· Nói về điều gì đó không có thật ở hiện tại

... as if / as though S + V(past)...

Ex: It is not winter.
—> The lady dresses as if it were winter.

· Nói về điều gì đó không có thật ở qúa khứ

... as if/ as though S + Had V3/V-ed...

Ex: He didn't see a ghost.
—> He looked as though he had seen a ghost.

B. WOULD RATHER : thích , muốn

S + WOULD RATHER THAT + S2 + V2 / ED / WERE ...

Ex: His friends doesn't work in the same departtment.
—> Henry would rather that his friends worked in the same department

C. THÌ HIỆN TẠI GIẢ ĐỊNH :

S + V + THAT + S + (SHOULD) V-INF ...

Thường đi với các động từ ORDER, COMMAND (ra lệnh) , REQUEST, ASK (yêu cầu) , DEMAND, REQUIRE ( đòi hỏi ) , PROPOSE , SUGGEST(đề nghị) , INSIT ( khăng khăng), URGE (hối thúc)

Ex: He demanded that he be allowed to meet his lawyer.

IT + BE ( Any tense ) + ADJECTIVE + THAT + SUBJECT + V-inf
Tính từ thường là essential, necessary, important, advisible, urgent, imperative.

Ex: It is necessay that your mother follow the doctor'advice.

D. THỂ SAI KHIẾN (CAUSATIVE FORM) :

GET SOMEONE TO DO STH.
HAVE SOMEONE TO DO STH.

Ex : He got Daisy to move this chair away.
They had me go to the market to buy some food.

GET / HAVE SOMETHING V-ed / V3 BY SOMEONE

Ex : She got her car repaired by Peter.
Why didn't you have your house painted ?

E. NO SOONER ... THAN... & HARDLY ... WHEN : Ngay khi ... thì ...

No sooner + Had + S + V3 +Than + S + past tense
Hardly + Had + S + V3 + When + S + V2

Ex: No sooner had he appointed the post, the new editor fell ill.
Hardly had I solved the problem, I was faced with another.

F. IT WAS NOT UNTIL... THAT S + V2/V-ED...
It was not until + (mốc thời gian) + that S + V2/ed .....

Cấu trúc ngữ pháp trên có nghĩa là " mãi cho tới khi ..."

Ex: It was not until midnight/ 12 o'clock that he arrived home.
(Mãi cho đến nữa đêm / 12 giờ thì anh ấy mới về tới nhà)

G. IT IS (HIGH) TIME ... : đến lúc :

IT IS HIGH TIME + (FOR SOMEONE) TO + V

Ex : It is high time to go.
It is high time for them to leane the office.

IT IS HIGH TIME + S + V-ed/V2/were
Ex : We should do something about it now.
—>It is high time we did something about it now.

H. PREFER ... TO ... : thích ... hơn...

S + PREFER + V-ING/NOUN + TO + V-ING/NOUN

Ex: She prefers staying at home to going to market.
They prefer coffee to tea
