Moonlight

"Comet," Star asks, "Are you sure about this?"

River, Star, and I sit in front of the portal as I nod, getting up, "Look guys, family isn't blood, but you guys are my family, and if I don't act, if we don't act, Moon will hurt you. Hurt us. The longer we wait the stronger her magic will grow and I'm tired of the sneaking around. I'm OK with waiting and all but... can we really afford to?"

River sighs and looks at both of us, sharpening his ax, "If we don't all make it... remember, that someday in the after life, a good place, we will see each other again. At least, that's what I believe I understand if you don't but I do, so, someday, all three of us and those you call family Comet, will go there and be together, a family forever in the cloud. So please, promise me, if one of us goes to the Heavens to soon, don't give up. Promise me you'll keep going."

"We will dad," I nod.

River lifts his ax and hugs me and Star, "Good. I love both of you. I'm so, so proud of you. Both of you, and I'll always be proud of you."

"We love you too," Star replies as we hug him back.

I take a deep breath, Star and I gripping the halves of the wand. My sister, father and I, of both blood and love, about to face a monster who merely happens to have blood ties to me.

"Do the others know?" Star ask.

"No," I reply, "Unless you told Jim."

"No," Star shakes her head, "Moon has become to unstable and dangerous if we bring the others they could get hurt. Let's go."

The three of us enter the portal.

A portal to Castle Mewni...

This is Moon this chapter.

My ex husband, daughter, and...

Comet?

How is-

No Comet is dead.

How is he here in front of my throne?

"Moon Butterfly," Star glares, "We need to talk."

"There is no point to talking," I sigh, "Is there?"

Comet strikes with a narwhal blast, answering the question as I dodge, sprouting wings.

"So that's how it is?" I glare, "So be it!"

I sprout my wings, my flesh turning blue and glowing with a magical light as I feel magic course through my veins, and blast at the trio with a beam of dark magic, who scatter in response. I go after Star first, who dashes down a hallway of my castle, shooting spells at me that I block with a barrier of raw magic, blasting Star in the arm with a beam that causes her to cry out in pain.

"You..." I growl, "You little tratior. You were going to be queen! My heir! You were going to rule Mewni just like me!"

"Rule like you?" Star demands, before casting a spell to summon a rainbow colored sword made of magic, which I counter with a pale blue magical sword of my own, the two of us clashing as magical sparks fly. "Like you? You tried to make me kill my brother! I watched powerless to help him for years and it was almost impossible for him and I to be family again? Be like you? I would rather die than be like you!"

Star leaps back before charging me, which I parry, disarming her. She strikes with a narwhal blast that pushes me back, but I catch a narwhal by the horn and throw it back at her, stabbing her in the leg. She cries out in pain, and begins to limp away as I charge her, only to hear a voice. His voice.

I can't contain it. I can't. I only see green. I only see an insect to be squashed. An enemy who must be slain at any and all costs.

"You..." I growl, unable to think or form words as I see my sister in pain.

Sister in pain.

No.

Comet focus. Deep breaths. I can't-

Big bug hurt sister.

No! No! Focus! I'm better than this! I can't kill I know it's wrong! I-

Kill her.

I feel rage consume my mind, darkness devours all within and I feel higher thinking drift away as I approach.

"Kill you," I hiss as I approach, green lightning cackling around me.

The insect attempts to blast me with a beam of dark magic, her eyes turning green, which I counter with my own, hers overpowering me and blasting my shoulder, but I'm able to carry on.

"You hurt sister," I continue.

She charges me with wrath in her eyes, a sword in her hands as she cries out.

"You hurt me," I proceed as I block the blade with my hand, allowing it to impale me so that I can hold it in place.

I lift my wand, "I kill you. You hurt family."

I feel myself skipping away, as Jushtin chuckles in the depths of my mind, "So what now Moon? You're going to Hell and I'm taking your son. Any last words?"

"If I'm going to Hell," Moon replies, "Fine, but I'm dragging us to Hell together. I'll draw out someone who can and defeat you."

"What do you-" Jushtin asks.

I quickly speak, aiming for Comet's head, the worthless child who only hindered me and deserved everything I did to him.

I cry out, "I call the darkness unto me from deepest depths of Earth and sea. From ancient evils unawoken. Break the one who can't be broken. To blackest night I pledge my soul, and crush my heart to burning coal. To summon forth the deathly power. To see my hated foe devoured!"

Moon prepares to blast me with that spell as I reach for my wand. I won't let her hurt any of the others. I can't! I will make sure if anyone dies it's her and me!

Suddenly I'm pushed back, and the last thing I see before the spell goes off is River, pushing me back and stabbing Moon, killing her.

Then everything goes black.

When light returns...

He's dead.

River...

Father...

No.

Please...

I cry out, "Fatherrrrrrrrr!"

But there is no reply, in defense of my own life, River had lost his own.

I grip my hat, covering my face to hide my tears and limp over to Star to help her walk, only for her to support my weight.

"What..." Star asks, "What do we do now?"

I signal for Star to move us to Moon's body, an ax in her chest, where I spit on her corpse.

"Do you think she ever had regrets?" Star asks.

"Killing me?" I inquire, "Maybe. Otherwise, no. See Star, that's how bad people think. They think their children deserve it and that they're good parents, but these are lies, and if there was ever a book with their perspective, these thoughts in their minds would be included, not to make them seem good, but to show just how evil and delusional they truly are."

"We need to get medical attention," Star explains, "And... Comet?"

"Yeah?" I inquire.

"Nevermind I thought I saw... something," Star sighs, "Like the curse but I guess not. The curse only effects queens. Let's go."

Star looks back at River, and too begins to cry as I open a portal, "It's OK. We... we'll see him again. Not soon, but... someday."

Star nods as we return to Earth at the Diazs where I see Tiffany and Marcie holding hands watching an epsiode of Jimmy VS the Forces of Darkness. I feel my body give out and collapse, only for Star to catch me.

"What happened?" Tiffany demands when the two notice us, "Here I can burn the wound shut! Call 911!"

"No fire," I plead, the scar burning at the mention, "No fire..."

That's the last thing I recall before I pass out, waking up in a black space where I see him, muttering, "This kid and I are so much alike. Taking control of him will be-"

"Oh my God Jushtin!" I exclaim, "My hero!"

I rush over as Jushtin turns to face me, shocked, "Oh, you're here?"

"Actually yeah," I reply, "But... where is here?"

"Your mind," Jushtin explains, "I'm in your mind. I used to be in Moon's trying to stop her but the curse was to strong, and now I'm here to help you rule Mewni. I'm your hero you said?"

"Yes!" I exclaim, "I wanna be just like you!"

"Well," Jushtin smirks, "Follow my lead and trust me, you will be..."

"Comet!" A voice yells, "Wake up!"

I awaken to see Tiffany comforting me, crying.

"Wait," I demand, "Where's Star?"

Star enters the hospital room on crutches, "I'm OK bro. I'm OK."

"We were so worried!" Tiffany exclaims, "You were out for three days! River hasn't come home and-"

Star elbows Tiffany, and she corrects herself, "Oh... right. Well he's... in a better place now."

I sigh, "You're right. Help me up."

"What?" Tiffany demands, "No. You need to rest."

"Someone needs to rule Mewni!" I exclaim.

"Yes but not yet," Tiffany replies, "Marcie and I were on a date when you showed up too you scared us. We're worried about you."

"I'm OK now aren't I?" I inquire, "And- wait what?"

I feel my cheeks glow pink, so did Marcie choose that? That's cool but I should still talk about it with-

"One thing at a time," Star sighs, "I have bad news. That spell used Moon on dad..."

Star shows me a page in the spell book, "Glossaryck told me that it... it'll free Eclipsa."

"So what you're saying is Eclipsa is not only alive somehow, her death covered up or something but also-"

"Yes," Tiffany sighs, "Eclipsa Butterfly is free on Mewni right now..."

End of season 3.
