Perfection

Two years ago...

"Greetings mother," Star spoke quietly, timidly, as she approached Moon, hiding her fists.

"See you've finally been taught proper," Moon replies with indifference, sipping tea, "I take it Miss Heinous was helpful?"

Star wants to vomit at the mention of her name, but chokes it down and replied, "absolutely! I'll be in my room!"

"One thing," Moon gets up as Star desperately tries to escape the conversation, "keep in mind, a princess must be thin. Don't make the same mistake you made six years ago."

"I understand," Star forced a smile, as her cheeks glowed a faint green. She head up to her room and looked in the mirror. She was a perfect princess now, just like Moon wanted.

...

Enraged, she shattered her mirror and began crying. This wasn't who she us, and to this day...

Isn't who she is.

Present day...

She dreaded this day, the day of getting her wand. Since she was twelve, she dreaded the idea of getting a wand, it was one more piece in the puzzle that made her more and more "proper."

When she entered the room, she darted her eyes across all the royalty and nobles.

"Star Butterfly," she heard her mother across the room, "eight years ago, you were a reckless and dreadful girl, and now look at you."

She did look at herself, in her broken mirror, every day. Slim posture, blank eyes, poofy dress, and hated it with all of her heart.

She walked up to the alter, "you are at the point of getting your wand, something that has been passed down from generation to generation in our family lineage," the empty queen held out the hand with the wand.

Star took it, with her hands shaking. The wand turned black, with intersecting pillars going from the top of the Handel to the bottom. A star was in the base, with a black tint. The wings were bat wings, with tiny teeth at the end.

"Now," the queen continued, "as much as I would like to keep you here and make sure your not reckless, Mewni is not safe for someone of such royalty," this is what Star was afraid of, she thought of the rules and teachers, and hated all of it, "so we are sending you to Earth."

This puzzled the young princess. She had thought she was getting sent to St. Olga's horrid school for unwanted princesses.

After the ceremony, she was forced into a carriage by some Mewni secret police, and left Mewni. The happiest day of her life.

As she stepped out of the carriage, she was given a huge pile of gold to five to the principle for admiration into the school while being told to go to a certain Marco Diaz's house.

She walked into the office, "I am Star Butterfly, princess of Mewni, and an offering you a gift for admiration into your school."

The man behind the desk slid the chest across the desk, "deal," his quiet voice whispered.

Star walked out of the office. The school day was long after over, five o'clock. She was given a map by the secret police and followed it. She came across a two level house.

The young princess knocked on the door. A woman with a pink-white striped shirt, brown hair, and jeans answered the door.

"Hello," Star asked, "I was told I was living with you here.

"You must be Star!" The woman replied, "I'm Angie, Marco's mother, we got a message from this knight on a horse that you'd be with us."

Her stomach rumbled. And Angie noticed.

"Oh! You must be hungry!" She insisted, "here, I have dinner ready."

Star's stomach roared with hunger, and she wanted to eat, but she couldn't bring herself to do so.

She remembers something that happened six years ago. Back at the wretched boarding school she had gone to...

It was a cold day outside, and Heinous didn't hear the school in order to teach princesses discipline. Freezing, Star had snuck into the kitchen and stolen some hot chocolate, which warmed her up and chased away the bitter cold...

That is until Henious burst into her room. She pulled Star by her hair and dragged her to the bathroom.

"Throw it up you little pig!" Henious demanded.

"No," Star refused.

Henious slapped Star, leaving a red mark on her face.

"Do it!" Henious yelled, "get in that stall and don't come out until you're skinny like a princess should be!"

Star wanted to run, but knew it was useless. She went into the stall and forced herself to vomit. Ever since then, she didn't eat much. She always vomited after reading, and whenever she looked in the mirror, she still saw that fat girl from that day...

She couldn't see she was dangerously underweight.

"I just ate," Star lies, gripping her stomach, "I'm fine."

"Are you sure?" Ms. Diaz asks, "you look famished."

"I'm fine," Star lies, "really."

"Alright," Ms. Diaz sighs, "suit yourself. Let me at least introduce you to Marco. Hey Marco! The new exchange student is here! Come say hi!"

Marco sighed, or, forced himself to sigh, hiding his eagerness to meet someone new as he put on his black leather jacket and walked down the stairs. He approached the blonde girl with a fake glare and explained in a forced hostility, "I don't like you. You don't like me. Stay outta my way and I'll stay outta yours."

Star looked at him. She had seen a lot of these kinds of people through her window in Mewni, but had never seen it up close.

"Fine," she started to walk, "Oh and, were do I sleep?"

"Upstairs, third door on your left," Angie replied.

"Thank you," Star walked on, carrying what little she had.

She did what Mrs. Diaz said, and arrived in a small room with a bed on the right.

"Oh no, this won't do," she whispered to herself.

She took out her wand and held it arm length from her. She thought of a spell to change the room into something magnificent. When the process was over, there was a huge room with a big bed with a over hang. The wall was lined with torches. She sat on the bed, the lack of sleep contemplating what to do on the day she got her wand and the hunger got to her. Star passed out.

Meanwhile, Marco, in his room, was thinking about what to do with this new "princess."

He knew right away something was off. Her stomach was roaring with hunger when she walked in, but she didn't eat, and her ribcage was visible under her dress, despite the fact she wore a puffy dress to hide this fact. Marco let out a deep sigh.

He noticed something else about her. Her eyes had this green glow to them, and behind the can smile, dances a burning fire of rage and destruction. Distantly dancing behind her eyes, waiting to be unleashed.

There was something wrong with her, that was certian, but Marco isn't sure if he should help her or stop her. She may be insane, but he's not certain.

He exits his room to grab a bite to eat, and hears a deep rumbling from Star's room. On one hand, he has to keep up his facade, but he is overcome by concern and knocks on the door...

"Star?" He opens the door, finding it unlocked.

He sees a broken room, the torches are knocked down, the bed is almost completely destroyed, the table has things on the floor near it.

In the middle of the bed, he sees what seems to be Star, casting warrior spells in her sleep.

Star hears Marco opening the door and bolts upright. The two stare at each other for a moment. Marco still notices the fire in her eyes as he examines her.

"Okay, look," he begins, "you're obviously not what you seem, you're scared and angry."

"Well I wouldn't say that," Star begins.

"But you are," Marco interrupts, "and I-" Marco stops, not wanting to reveal his facade.

"You're what?" Star asks, with curiosity and anger in her eyes.

"Look," Marco sighs, "I see it in your eyes... someone hurt you, didn't they?"

Star looks away, "my mom."

"What?" Marco asks.

"My mom," Star repeats, "she sent me to this hellish place where princesses are reformed. She made me into this fake image, and I have to keep it that way. I can't go back there."

"Does that place have something to do with what you won't eat?" Marco asks.

"I told you I just ate," Star lies, not willing to eat out of fear of being fatter than she sees herself as, "don't worry about it. What about you?"

"My dad..." Marco stops not wanting to go into the details with some girl he just met, "he's in a better place you could say."

"What happened?" Star asks.

"He's gone," Marco snaps back returning to his facade, "it doesn't matter. Now, look, it's clear you need to eat, and you're gonna eat something, anything. OK? Just say what you want and I'll get it, but you're not going anywhere until you eat."

"Anything?" Star asks, "you're not gonna make me eat, like, three pounds of celery after eating a chocolate bar?"

"What?" Marco asks, "no."

"Chocolate," Star replies, "lots and lots of chocolate."

"Got it," Marco replies, "I'll be back."

Marco heads downstairs to get the chocolate, opening the fridge to find it devoid of anything chocolatey. He opens his wallet, which only has ten dollars in it. He sighs and leaves, going out to buy chocolate, just so the poor girl will eat something.

He returns with the chocolate a little while later and gives it to Star.

"I'm not leaving until you eat-" Marco is stopped as Star wolfs down the chocolate with no hesitation. She starts to feel better, and smiles at Marco.

"Thanks," she smiles.

"I didn't do it for you," Marco puts on his facade, "I did it to prove a buddy of mine I would. See ya later."

Marco exits the room, and as soon as Star can't hear him, sighs with relief. Star's state is truly worrying to him. Even I he just met her, under his facade he knows he can't let anyone die...

Not after what happened to his dad.

As soon as Marco is gone, Star gets out of bed and goes over to the a window over the back yard, and forced herself to throw up what she's eaten, unable to bare the thought of gaining any weight. She looks in the mirror, and still sees herself as fat. She tries to vomit again, but nothing happens. She sighs, wishing she could shed just a few more pounds, and goes back to sleep...

New outro.

I think Earth seems like a pretty nice place.

Better than Mewni, and that wretched school I've seen.

The people here, can't know my secret.

While I'm here I must maintain perfection.

I wish it wasn't like this, but I'm not going back.

I would probably snap, if I saw Henious again.

I must maintain this facade, or I'll have to go home.
