it was then when you

{thin blue lips were the eyes
of the ocean with empty waves,
ribbons of torn blue flakes of
the clouds sewn together with
a thinning thread of white,
with the despondency of day
and night, of island emptiness
and solitude, unsponsored, free
in the canvas, of that wide water,
inescapable, for her eyes captured
yours in a trance from across the
field of white ice as you held my hand
giving it the last squeeze of love.
whispering the unprinted silence
as the shimmering snowflakes
tickled her eyelashes, she smiled
at you—a smile that never reached
my clueless eyes.
her hair was whiter than the
snow underneath her fingers,
she had flawless skin, the heart
of the wandering ghosts around
her, for she was one of them—the
queen of them in a way.
blinded by the beauty falling off
of her lips, the sweet promises of
if winter once could penetrate through
all its blues to the final slate; her
laughter rung throughout the rink
and mesmerized the monstrous
ghosts, repercussions of death.

w h i s p e r e d, "goodbye snowflake,"
certainty, fidelity was shone, on the stroke
of midnight pass like vibrations of a bell struck,
and fashionable madmen raise, their pedantic
boring cry echoing in the dawn, and as
the fireplace flickers far away, as you walk away
with her clinging to your arm, leaving me
stranded by the memories left
by snowflakes dangling by the
ends of my hair, angelic messages
descend through the air, on clouded
feather-beds, lining in chambers
as darkness is cheap and silence
has yet to only scream.
all is left is transparent bodies
marked by texture and incessant
torture, for you will be the one who
has yet to realize}
that h e l l was
w i n t e r and you were
