So today is Easter.  Happy Easter if you celebrate it.  I'm not super religious, but it's a good excuse to have a nice dinner with family.  

Easter is interesting because, unlike Christmas, it's on a different date every year.  Do you know how they figure out when Easter is?  It's the first Sunday after the first full moon after the Equinox.  That sounds like some pagan festival reckoning to me, which is how it almost certainly originated.  Christianity seems to have co-opted a lot of pagan holidays, which was probably a smart move as it made it easier to convert the heathens when they got to still celebrate their rituals.

I'm still not entirely clear on how the Easter Bunny got involved with all of this or why he hides eggs.  Wouldn't an Easter Chicken make more sense?  At least in terms of the egg part?  Still, I do remember having fun searching for Easter eggs when I was a kid and there's nothing wrong with fun for its own sake.  

I also remember one year I thought it would be hilarious to pretend I was protesting Easter and celebrating Wester instead.  I know, I know.  I don't understand why I'm not a professional comedian either.
