6.
He quietly entered the house and saw the man leaned over Legolas, a wet cloth in his hand. He cleaned the blood off of his face and neck with a gentle hand, then he lay the cloth on his forehead.
Aragorn stood quietly in the doorway, watching the man work.
The healer had already cut off all the bandages, exposing Legolas chest covered in dark bruises from the troll's mace. A deep, ugly wound stood out from all, in the middle of his stomach. His jaw also has a big purple bruise from when he hit the floor, right under his bottom lip. His right arm was filled with dark bruises from where the troll had grabbed him, and just below was the ugly cut. It was not as deep, but still long and painful.
The dirty and bloodied cloths lay in a pile on the floor beside the bed.
He opened a box and took out the bottle of sterilisation and a needle.
Alarmed, Aragorn walked forward, accidentally startling the man with his elven movements.
"What is that?"
The healer visibility relaxed and held up the needle and bottle for Aragorn to see.
"I need to sterile and stitch the wounds, they're both open and infected."
Aragorn closed his eyes in a silent sigh. What he did wasn't enough, the wounds were infected. His own healer abilities told him that they have been all along, therefor the fever.
"It was probably from the knife or dagger he was stabbed with. You could have done nothing more with the supplies you had."
Aragorn nodded and stepped back.
"I'm sorry, I needed to make sure."
"You are untrusting, I like that." The man smirked and went to sterilise the wounds before he would stitch them.
Legolas frowned deeply in his unconscious state and unconsciously moved his head around with a sigh as the cloth with sterilisation made contact with the open wound on his arm.
Aragorn went over and sat on the bed by the elf's head, stroking his hair and forehead gently. Legolas head tipped backwards and he slowly opened his eyes, looking through his eyelashes. Aragorn smiled calmingly as Legolas finally focused his pained eyes on him.
"Aragorn?" He whispered weakly, hating the weakness.
"Yes Legolas I'm here. I found some help." Aragorn smiled and continued to stroke his blonde friend's hair gently.
Legolas smiled weakly before he squeezed his eyes shut in pain, the wrinkles once more appearing. The pain exploded from his stomach and he clenched his jaw hard. His whole body tensed up, from head to toe, literally. Sweat began to form on his forehead and Aragorn took the cloth to wipe it away, concerned.
He held his hand hard as the healer bandaged the wound on his arm. Legolas clenched his jaw tightly not to moan. Gléomer then moved to the wound on his stomach, cleaning around it before stitching. Legolas took in a deep breath and held it long, until he let it out with a huff of pain.
"Breathe Legolas, remember to breathe." Aragorn gently whispered. He stroked his hair and hand until the healer was done and bandaged it back up.
"..hannon le." Legolas whispered to both men weakly before he fell back into the world of unconsciousness.
"What did he say?" The healer frowned and looked at the other man beside him.
Aragorn looked up at the man, amusement in his eyes which were dark with worry.
"He said 'thank you' in Sindarin." Aragorn explained and looked down at the elf again. He grabbed the blanket and covered Legolas in it, trying to protect his bare skin from the cold even as he knew he couldn't feel it.
The man nodded slowly and Aragorn almost smiled at how much they were amazed by the elves.
"He was lucky, the dagger did not pierce anything virtual. I gave him herbs for the pains before you entered. It should sooth them, but will probably leave him sleeping for a while."
"That's good." Said Aragorn.
"That's really good, then he won't feel the pain. Just do what you can for him, please."
"Of course."
When Aragorn awoke the next morning he quickly opened his eyes. He had fallen asleep against the wall, sitting beside Legolas head. He sighed and stretched his neck, making it crack loudly. He has not gotten much sleep and his eyes longed for more. Instead he sighed and rose to go to the creak to wash off. He hadn't in a few day and he began to feel like he needed it.
The healer entered the house ten minutes later with some food. They ate for about five minutes before the healer suddenly laughed.
"Oh where are my manners, I haven't even presented myself." He said and held his hand out over the table, which Aragorn shook politely.
"I'm Gléomer, the healer of the village."
'This man seems nice.' Aragorn thought. 'Nicer than Duinhir."
"I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn and King of Gondor."
"King?" Gléomer's eyes widened and he bowed his head deeply.
"Forgive me my lord, I did not know."
They heard a small, weak chuckle and turned to Legolas on the bed, who had a small, weak smile on his face.
"He does not like to be called 'my lord' Gléomer." Legolas whispered in a hoarse voice before the smile faded and he squeezed eyes shut in clear agony.
"Legolas." Aragorn breathed and rose from the chair to sink to his knees by the bed.
"How are you feeling?"
"Weak..." Legolas grimaced in pain and met Aragorn's eyes, looking into the grey, wolf like eyes of his friend. Aragorn could see the pain clearly as the blue eyes began to moisten up.
"And my whole body is quite sore ... But I'm fine, I ..." He coughed roughly and his eyes teared up more in pain.
"Fine..."
He knew it was a big understatement.
"Legolas, you're gonna be fine." Aragorn said in a matter of fact and eyed the bandage, which surprisingly hadn't bled through yet. Gléomer must be a great healer by the looks of it. He took the cloth from and lay his hand on the elf's forehead, unfortunately feeling that the fever was still there.
He got a mug of water from Gléomer and gently held it against Legolas lips. Legolas drank a mouthful to sooth his acing throat before he closed his lips to signal he have had enough.
"Try to sleep some more Legolas." Aragorn said gently and placed the cold cloth back on his forehead.
For once Legolas did not complain and closed his eyes in a exhausted sleep, much to Aragorn's relief.
He rose to face the other man and smiled.
"I mostly appreciate your help."
Gléomer smiled back and bowed his head slightly.
"My pleasure my lord."
"Please, as my friend here says just call me Aragorn." Aragorn chuckled and gently placed a hand on the man's shoulder. They shared a smile before he left the house of healing.
He went into the fresh morning air and drew a deep breath. He put his hands on his hips and looked out over the village.
He had barely time to blink before a amazed voice startled him.
"Are you really the King of Gondor?"
Aragorn turned to face a young lady, carrying a heavy water bucket from the creak. She had long, brown, curly hair and a green dress. She seemed really nervous and finally realised that she literally just admitted that she had eavesdropped.
"Forgive me my lord. I did heard that Gondor had a new King but I did not know who..."She said and bowed her head, her hair covering her face from sight.
Aragorn put a polite smile on his lips and reached out a hand.
"I am Aragorn, more known to the world as Elessar. Gondor's King."
The girl placed down the bucket and shook his hand, a amazed look in her eyes.
"That's a elvish name...oh I'm sorry I am Déorwyn my lord. I am Duinhir's nephew.."
"A pleasure to meet you." He smiled and the girl smiled back, showing her perfect teeth in a wide smile.
Gléomer couldn't not pity his patient. Getting attacked by mountain trolls was no walk in a garden. He also had to admit he was gorgeous, even when he was dirty and bloody, something an elf should never be. He longed to when he could see him in all his glory, clean and up walking.
Aragorn once more entered the healing wing to see Gléomer sitting on the bed, watching Legolas who slept. He seemed woken from a daydream when Aragorn entered the room. He looked up and smiled a bit awkwardly, as if he was caught doing something wrong.
"He is out of danger at the moment."
Aragorn noticed how Gléomer looked at his friend and the couldn't help feeling a bit jealous. But instead of showing it he smiled in relief at the good news. He refused to give up hope yet, they have come too far to give up hope.
He sat down on the bed beside Legolas head, gently stroking his hair once more. He found it relaxing.
Then he remembered why he walked back in the first place and put the injured leg beside him on the bed. He pulled the pants leg up, showing the ugly wound to the healer.
Gléomer grimaced a little before he rose from the bed.
"It's not as serious but you should've treated it sooner." He said as he opened the bag with supplies again and taking the sterilisation out.
"I was too worried about my friend to remember it." Aragorn said, meaning every word.
"I understand that." Gléomer sat down beside Aragorn with some sterilisation and bandage. He easily cleaned the scratch and bandaged it smoothly. Aragorn did not even notice the pain anymore, he just glanced sadly at his friend sleeping beside him.
"Thank you." He said when it was done and pulled the pants back down painlessly over the bandage.
"It's my job." Gléomer smiled.
"Can we stay a few nights?" Aragorn asked, hoping they could. They needed a place to stay. He hoped he wasn't asking for too much.
Gléomer thought for a moment before he eyed one of the other beds in the healing room.
"It should be fine, you can sleep in here." Said Gléomer and gestured to the bed just beside Legolas own.
"Just be aware that other patients can come and sleep in here also."
Aragorn bowed his head deeply, happy to have a place to stay a few nights.
"Thank you."
Gléomer smiled.
When Aragorn awoke the next morning he really did not want to open his eyes. He felt more relaxed and comfortable than he had been in a few days. Finally he thought about Legolas and forged his eyes open to see that he still slept in his bed right beside him. He had a slight frown on this face, but was still more peaceful that he had been the past few days. The rise and fall on his chest made Aragorn smile, even as it was strained.
He reached out a hand to feel the soft skin of his friend's cheek, silently praying to the Valar. Why did Legolas have to go through this? He was the most innocent person he knew. On the other hand it was tradition for them to search up trouble every time they left home, and always survive it.
Just in that moment Gléomer once more entered the room with a tray. He sat down in a chair by the table in the opposite corner of the room.
Aragorn sighed and sat up in his bed, making the healer's gaze fell on him.
"I got you some food Aragorn."
"Thank you, I appreciate it." Aragorn smiled and sat on the edge of the bed.
Gléomer smiled and nodded.
