Chapter 13--Prep for Fight

"No way." The shock in Melanie's voice rang from the speaker of the home phone into Hiro's ear.

"Way," Hiro confirmed with her. "But how Callaghan got out of jail, I don't know."

"Hold up." On the other end of the line, Melanie brought out from her bag a pen and a pad of paper. "Callaghan? You mean Robert Callaghan?"

"Yeah," Hiro nodded. "He stole my microbots and started the fire that caused my older brother's death!"

"Funny enough," Melanie piped up, annoyance evident in her voice. "He was the driver who crashed into us and caused the death of my younger sister!"

"We can't lose (Y/N), then," Hiro concluded. "You probably figured it out, Melanie. (Y/N) and I are...well...I just..."

Tears started flowing from Hiro's eyes, but he managed to hold them back to stop them from spilling onto the floor.

"I figured," Melanie said.

Hiro nodded. "I don't want to lose her! She's lost too much. I've lost a lot too."

"And I also lost someone close," Melanie added. "But what can we do?"

"Hey, I'll spill you a secret." Hiro then told her about Big Hero 6 and how they were formed to help a lot of people in memory of Tadashi.

"Sounds awesome!" Melanie cried. "Hey, you think I can join you? (Y/N) is my best friend too, you know."

Hiro chuckled. "Of course! We can give you upgrades and then you can fight alongside us."

Melanie nodded. "Okay. Should I come over right now so we can get down to business as soon as possible? The earlier the better."

"Yeah, of course!" Hiro agreed. "I'll see you at the Cafe, then?"

"Sounds good," Melanie said. "I'll see you soon!"

"See you soon," Hiro said, hanging up.

It wasn't long before Melanie showed up, and Hiro approached her.

"Hey Melanie," Hiro waved.

"Hey Hiro," Melanie greeted him. "Okay, so I've got a general design and my desired upgrades on this notepad. If we can get this armour done tonight, we can get to (Y/N) sooner."

"Sounds good," Hiro smiled, leading Melanie to the garage and scanning her and giving her all the upgrades she wanted. When he was done, he held up a fiery orange suit to her.

"Try it on," he encouraged her.

And Melanie did, marveling at how flexible the black jumpsuit was so that she was still able to move around and do whatever she could. With a touch of a button on her left arm, she could shoot out ropes from her hand, and Hiro even incorporated micro-neurotransmitters so that she could control how the ropes move around, and even command them to retract if she didn't need them. If she pressed the button twice, she found that she could shoot out a properly woven net. Hiro also incorporated a radio system in Melanie's helmet, and along with her outfit came a belt which shot out a rope to suspend herself on the ceiling to attack from above.

"Whoa," Melanie said in awe, the moment she landed on the ground and retracted the rope from her waist back into her belt. "No wonder (Y/N) loves you! You are such a genius!"

"Hey, she actually doesn't know we're superheroes yet," Hiro reminded her. "Any time soon she'll know...but I don't know if she'll like me after."

"Do you like her that way?" she asked him gently.

Hiro nodded. "I already confessed to her. Even you figured it out."

"Then she'll love you no matter what," Melanie smiled. "Superhero or not, she won't judge. You'll always be Hiro to her, regardless."

Hiro smiled back at her. "Thanks, Melanie."

"Any time. Hey, should we call up the rest of the gang?"

"Yeah, you're right. Let's do that."

Hiro quickly changed into his classic purple armour before getting Baymax into his own red armour.

"Whoa," Melanie said in awe again at Baymax's new look.

"Hey, the best part is, he can fly," Hiro told her.

"Impressive." Melanie nodded in approval.

"I have already contacted everyone else," Baymax told them. "They should be here soon in their armour."

"Good," Hiro smiled, giving Baymax a pat on the back.

Soon, everyone else showed up in their armour.

"So I was right!" Wasabi cried. "It wasn't Mr. Lacitier who wants to get rid of her after all!"

"Yeah," Hiro nodded. "I just talked with Mr. Lacitier myself, and he doesn't sound like a bad man. In fact, he...well, he really cares for (Y/N) like a father. I have to say, that is admirable."

"But keep in mind that he is close to both (Y/N)'s father AND mother," Gogo pointed out. "In a way, he's already saddened by their loss, so obviously he doesn't want to lose their child to danger."

"Well...that's admirable," Honey Lemon commented.

"Yeah. Now let's go!" Hiro cried. "It's on the island, the same island where we fought Callaghan the first time."

Just as he climbed on Baymax's back, his cell phone rang from inside his pocket, and he picked up instantly.

"Hello?" Hiro asked in the mouthpiece.

"Hiro, it's (Y/N)," you said.

The sound of your voice made him relax.

"(Y/N)!" Hiro cried, relieved. "Oh my god, are you okay?"

"I'm fine," you answered him. "I'm have some company with me, actually...the people I'm staying with...would probably give you and Melanie a bit of a shock. The people who you thought were dead aren't dead at all. They're with me."

Hiro looked at Melanie with a puzzled look.

"What happened?" Melanie whispered.

Hiro looked like he was going to fall off from Baymax's back and faint. "Your sister...is on the island. But I don't know which one of the dead from my side is there."

"Hello?" you prompted over the phone.

"Sorry (Y/N)," Hiro apologized. "It's just that...when you mentioned that just now...well, let's just say that's a bit too much for me to process."

"Hey, don't worry," you promised. "They'll be just as surprised as you are when they see you. And we're on your side. I hate Callaghan with a loathing so strong, I could very well match my father's level of hate for that matter."

"Well, we're all on the way," Hiro assured you, laughing in relief. "Maybe with luck, we'll see you soon...and revisit the dead."

"HEY!" you protested, laughing. "They're not dead. Trust me."

"Okay okay," he said. "Well, we'd better get going."

"Alright. Hope to see you soon! And..." you paused, not sure whether or not it was safe to say it over the phone, but you brushed that thought aside. "I love you, Hiro. Stay safe!"

"I will," Hiro promised. "Love you too."

The two of you hung up, and then Hiro got everyone safely on Baymax's back, though Melanie opted to stay on Baymax with her ropes, tying them around his legs.

"Let's go!" Melanie cried.

"Full thrust!" Hiro cried, and Baymax soared away, everyone holding on to him, out of San Fransokyo towards the island.

***************

"You. Love. My. Brother?!"

Tadashi gaped at you, speechless now, after you hung up.

"You have a problem?" you asked. "He helped me through so much. He helped me through my parents' deaths. And as a result...well, we opened up to each other so much more. He was mourning for you, Tadashi! Just as much as my mom mourned for my father, and she didn't even make it. His strength was just as admirable."

"Hey, calm down," Tadashi said, putting a hand on your shoulder. "I...I just didn't know. Not until you said that last bit to him...when you said you love him."

"I do," you stated firmly.

"Will Melanie be coming soon?" Gisele asked you, interrupting your conversation with Tadashi.

"I suppose so," you said. "Though I don't know how they could get here."

"Anything can happen," Tadashi nodded. "He knows how to use that big brain of his, I hope."

You nodded in return. "Well, we can't just stand here and do nothing while they defeat Callaghan again."

"So what can we do?" Gisele asked.

You decided to take Hiro's words to push the group forward. "Hiro once told me, that...we're not tied down to who we are now." You spread your arms forward, and Tadashi and Gisele stood with you, grinning. "We can be...way more."

"What do you say we start making weapons to get back at Callaghan?" Tadashi asked you and Gisele. "I'll see if we can shut down their security system so that Hiro and everyone else can get in undetected. Then we can go to the lab room and upgrade ourselves."

"You think this will work?" you asked.

"Hey. I might as well do something to help, like my brother is on the other end," Tadashi said. "Don't worry."

"Alright then," you agreed. "Let's go."

Together, you approached the locked door. Using Gisele's hair pins, Tadashi picked at the lock and the door swung open. Then the three of you tiptoed quickly to the end of the hall, ducking low so that the security bots don't detect you, and entered the control room, where Tadashi quickly shut down the security system with the press of a button.

The familiar sound of the power going down in the school gym at San Fransokyo High filled your ears, and you knew it worked.

"Alright. Security shouldn't be able to suspect a thing." Tadashi nodded, and then motioned you and Gisele over. "Into that room. Let's go."

In a few moments, you were all scanned and you all helped design and program your upgrades and suits together. In the end, you came out with a piece of silver armour with a neurotransmitter built into your helmet and sensors through your arms that could help you levitate big heavy objects from the ground and launch it at the enemy. Gisele's armour was a bronze colour, and she owned the power of speedy teleportation, a bit like Apparition, with a touch of a button on her helmet that would bring her to wherever she desired. Tadashi came out with a pure gold armour that could eject sharp ninja stars from the sleeves of his armour, and he also had an attachable stick on his back in the case he needed to protect the rest of you from the microbots should your levitation and Gisele's teleportation stop working. And all three of you incorporated invisibility in your armour with a touch of a button on your right arms.

"Good going," Gisele remarked, stroking the skirt of her new armour delicately.

"Now, for Callaghan," you muttered.

"Yep. Let's go," Tadashi nodded, jerking his head to the exit.

Then the three of you activated your invisibility boosters and pushed past the security guards, and headed to the main chamber where the remains of Silent Sparrow remained, breathing hard, waiting for Hiro and the rest of his gang to show up.

WOO. WOW. What a chapter full of upgrades and stuff. Yes, I made this different from my other fanfictions. So no judging or complaining or objecting or anything.

Anyway, that's it from me for now.

Peace out!
