Chapter 7

Steve didn't know where to start looking for Mojang, so he decided to search the village for clues. First, he put on the iron helmet-still bearing the word Mojang-for protection. Then he picked up the iron sword that the Villager had dropped. Now he had a chance against monsters, regular or controlled by an evil group.

Steve started by checking the forge. It was a small wooden building, with a pit of lava outside of it for forging tools. He walked into the forge, trying not to look at the bodies of the woman and child. Inside, there was a chest. Steve opened it. There was an iron pickaxe, four wool, and an apple. He took everything, figuring no one would need any of it. Then he walked back outside.

Steve continued searching every building in the village. In most of them he found nothing. In a few, he found food. He also took all the carrots and potatoes, took the wheat and made it into bread. Now he had plenty of food. But he still didn't know what Mojang was.

When he had searched almost every building, he gave up. Steve slumped down against the building he was next to and sighed. I'm never gonna find Mojang, he thought.

Then he realized something. The building he was sitting against was the library. There might be stuff about Mojang in the books. He got up and walked inside. The four Villager bodies were still in the corner, no longer alive. There were seven bookshelves, each containing who knows how many books. It would take forever to go through them all.

Instead of reading every book, Steve took one out, read the cover, and either threw it aside if it didn't seem interesting, or read a few pages to see if he could find anything about Mojang. The first bookshelf only contained children's books. Steve stopped after a few books and moved on to the next shelf.

After going through three books in each shelf, he concluded that the first one had kid books, the second one had young adult books, the third had adult books, the fourth and fifth had history books, and the sixth and seventh had maps.

Steve immediately started looking through the history books, hoping to find something about Mojang. Once he had a good stack of books that looked like they would help him, he sat down on the wooden bench and started reading. He barely registered the fact that the sun was setting.

The first book he read told him nothing worth noting. The second one talked about a war. Apparently, fifty years ago, there was a great war with Herobrine, the magical being who could control monsters. For awhile, Herobrine controlled the world, but then the humans rebelled. It was humans vs. monsters. Then, a small group of people, who called themselves Mojang, attacked Herobrine himself. All the members of Mojang died except one, a noble human who sent Herobrine into hiding. That human's name was Notch. After the war, the world was in disarray, until Notch stepped in and created a government. Notch is the leader of that government still.

The government's name is Mojang.

Steve did a double take. The government were the ones who killed all these Villagers? Why would they do that? And why were they filming it?

Steve didn't have the answer to any of these questions, and neither did the rest of the books in the pile. They all acted like Mojang was the best thing ever created, but Steve disagreed. Government or no government, they still killed a bunch of innocent Villagers, and Steve would put an end to that.

Then Steve realized something. If the government could control Zombies, who says they couldn't control other monsters? What if they used the monsters to take over the entire world?

Then he had an idea. He would check the map bookshelves for maps leading him to Mojang headquarters. He got up, glancing outside as he walked towards the bookshelves. The moon was rising.

Steve looked through the maps, trying to find one that would lead him to Mojang headquaters. There were maps of cities, mountains, oceans, islands, lots of stuff that Steve couldn't use. Then he found something he could. A map of the general area he was in. He recognized the village he was in, which apparently was called Harville, and the lake his house was next to. The map was mostly plains. To the south was the forest he started in, and to the north was a jungle. To the east was a snowcapped mountain, and there were nothing but plains to the west. The lake was in the center of the map.

On the back of the map it said "Sector 36". After rummaging through a lot of other maps, Steve found a map that showed a lot of sectors. It was laid out in a grid, seven blocks across and down, with 48 sectors. In the center was a sector labelled "Mojang Headquarters". That's where Steve had to go.

To get there, he would either have to go north through sectors 29 and 23, then east from 23, through sector 24, and into the headquarters; or east through 37 and 38, then north from 38 through 31 and into the headquarters.

Steve decided that first, he would go home, mine enough iron for protection-or maybe diamonds-then he would set off for Mojang headquarters.

Steve stood up. Something caught his eye in the corner of the room. It was another book, one he hadn't seen earlier. It didn't have anything on the cover. He picked it up and opened it. On the first page it said "Eddie's Diary". That must've been one of the Villagers. Steve decided to look through it. It might say something about why Mojang attacked Harville. He flipped to the first page, reading from the moonlight coming in through the window.

Then he heard a groan in the corner.

Steve jumped up and looked. The four Villagers were getting to their feet!

"You-you guys aren't dead?" Steve asked, trying to get a good look at their faces. Then one of the Villagers stepped into the moonlight, its face illuminated by the eerie glow. Only it wasn't a Villager anymore.

It was a Zombie Villager.

Steve grabbed the two maps he was looking at and the diary, stuffing them in his inventory. Then he ran away from the hideous Zombie Villagers that were walking slowly towards him.

He burst out the door and turned towards the village. Zombie Villagers were getting to their feet everywhere. Steve ran the route he had taken earlier to sneak up on the hovercraft, running around the outside the village. Once he passed the house he had first seen the hovercraft near, he stopped to catch his breath. His body was still sore from everything that had happened since he woke up with no memories a few short days ago.

There was a groan right behind him. A Zombie Villager walked out of the house, coming straight for Steve. He ran again, not bothering to stay on the gravel road. He felt like he was in a nightmare, or the zombie apocalypse.

As he was passing the forge, the woman, child, and man with the sword stood in his way. They were all Zombie Villagers, and they didn't seem like they wanted to let Steve pass.

Steve gritted his teeth and ran towards them, iron sword in hands. He swung, knocking down the man Zombie Villager, who had gotten to him first. The Zombie Villager kid ran at him with surprising speed, and he was so short Steve almost missed when he swung for him. But he connected, and the disgusting creature went flying. The Zombie Villager woman came at Steve, but he pushed her aside with his sword and ran.

He was finally on the gravel road leading nowhere. He followed it out of the village, not looking back.

Steve escaped the Zombie Villagers and ran into the night.
