A Shocking Encounter
At the end of training, it was normal for Vlad King, the homeroom teacher of Class 1B at UA high school, to call all the students over for notes on their practice and a small peptalk. However, it was unusual for him to ask for individual students to stay after to speak privately. As the rest of the students flooded into the hallway to change in the locker rooms, F/N L/N stayed behind.
"You wanted to see me, sir? Is something wrong?" Y/N asked, standing at attention.
"Y/N... how are you liking UA so far?" Vlad King asked in his usual gravely tone, though he seemed a little hesitant.
Slightly confused, they responded, "It's great, the training is harder than it was at Shiketsu, but I would like to say that I'm getting used to it..." they looked back at the locker rooms before turning back and asking, "Is that all, sir?"
Vlad King sighed, "Well you've just received your provisional hero license, and we're glad to have you here at UA, but some other faculty members," he grimaced, "have said that my students are not participating enough in the side missions. Which is all because of that crazy class 1A, the mission board is next to their classroom so they can get to them early! It's ridiculous!"
"Um, sir?"
"Yes?"
"What does this have to do with me?"
"Oh. Right." He cleared his throat, "The side missions. One was set aside because none of the pros can do it, and no class A student has the right quirk. I'm asking if you're comfortable here because I think you're ready to get on the field. And this mission is perfect for your quirk!" He shouted with a toothy grin.
Y/N looked surprised, their quirk wasn't exactly flashy, and wasn't the best in fighting, hence their failure to get passed the UA entrance exam the first time. They were lucky to get in on a transfer recommendation from Shiketsu.
Vlad King smirked, "This is the perfect way to prove you belong here, and to prove that class 1B is just as good, if not better, than 1A!" He held out a hand, "So what do you say? Are you up to the task?"
With a small chuckle, Y/N shook their teacher's hand, "I'm here to be a hero, not sit on the sidelines."

Once changing back into the school uniform, Y/N hurried up the stairs to one of the faculty meeting rooms, knocking on the door as they entered. Many teachers sat waiting for their arrival, including Vlad King, Eraser Head, and even Principal Nezu.
"I was told to come here for a mission brief?" They asked, a little intimidated.
"Excellent! Come take a seat Y/N," Principal Nezu replied, "We were hoping you would help us on this difficult case." Pushing a button, a presentation on the case popped up on the projector screen behind the principal, "Present Mic, if you will?"
Present Mic stood, slamming his hands on the table, "It's a missing persons case! We've had at least five people call in missing persons, but the only thing they had in common was the last place they were known to be." The slide flipped in the presentation, showing a neon lit building downtown, "This club called Flux. Very hip, very in, yo! I Tried getting in there a couple weeks ago and the bouncer told me-"
"Mic. Focus." Eraser Head hissed.
"Right. We had a warrant, already used it to investigate the place but nothing seems out of sorts- except the barman. The waitresses, especially the new ones, all look to the barman when asked questions, like they're waiting for the go ahead to answer. That's why we think the missing people have something to do with the drinks, it can't be a coincidence, right?!"
Y/N furrowed their eyebrows, confused, "So people are still going missing, why can't you get another warrant?"
"They are already suspicious of us, the bouncer doesn't let any pros or recognizable faces in, and we want to investigate while having them act natural. That's the best way to catch them- or the real culprit- in the act." Principal Nezu stated.
"This is why we need you." Vlad King added, "We all think the barman is the leader, and we think there's something in the drinks. Your quirk could help us confirm that."
Eraser Head looked over at Y/N, "Explain your quirk in more detail, Vlad King was waiting for you to fill the rest of us in on why you're so important to this mission."
As Vlad King huffed, Y/N stood, holding out their hand, "The pores in my skin can absorb and secrete different chemicals, all while my brain analyzes what chemicals are being put in and out. With enough electrolytes in my system, and some outside help from my gear, I can change liquids into completely different substances through chemical reactions."
The group surrounding the table let out various oohs and ahs, but Eraser Head seemed unconvinced, "If we were to send you on this mission, you can't use any gear. Flux doesn't let people in with that, remember?" He sighed, "And if you take in any kind of poison from the drinks you're analyzing, you'll skill be poisoned. Isn't that right?"
Vlad King stood up to protest, but Y/N spoke up first, "Yes... but I've found in my training that with enough stirring, or heat, or an electrical shock to the mix, I can change the chemicals faster than they can poison me." They looked to Vlad King, "I-uh-also have built up an immunity to a lot of toxic material."
"That's right! That's my student!" Vlad King shouted proudly.
"But you still need your gear to do that. We're in the same situation." Eraser Head said, emotionless.
"Unless-" Principal Nezu spoke up, "We pair them with another student with a quirk that can cause similar effects." He looked over to Y/N, "What facilitator helps with most chemical reactions?"
Blinking, Y/N stuttered, "I guess it would be electricity, since it can provide some heat as well as the electric shock to the mixture."
Principal Nezu nodded and turned to Eraser Head, "What about that student in your class, Aizawa? Does he have any missions lined up for this weekend?"
Eraser Head sighed, "He's supposed to have a mandatory study group with some other students... but I guess I can excuse him for a mission."
"It's not one of your delinquents is it? I don't want their stupidity rubbing off on my class." Vlad King huffed.
Without a reply, Eraser Head pressed a button on the phone in the center of the table, "Someone find Denki Kaminari and get him in here." He groaned.

The door swung open, revealing a boy with blond hair and a cocky smirk, "You called, teach? I heard you needed me for a mission, which means I get to miss study hour-" He seemed to suddenly notice the principal, "I mean- I have to miss study hour... darn... but for the good of the community." He pulled up a chair and sat down, "How can I help?"
Eraser Head sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose, "This is Kaminari."
"DENKI KAMINARI, QUIRK: ELECTRIFICATION-" Present Mic shouted, only to be hushed by Eraser Head once again.
"Kaminari, this is F/N L/N, a transfer student who recently entered class 1B." Principal Nezu explained, "They're going on a mission without access to their gear, so you will have to join them in order to solve the case."
Kaminari frowned, "So I'm just going as a gear replacement? Lame. I bet I could handle the mission by myself."
"MY STUDENT IS VITAL TO THE MISSION-" Vlad King protested.
"Not now Vlad." Eraser Head quickly interrupted, "Besides, Kaminari, you need all the extra credit you can get."
Principal Nezu cleared his throat to prevent any further protests, "You both will not be able to use your gear or hero costumes, you will need to find clothes appropriate for the Flux club."
"Oh nice, a club! Party time with the cutie from 1B-" Kaminari said with a wink at Y/N.
Eraser Head promptly stood and grabbed Denki by the ear, pulling him out of his chair, "Get your kid ready, Vlad. I'll try to prep this sorry excuse for a student." He sighed before pulling Kaminari outside the meeting room.
Principal Nezu chuckled, "Alright then. You two are to meet nearby Flux tomorrow night. Good luck to you both."

Monoma had many protests about Y/N pairing up with a member of class 1A, switching between dramatically claiming that: "Kaminari will take all the credit for our newest classmate's hard work-" and vowing that: "But Y/N will prove to that idiot that 1B is superior!"
Once Kendo promptly shut Monoma up with a slap on the back of the head, the pair of them helped Y/N out in finding an outfit nice enough to get into the exclusive club. Monoma, surprisingly, had excellent taste in fashion.

On Saturday, when night fell, Y/N followed their teacher's instructions, calling a cab and getting out a few buildings away from Flux. Stepping out and adjusting the fabric of the jacket they wore, they began to walk down the sidewalk, the neon lights of the club flashing in their vision.
As they stepped forward towards the line to enter the club, Denki Kaminari straightened himself, pushing off of the wall where he was leaning casually. As he eyed Y/N up and down, he gave a goofy grin, rubbing the back of his neck as he gave a small, "Wow...."
Y/N raised their eyebrow, "Speechless huh? Focus on the mission please." They whispered with a small chuckle.
Kaminari shook his head, shaking himself out of whatever fantasy his mind was in, "Right! Right." He stepped forward and slowly put his arm around Y/N, "Damn I really lucked out of study hour."
The pair strutted forward, entering the line to enter Flux. Surprisingly, many people were rejected by the bouncer, and the line went slower than one would expect. Once Y/N and Kaminari got to the front, the bouncer didn't ask if they were on the list, rather simply asked:
"Quirk?"
Y/N looked over at Kaminari with a raised eyebrow.
"Electrification." He stated with a smirk, holding up his free hand and letting some sparks fly.
The bouncer looked at his phone for a moment, frowning before looking over to Y/N.
"Chemical manipulation. Toxins, alcohol, all liquids basically." Y/N said with a shrug, trying to give off a casually confident air.
The bouncer seemed a little surprised, giving the pair a small grin before lifting up the rope separating the line from the club.
The pair walked inside, the blaring music covering their conversation:
"I'm not one to come to clubs often, or at all really, but I'm pretty sure they don't let you in based on quirks." Kaminari said.
"Try to act like you belong here, Kaminari." Y/N replied, looking around.
"Oh come on, we're pretending to be together, call me Denki." He smirked.
"Well, Denki, let's head to the bar and talk to the bartender."
Grabbing Y/N's hand, Denki pulled them back toward himself, "Don't go straight to the target, act like you're having a little fun being here." He gently lifted up their chin, "Let's dance."
Immediately Denki began to pull a surprised Y/N towards the lit up dance floor, giving them a twirl before letting go of their hand and starting to dance.
Slightly in shock, Y/N was frozen in place for a moment. They tried copying Denki's movements, but it just felt too unnatural.
Denki moved in closer, "Okay, just... hold on-" He cautiously grabbed Y/N's hips and helped them get into the rhythm, all while looking like a flirtatious boy. Rising back up, he whispered in Y/N's ear, "Just relax and have a little fun, they have no reason to suspect us."
Y/N nodded, closing their eyes for a split second, letting the pulsing beat of the music guide their movements. Denki was actually quite good at dancing, or at least he had a good teacher. After a few songs passed, Y/N nodded towards the bar, and Denki nodded back in reply. Walking over to the bar, the man behind it looked up from his phone and asked, "What can I get you?"
Denki seemed to forget the name of any well known drink, but they were still in school, how were they supposed to know? Should they even be getting alcohol? Y/N was surprised that they weren't being asked for an ID.
"Just give us your signature." Y/N finally replied with a smile.
The barkeep smiled and nodded, grabbing various bottles, "Take a seat at one of our tables, I'll have a waitress get this to you."
Y/N nodded, grabbing a surprised Denki's hand and pulling him over to the corner of the club where small tables and chairs sat near the bar, taking note of the full row of barstools at the bar despite the low amount of people the bouncer let in.
The pair sat down, Y/N looking around curiously.
"What are you thinking?" Denki asked.
"A club where they let people in based on quirks, and don't ask for IDs at the bar?" Y/N stated, "There's no way this isn't a cover up. But the missing people is the question. Where would they be taken?"
"They don't exactly have a place that can't be accessed by everyone coming in. So where-"
Y/N put a finger to Denki's lips, shutting him up as the waitress came forward with the two drinks.
"Sorry for the wait, you wanted the signature drinks right?" The waitress said, placing two fancy glasses on the table and wiping her hands off on her apron, "Can I have a name for the tab?"
"F/N L/N." They quickly stated. They didn't know if someone may recognize Denki's name from the sports festival or other 1A news.
The waitress smiled and nodded, heading back to the bar, almost slipping as she did so. Y/N watched carefully with narrowed eyes as the waitress started to talk to the barkeep for a moment before starting to serve drinks again.
Denki snapped Y/N out of their suspicion, "Hey, um, babe, want to try the drinks?" He asked, nodding to the glasses. It was time for Y/N to use their quirk.
Casually placing a finger in their drink, they stirred it casually all while in their mind, their quirk was at work. They could instantly tell the chemical makeup of everything in the drink, and then, from the same fingertip, they shot out other chemicals to change the drink entirely. There was no poison or drug in this drink, but now the alcohol would have no effect. All that was needed was an electric shock, but how to tell Denki to send some volts into the drink without drawing attention?
Taking their finger out of their drink, they dragged it across their lips, "You have to savor this one babe, it's that good, here-" They leaned forward, dunking their index finger in the drink again and gently caressing Denki's lips with it, "Has a real zing doesn't it."
Denki stared back with wide eyes, and Y/N for a moment thought they would need to be more obvious about telling him to shock the drink, but it seemed that the movement itself surprised Denki enough to set his quirk off without his knowledge. As he started to let off bolts of electricity, still staring off into space, Y/N quickly grabbed his hand and dunked a finger into the drink, the liquid channeling the electricity and causing the chemical reaction Y/N was looking for.
With a sigh of relief, Y/N looked back up at Denki, who was snapping out of his shock.
"You good there?" Y/N asked casually.
Denki gulped, a dorkish smile rising to his face, "Y-yeah. Yeah! I'm great."
Shaking their head, Y/N couldn't help but chuckle a little, but that laugh started to fade when the waitress came back into view in the corner of their eye, seemingly coming their way with a drink tray.
"Hey you two! Another customer sent you some drinks- GAH!"
Suddenly the pair was soaked. The waitress got up from the floor, "Oh my gosh I am so sorry! I'm so clumsy- um, the bathrooms are this way, let me help you out!"
Standing up, Y/N frowned at the giant stain forming on their outfit. Denki quickly nodded to the waitress, "Come on Y/N, let's get cleaned up and then we can dance some more."
Despite hesitation, Y/N followed Denki and the waitress towards the two doors that led to single person bathrooms. Pushing open the door, Y/N went inside, yanking some paper towels off of the dispenser.
However, as their hands ran over the liquid on their outfit, their quirk activated, something they couldn't control. As their brain went through the process of analyzing each part of the liquid, they froze.
This drink, whatever was spilled on them, that's what had the drug inside. Skin to skin contact with it would....
"DENKI! DENKI GET OUT-" Y/N screamed, but it was too late.
The drug took effect, causing Y/N's vision to blur. Despite their immunity to toxins, this drug was too strong.
The last thing they saw was the waitress coming into the bathroom with a smirk.
Then darkness.
- - - - -
In a haze, Y/N hear some voices.
"I'm not sure about this, I mean the blond one is in 1A, he must be packing power-" said a deep voice.
"Well that's not your decision is it? I'm the one who calls the shots here. The fact that he's from 1A makes him a more valuable product." a higher voice shouted back.
Slowly, Y/N began to open their eyes, their blurry vision started to come back, but all they could see was the inside of a burlap sack. As soon as they tried to adjust, they realized their hands were bound. Then, suddenly the sack was ripped away, fluorescent lights burning their newly opened eyes.
"This one just woke up." The bouncer said.
The waitress from before walked over, smiling, "Hello Y/N, good news! That 'drink' won't leave a stain. And more good news! We have a line of buyers for you and your quirk."
Y/N struggled against their restraints, "What the hell are you doing?!"
The waitress laughed, "Oh honey, don't worry. You'll be perfectly happy in your quirk marriage to the highest bidder."
"Quirk marriage?!"
"Don't act so dumb." The waitress's tone changed, "Thanks to my quirk, you'll happily let yourself be taken away by my client. Lots of people are interested in buying you for your quirk actually. I believe the current highest bidder has a mutant quirk, he's made completely of oil I believe? A human oil slick yes. With your quirks combined your child should be able to transform into any liquid! Thanks for giving us that info when you came in by the way."
Suddenly the chair Y/N was attached to started to shake. When their skin hit someone else's, hope was regained.
"DENKI! DENKI WAKE UP!"
Shaking the bag off of his head, Denki shouted, "What's going on?!"
The waitress sighed, "I don't want to explain again. Knock the boy out, I don't have use for him yet."
Y/N frantically looked for something to use their quirk on, but there were no liquids around... except....
"Denki hold your breath!" They shouted.
Closing their eyes as tight as they could, Y/N focused on the sweat covering their body. Any remnants of liquid would do... hopefully. The sweat on their skin slowly started to change, slowly but surely, into sulfuric acid, a chemical toxic to breathe in. The waitress, bartender, and bouncer all started to choke, tears pouring out of their eyes. Focusing specifically on the sweat on their hands, Y/N made the compound even stronger, rubbing their hands against the rope binding them until the ropes corroded away. Able to stand, Y/N went to focus on Kaminari, untying his binds.
The bouncer was trying to use his quirk to escape, despite the effects of the acid. The room had no doors or windows, but seeing the bouncer's quirk in action, he was able to trace circles on walls and cause the walls to disappear in the traced spot. He tried to climb through, but Denki was already on him, tackling him and shooting electricity through him once they touched.
Y/N, slightly more immune to the acid, stayed in the room and used the old ropes to tie up their captors. Once finished, they dragged the villains out through the hole in the wall, following Denki who threw the now unconscious bouncer through the hole.
Able to breathe again, Denki smiled brightly, grabbing Y/N and swinging them around in a hug, "Holy shit that was so cool! Why didn't you tell me you could do that?!"
Y/N laughed, "Because I didn't know!"
"That's new?! That's killer! Literally?" He gently placed Y/N down, looking at the tied up villains, "Will they be okay?"
"Oh they'll be fine with fresh air and water." Y/N replied.
"Great! In that case, let's call Aizawa and tell him the mission is done!"
- - - - -
Police and pro heroes came quickly. The villains were escorted from the hole in the wall of the club made by the bouncer and into cop cars, after being properly handcuffed.
Aizawa and Vlad King tried to keep the reporters away from their students, but not before a few pictures were taken.
Explaining the situation to the pros and the police, the case was labeled solved, and the teachers quickly took their respective students back to the dorms as it was well past curfew.
- - - - -
The next day in the class 1B dorm, everyone was asking about the mission. Y/N was the center of attention in the building. Finally finding a moment of peace in the common room, Y/N slumped into the couch, until a knock rapped on the front door.
Sighing, Y/N stood and walked over, opening the door, only to see a sheepish looking Denki Kaminari.
"Y/N!" He said, looking surprised, "I- uh..." He stumbled over his words, but quickly pulled a newspaper clipping from his pocket, "I found this picture of us in the paper... would you like it?"
Y/N chuckled, "Sure, thanks. Don't try to autograph it though, Monoma will lose it."
Denki laughed a little, "Yeah... um... I also wanted to ask you something?"
A pause.
"Go on." Y/N said, crossing their arms.
Denki sighed, "We were pretty good as a- um- fake couple?"
"Okay?"
"Would... would you like to try it out for real sometime?" Denki asked, rubbing the back of his neck, "I mean like- go on a date or something- god this isn't as smooth as I thought-"
Y/N smiled, "Okay okay, breathe Denki. I get the idea."
Denki raised an eyebrow, "And?"
"Sure, you dork."
Denki pumped a fist in the air, "YES! Nice! Message me- I wrote my number on the back of the photo!" He shouted as he ran off back to his own dorm.
"Oh come on- DORK!" Y/N called after him with a laugh.
THE END
Author's Note:
I'm getting more nerdy by the second, I've begun writing in the dreaded Y/N category.
Well I hope you enjoyed the story, I'm hoping to make in one in a series of y/n oneshots with MHA characters! Comment who you want next!
I'd also like to dedicate this to my beta reader and best friend @Roseandsage, who is basically the only reason I'm still writing fanfiction now lmao
Also if you have the ability to draw or edit, please help me make covers for this series, I can only write no drawing lol
That's all! Until next time!
