Chapter Three

Hyacinth stared maliciously at the small bundle of silvery wisps attempting to flee from his palm. He had not expected that Fate would have struck so soon.

It was a miscalculation on his part. He shouldn't have expected better of Her when she'd already tampered with one life as young as a newborn. This willingness to assume the best of everyone, a flaw of his from his second life that he'd probably never lose.

His gaze hardened at the thought of his second life. Fate didn't deserve any benefit of the doubt after all she had done. Even now placed before his eyes was proof of this, and again in the very body he occupied.

Monster.

A twisted smirk emerged on his face as the wisps made a desperate attempt to escape him, one that truly made the voice seem right. Unfortunately, he had been through far to much for it to have any effect anymore.

Monster. It tried again, this time however he could feel the slight quiver of fear in its voice. A dark chuckle escaped him as he traced the voice, wisps of shadows gathering at his occupied hand. He knew is words would reach Fate's ears in whispers from times long past.

'If I'm a monster, what are you?'

Only she had the gall to dare utter that word before him. The black wisps swarmed the silvery ones devouring them and Hyacinth felt a shiver of bitter delight at the whimpers of Fate's Devotes as they were consumed.

"None can escape Death. Not in my presence, not even you Fate." He spoke with scorn and disdain lacing his voice. He'd like to see how she tried to escape his wrath this time.

A soft whimper broke him from his thoughts. Warmth flooded his being, mixed with the bitterness of sorrow as he laid his gaze upon the sleeping form of his physical older sister.

"Pet.... shhh I'm here." He whispered quiet sweet comforts as he embraced her. Out of the corner of his eyes he saw a silvery wisp escaping deeper into the garden. His brows furrowed.

Fate seemed to be quite insistent in manipulating Petunia's life for the sake of Lily's humility. A bit too insistent even. There seemed to be something they weren't aware of, he'd have to inform them later....

His thoughts paused as he did his best to reign in his anger. Not even minutes after that single wisp had retreated a swarm had once more been formed this one even bigger than the last. Whispering false misleading thoughts was one thing, implanting fake emotions another, but this was something entirely in its own realm.

Erasing a will. After the War it had been the one thing that he could never forgive. He couldn't stand the thought of it. All the other things he'd mentioned could be undone, but once a person's will was erased they were as good as dead if not worse. Like a mindless corpse, something in likeness to the Inferni both in the physical and than later in the spiritual.

In terms of the pain it caused was on different levels as well. For non-magicals nothing would be left of the original not even after physical death and they became the silvery wisps as devout servants of Fate. For magicals however...

Nothing caused as much pain as running into an old friend and ally who still had the same quirk of twirling their wand in hand but no memories or ability to act for themselves. The worst was when he himself would destroy the spiritual wisps and receive the quietest of thank you's and apologies.

The pain of hearing a familiar voice belonging to one he didn't even know had been erased until long after their death. He could never forgive Fate for the suffering and sorrow she had caused both during life and after death.
