Chapter 7
The day of my birthday
I awoke with adrenaline coursing through my body, I was excited yet nervous. It's the day I've been waiting for my whole life. I shoved Charlie off of my legs and ran to the mirror. Nothing had changed while I was asleep, but I knew it would happen soon.
Black misty hands appeared out of thin air, they clawed at my left cheek. I screamed as the their nails tore into my skin, it felt like my face was on fire. I opened my eyes once the pain had mostly dissipated, a black star mark was left below my eye.
Black... I thought to myself, too drowsy still to realize anything yet. The hands swiftly did up my hair in curls and dressed me in dark robes. I felt gloomy as I stared at my reflection in the mirror.
Dark...
Slowly making my way down the stairs, I heard a voice, "Happy birthday Sweetheart!" My eyes widened as I remembered the voice.
"Dad!" I speedily ran down the steps and jumped into his arms. "I missed you so much!"
He hugged me and kissed my forehead. "I missed you too."
"Good morning Darling, happy birthday," my mother's sweet voice chirped from the kitchen.
I let go of my father and walked to the kitchen, following the sweet scent of maple. As I headed to the kitchen, I could feel my father's heavy glare on my back. I ignored it and sat at the dining table. "Good morning mother," I smiled.
My father made a low, quiet growl. "Vyras!" my mother snapped. I knew he was annoyed with having to come home to me, he must've hated me even more after the change.
Mother smiled at me. "Have a good sleep, Pumpkin?" I could tell that she was trying her hardest not to ask about my getup.
I nodded as she handed me a plate of breakfast. "Yes, it was nice."
My father sat across from me at the table and silently judged me as he ate. I turned to my mother. "Mom, can I talk to you alone?"
She nodded with a smile. "Of course, Dear."
"And please stop with the nicknames," I sighed.
She frowned slightly. "Ok, if that's what you want."
I finished eating and glared at my father before turning to my mother and gesturing for her to follow me upstairs. She stood up and wiped her sweaty hands on her apron before walking upstairs to my room with me.
I shut the door behind us and sat on the edge of my bed. "Mom, last week... Some strange things happened..."
She nodded and sat beside me, wrapping her arm around my shoulders. "Yes..." She encouraged me to continue.
I sighed and explained everything to her, Nawe going missing, finding Nawe, Nawe kissing me, the pair of angels, all the events from last week.
She hugged me tightly. "Sounds like you had a rough time, and my guess is that those Dark angels did something, causing you to be like... This..."
I nodded and shed a tear, as it rolled down my cheek it hit my mark and a sharp pain shot through my body. I bit my lip to stop from giving out any hints to my mother that I was in pain.
I took a corner of my sleeve and gently wiped my tears away. "Mom, I'm going to go see my friends, ok?"
She nodded and got up. "Have fun," she said smiling as she left my room, heading back downstairs.
I sighed and changed my clothes, putting a long, hooded cloak onto myself and pulling up the hood to mostly cover my new mark. I quickly checked my appearance the mirror before marching out of the house and heading in the direction of where I was to meet my friends.
As I walked down the street people would wave and smile at me, saying, "Good morning Khass, happy birthday!" Luckily, none of them seemed to notice my mark, causing me to sigh in relief.
Only someone did seem to notice, a man in a big, brown trench coat and matching fedora. He stared at me as if I were from a different world, causing me to stare back at his hidden face. As I passed by him, a saw a trail of white feathers with warm coloured ends. I immediately knew that it was Sirli, one of the few angels in the village. It was strange that he had concealed himself in a large trench coat, but he's strange and no one understands the things he does.
I continued on my way, making sure he didn't follow me, I didn't see him so I guessed that he was off my trail.
I smiled as I walked to the destination and saw Nawe sitting on a bench in the gazebo. He waved me over and I went to sit beside him. "Hey! Saundarya and Mani aren't here yet?" I chirped.
He shook his head. "Nope! Morning Khass! Happy birthday! I got you something."
"Oh, you really didn't have to get me anything," the tips of my ears turned pink as I spoke.
"But I did, I'd always get something for the most amazing and beautiful girl in the whole world." My face flushed and I turned away in embarrassment.
"A-again... You r-really didn't h-have to..."
I felt two strong arms wrap around my waist from behind, making my face turn bright red from his actions. "N-Nawe!" I stuttered. He rested his chin on the top of my head and embraced me tightly as he kissed my cheek.
I started shivering. "N-Nawe... w-what're you d-doing?..." His lips dragged down from my cheek to my lips. My eyes widened and I tried to pull away, but he put his hand behind my neck and kissed me more deeply. I closed my eyes and gave in, kissing back passionately.
There's no way to explain how amazing the kiss was, nothing could compare, it was absolutely perfect.
I shivered again and a moan escaped my lips as he sucked on my lower lip. My face turned an even darker shade of red. "Nawe..." I managed to say quietly.
He pulled away and stared into my eyes, brushing his thumb across my cheek. "Yes Khass?" he said in such a seductive way that I felt as if I was going to melt into nothingness.
"I-I-I..." I looked down, avoiding his eyes.
"You what?" he pressed on.
"I-I don't know what to say..." I said so quietly, it was barely a whisper.
"Just don't say anything." He leaned in and kissed me again, only a peck this time. "Happy birthday Khass," he said again. I then realized that that was his gift to me.
"Maybe you can come over tonight," he said with a smirk and a wink. I gasped and my face turned red.
"That's inappropriate!" I shot up off the bench.
He grabbed my hand and pulled me back down onto his lap. "So what if it is? It's just human nature," he said, putting an emphasis on 'human'.
I looked down. "I don't have those kinds of urges."
He ran a hand up and down, along my side, causing me to shiver. "Are you sure?" he said seductively.
I blushed more and didn't reply. He continued running his hand along my side and took my hand with his other hand, he started kissing the back of it. "Nawe..." I said quietly, still looking down.
"Yes?" He stopped and rested his chin on the crook of my neck.
I turned around in his lap to face him as I realized something. "I really like you..."
He smiled brightly. "And I love you."
