Darren

"Have a seat, Darren. Make yourself comfortable." Said the counselor. "We're gonna be here a while." She added. I sighed, dropped my book bag on the floor, and lowered myself into a chair. "I'm Mrs. Smith. And we've got a lot to talk about." She stated. Great. "Listen, I'm sorry about this morning and I promise nothing like that will ever happen again. I'm not some troubled kid on the verge of becoming a criminal or anything." I said. She smiled. She doesn't believe me. "I looked at your file after your episode this morning, Darren. I know your parents just recently passed away." She said, "And I know it can be hard when a child loses his parents—" she started, and I cut her off. "Please don't do that. Don't give me the generic pity and go by the book on what to say. If you want to talk to me, actually talk to me, or this week is going to miserable for the both of us." I said. She looked stunned for a minute, but then pulled up a chair a few feet in front of me. "Alright, then." She said, "So what happened this morning, Darren?" I didn't have to answer, I mean, if I really didn't want to. I could beat around the bush for an hour and not get anything out of this. But the truth is, I need someone to talk to. Even if it's mandatory, and even if it's for an hour every day for a week. The truth is, I'm pretty messed up. But not messed up enough to do what I did this morning. "I don't know. It's been quiet, but it's been good lately. I couldn't sleep that well last night, and I was starting to feel a little better this morning, but on the bus, I felt different. And I've honestly been trying to figure out what it was that made me feel like..." I paused. "Like I didn't care." I finished. Thank God, I got that off my chest. I think she was surprised at my honesty. Frankly, so was I, but I continued. "Honestly, I didn't feel like myself this morning, like it wasn't me really doing everything." I said. Am I having mood swings? Now Instead of not caring, I sound like a soap opera. But I apparently can't help myself. "I hope Mara isn't mad at me. She's the only one I have right now." I said. Out loud. Okay. What's happening? That is not me talking. Well it is me, but it isn't me! I'd never say that. What's happening? "It's just been hard having to keep secrets from the people I've been living with." I said. Again why?! "I have to go get some water." I squeaked out. Finally, there were some words I meant to say. I'm clearly possessed. But by myself? What the hell? I quickly walked out and went straight to a bathroom across the hall. I went straight to a sink and turned on the water. I washed my hands, and then splashed some water onto my face. I looked at myself in the mirror. My face and hair were both dripping. And my eyes turned red for a second. Completely red, and then faded back down to blue. What the hell is happening to me? I felt better for a split second, and then I started to get anxious. Why were my eyes red? Am I more of a freak than I already thought? Was I really being possessed? Is this the reason why I've been acting weird? I was still looking at myself in the mirror, and I noticed my eyes start to glow a deep blue. It's happening again. What am I? The trash on the floor of the bathroom started floating. Then the trash cans. The sinks started running. The hand dryers all turned on. The mirror in front of me cracked, and I could still see my eyes glowing blue. I had to calm down. I couldn't think about anything I was worried about or anything that has happened or is happening. I closed my eyes, thought of something simple, stood still, and tried to put any worry I had out of my mind. After a few seconds, I heard the trash cans, and all the trash drop to the floor. The sinks and dryers were still running, but through the cracked mirror, I saw that my eyes had stopped glowing. I walked out of the bathroom, and saw the counselor and the principal across the hall, staring at me. I also saw that every locker in the hall had opened, and the trash cans in the hall looked the same as in the bathroom. The Principal gestured for me to come over, so, I did. "What in the hell just happened?" He asked me. I'm back in total control now. I'm completely me, and I didn't say anything. Truthfully, I didn't have a real explanation as to what just happened. He kept looking at me. I knew he didn't see everything, but he saw enough.
