People are not hurricanes. They are not mysteries. They are not tornadoes or oceans or skies or galaxies. They are no terribly beautiful or horrific things. They are not natural disasters, they are not gods or goddesses.
People are flesh and blood. People eat, people sleep, people cry, people bleed. People do embarrassing things, atrocious things, kind and pure things--but no matter what, people aren't special.
We slander and glorify humanity. We put faith where it doesn't belong, and take it away and blame the faithless. We act like people shouldn't just be people, that they should always be more. We act like that's wrong, too.
We are unsatisfied. We have no one to blame but ourselves sometimes.
People are not works of art, they are not songs, they are not poems, they are not films. They are great pieces of literature or stunning sculptures. People are people.
And if we ever expect a person to be more than a person, we'll be sorely disappointed.
