Beyond The Gate

I stood before a big rusty gate eyeing it nervously. I looked back at the old rugged town in which I had spent my entire life not daring to think of escaping my poor existence threw this rusty gate. It was bound in chains like a prisoner of the miserable town its colossal spikes even keeping the birds from flying beyond boundary. Augustus nodded to Grisha who preformed an extraordinary feat, my first experience of abnormality. He took a deep breath exhaling slowly, looking at the gate he smiled and lifted his hands as if lifting a great weight. Then suddenly the locks began to shudder Grisha clenched his fists tightly and abruptly the locks disappeared, slowly Grisha let ash poor from his shaking hands.

"Outstanding my friend." Applauded Augustus. Grisha raised his hands again and the gate creaked open. They all walked threw it casually but I hesitated, walking threw that gate would declare disloyalty to the government, and if I was caught I would pay dearly. However if i didn't follow them threw the gate I would have no chance of escaping a life even more miserable then it already was. I took a deep breath and stepped threw the gate into the new world. The land beyond was much different from the one inside the great grey walls, it was one filled with flourishing plants of bright colors, I had never seen anything so exotic.

"Miss Larksburrow there is simply no time to stop and sniff the flowers time is precious." Said Augustus hastily, I had to run to keep up.

The sun was setting behind the distant mountains leaving a string of purples and yellows along the ridge.

" I'm beat," said Billy wearily, "shouldn't we find some place to set up camp?" Augustus looked to the sky where the first stars were beginning to twinkle.

"I suppose your right. Let's settle here." Said Augustus pointing to a clearing amount the colorful plants. Billy snapped with his fingers and a couple of woodland materials came to form two tents. I smiled in wonder, sights such as these amazed me as they would anyone oblivious to abnormality's wonders. I climbed into one of the tents stretching my arms  and yawning I hadn't realized how tired I was until then and it did not take long for me to drift into a deep slumber. I had curious dream one unlike others I had had, it was so vivid, so real.

I was standing outside a shack that was by a still lake, it groaned and creaked under the whistling wind. A girl not much older then nine walked out from the open door her face stained with tears she looked at me pleadingly. She was  pale, ill and unhealthily thin as if she hadn't eaten as much as a piece of bread in weeks.

"Do not help us." She said in rasping voice "Do not help us." She broke into series of sobs as she made her way back into the shack in which an arm emerged and pulled her back in. I awoke my heart in my throat, perspiration upon my forehead. I heard a fire crackling and the sound of sizzling sausages. A beautiful aroma filled my nostrils and I let my nose lead me from the tent. The sun had just barely risen yet everyone was fresh and awake staring hungrily at the pan of sausages. My stomach growled as if announcing my presence. I blushed as everyone turned to see where the rumble had come from. I sat upon of the logs as Billy served the delicious breakfast.

"Any dreams?" Asked Grisha looking at me curiously, I was breath taken how did he know.

                                      "Actually yes, an odd one."

"Continue." Said Grisha winking. I smiled though the thought of that dream gave me shivers. I told them of the shack and the weeping girl, they exchanged glances.

                                         "What?" I asked.

"You said your dream was unusually vivid so real." Said Augustus matter of factly.

                                            "So?"

"There are... I hesitate to use the word 'versions' of the abnormal race that  are you could say going extinct, some like to call them the incredible threats, but abnormal people prefer the term 'dream heralds' people who can contact one and other threw dreams regardless of their location in the universe. Haven I think you have been contacted."
