CHAPTER NINE
THE KISS

"I told you, I'm fine." Asami sighs into the phone, finishing up her essay about bullying and anti-social behavior that Miss Wada is going to force her to read to the class. She secretly prays it takes other people too long to read theirs so she can go next class. She is truly not in the mood to present a paper she is not putting her 100% into because she is unable to focus. Her mind keeps drifting off to what had occurred at the school. Every time she closes her eyes, she sees Maru looming over her.

"Fine?" Hikari screeches in the phone. "You were nearly killed and we had to find out by the news!"

"That girl just screams crazy." Kaori chimes in. "I can see it in her psychotic eyes in her mug shot."

"Yeah, she is extremely crazy. You should see how crazy she looks when she's holding a knife." Asami jokes. Silence on the other end. "Why does no one laugh at my jokes? Does no one appreciate dark humor anymore?"

"It's not funny when it has happened," Kazuki says, a tone of defeat in his voice.

"Well I think it's funny so laugh with me." Asami snaps. She is sick of people not going along with her coping mechanism. How is she suppose to feel better about a situation when she cannot even laugh at it?

"You really need to start focusing more on your safety. You got lucky with Maru because other people were there. What would have happened if you were alone? Or worse, if it was Emica in Maru's place?" Kazuki asks. Asami's hand freezes in its writing position. She stares absentmindedly at her writing, imagining the different scenarios Kazuki has painted. What would she have done? Maru would've successfully stabbed her if Haruhi didn't tackle the crazy girl in time. And if it was Emica? Asami most likely wouldn't be in her room in the mansion with her father and brother right now. She'll probably be on a plane or a boat heading to a new country. She'll never would've seen Tamaki or her friends again. "Do you understand the severity of these situations now?"

"But it wasn't Emica. It was a crazy stalker who was in love with Tamaki." She comments. "I fought Maru off pretty well on my own when Haruhi left to go get help. I'm sure I could've swiped her knees out from under her, but Haruhi tackled her before I could."

"Because unlike you, Haruhi cares about your safety." Kazuki snaps. "Goodnight, Asami." He hangs up. Silence fills the phone for a few moments. Asami's hand tightens on her phone as she tries to not let her anger overcome her.

"He's a bit dramatic tonight, isn't he?" Kaori laughs before yelping in pain.

"No, he isn't! Asami, he's right. This could've been so much worse. We love you and we care for your safety. It hurts us to know that you were in a dangerous situation and didn't even feel the need to tell us about it. How can you call us your friends when you won't even rely on us?" Hikari grumbles.

"I do rely on you!" Asami shoots up from her bed in a blaze of anger. Her entire being feel hot. Why is this such a big deal? Sure, someone almost stabbed her, but they didn't. She's fine, why can't they accept that answer? Tears swell in her eyes while she tries to force them to go away, blink rapidly as she stares up at the ceiling light in her room. How can she act like everything is okay when no one is willing to go along with it?

"When have you relied on us?" Hikari asks.

"When I found out Emica was my kidnapped and not my mother." Asami states. "I confided in you three about how I felt about everything. You guys made sure I was good mentally and even made jokes with me about the situation to make me feel better about it. Why can't we do that with this situation?"

"Because you could've died!" Hikari yells. "You could've died." She repeats in a softer voice. Kaori stays silent during all of this. Asami assumes she must agree with Asami and doesn't want to start a fight with Hikari over this—or maybe she feels the same as Hikari and is letting her do all the talking.

"Emica could've killed me too at any moment in my life." Asami points out. "Why wasn't that a factor in how we handled that situation?"

"I don't know, it's just different." Hikari sighs. "Goodnight, Asami. Maybe a good rest will make you realize that we just want to be there for you, but you can't let yourself be too vulnerable with us." Asami grinds her teeth when the phone hang up sound echoes in her ear. She scoffs, throwing her phone against her wall and lets out a scream of frustration. She's lucky Tamaki is busy doing things at the main mansion tonight or else he would be barging in her room at the moment. She flops down onto her bed and closes her eyes.

Maybe they are right. Maybe she does need to start being more vulnerable with others. Maybe she does need to stop turning traumatic events into jokes to cope with them. But how are they suppose to stop worrying over her if she cannot show them that she is okay?

•••

Asami nervously counts the people ahead of her, trying to calculate how long each person will take. She prays to whatever god or gods there are to have mercy on her. She has endured a lot and she truly does not want to present today. She simply wishes to have a relaxing day without the possibility of making a fool out of her self in front of her classmates when she cannot even read or write her paper without imagining Maru standing in the dark shadows of her room. The bell rings and Miss Wada strolls in. "I hope everyone is prepared to present because I will be randomly choosing who goes." Asami freezes at those words and curses the fact that she did not stay home today when her father offered. A nudge comes from her left and she turns to see Kaoru worriedly gazing at her.

"Did you not finish your paper? Why do you look stressed?" He asks in a whisper.

She shakes her head at him and mumbles quietly, "it's not that." He furrows his eyebrows and exchanges a look with Hikaru, who is now noticing that something is wrong as well.

"Mr. Hikaru Hitachiin, you are first." Miss Wada calls out. Hikaru groans before heading to the front of the room with his paper.

"The Japanese economy has been a subject of international interest due to its unique historical, cultural, and economic characteristics," Hikaru begins his paper. Asami tunes most of it out, picking at the skin on her fingers. She watches as student after student goes up to read their paper. She observes how most of them are confidently smiling and even making gestures to go along with their words. They even make direct eye contact with the class the entire time. The other students who are staring at their papers, avoiding looking at the class, and are clearly showing signs of stress represent how Asami is feeling.

"Global warming poses significant challenges to the planet and its inhabitants. However, by understanding the causes and impacts of global warming and implementing effective mitigation strategies, we can work towards a sustainable and resilient future. The transition to a low-carbon economy, supported by international cooperation, technological advancements, and policy interventions, is essential for mitigating the effects of global warming and preserving a habitable planet for future generations." Kimura finishes her paper with a bright smile on her face. Asami envies her, how does the girl not show any signs of being anxious?

"Beautiful work, Miss Kimura. Please place your paper in the bin so I may look over your citations. It was fairly interesting to learn about the various problems that cause global warming and how we can mitigate the situation. Does anyone have any questions for her?" Jun turns to the class, basically daring someone to say something. "Mr. Hitoshi." She calls on the male.

"Can you elaborate on the carbon capture technology that you touch upon in your paper? That sounds quite interesting to me and I would like to know more." He asks, sitting back in his seat with a smug smirk.

"Well carbon capture is a process designed to capture carbon dioxide emissions from various sources, such as power plants, industrial facilities, and other large-scale emitters. The captured CO2 is then transported and stored in underground geological formations or utilized for other purposes, preventing it from entering the atmosphere and contributing to global warming. There are three steps in the process; however, I cannot recall exactly what each one is." Kimura's face is flushed red now from not being able to completely answer a question. Everyone winces as Jun writes something in her notebook. They know that she is most likely taking away points for not knowing the steps. Asami silently wonders why Kimura even admitted that instead of just omitting the fact that there are three steps. Jun gestures for her to sit which she does.

"Miss Souh, you'll be our last one today." Last? That is even worst. Now everyone is going to remember her presentation clearly. Her presentation cannot be muddled with the middle presentations. Hers will stand out in their minds with Hikaru's since he went first. She grabs her paper, slowly walking to the front of the room.

Asami clears her throat and begins to read her paper, "Everyone wishes to be accepted by their peers. It is a basic human need to belong somewhere. They try to act, dress, or speak in certain ways to receive the approval of others. Unfortunately, there are always people who are too different from the main peer group thus they endure bullying. Bullying refers to unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance," she glances up to see some of her classmates yawning and not focusing on her which she would rather deal with compared to the other people who are merely staring at her with their undivided attentions.

"For example, a child may push another child that they deem lower than them or they may try to bully a teacher into giving them a good grade on an assignment. There are four main types of bullying: verbal, social, physical, and cyber. Verbal bullying refers to words or writing being used to say mean things, tease, name call, taunt, threaten, or make inappropriate sexual comments. A child may write, 'Selena is stinky,' in her notebook or verbally call her 'Stinky Selena' whenever they run into one another. Social bullying, which is also known as relational bullying, involves spreading rumors, purposely excluding someone from a group, or purposely embarrassing someone. Selena may be picked last during kickball games or blatantly ignored whenever she tries to join the group playing. A child may spread a rumor that Selena does not bathe. While playing, one child may even try to trip her to embarrass her. Physical bullying occurs when a person's body or possessions is harmed. Selena owns a beautiful stuffed animal. A child may take that bunny and cut it up to hurt her. A child may push and punch Selena." Images of Maru appear once more. Her crazed eyes as she holds that knife above her head. Her hysterical laughter as she tried to hurt Asami. She sucks in a deep breath to calm herself when she notices her hands beginning to shake. She glances up in worry that other people may have noticed what is happening and locks eyes with Kaoru. Kaoru is smiling at her and mouths, 'you're doing great, take as many breaths as you need.' She slightly nods her head at him and takes his advice. She takes a few more second to recover before continuing her presentation.

"Cyberbullying is relatively new considering it emerged with the rise in technology. It involves sending mean messages, creating fake profiles, and posting embarrassing pictures, videos, or rumors on social media apps such as Instagram or Snapchat. Selena may receive mean messages from other children in her Instagram direct messages. Someone may make a fake profile pretending to be Selena and they post horrible things concerning her. These are all the forms of bullying a child may endure from their peers."

"Bullying has various effects on the victims. Victims often endure fear, anxiety, and stress, which can lead to long-lasting psychological trauma. They may suffer from low self-esteem, self-doubt, and a sense of powerlessness. Constant humiliation and degradation erode the victim's confidence, leaving them feeling isolated and lonely. The emotional toll of bullying can manifest in various ways, including depression, suicidal ideation, and even self-harm. It is crucial to recognize the devastating impact of bullying on emotional well-being to provide appropriate support and interventions. Victims of bullying are more prone to developing anxiety disorders, such as generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety disorder. They may also experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder due to the trauma inflicted by bullying. The persistent exposure to bullying can disrupt normal cognitive and emotional development, leading to difficulties in concentration, learning, and overall academic performance."

"Bullying not only affects individuals personally but also has a significant impact on their social lives. Victims often experience social exclusion and face challenges in forming and maintaining friendships. The fear of being targeted hinders their ability to trust others, making it difficult to establish meaningful relationships. Additionally, bullying can lead to a loss of social standing and reputation, further isolating the victim from their peers. The social impact of bullying extends beyond the victim as witnesses may also experience feelings of guilt, powerlessness, and fear of becoming targets themselves. The effects of childhood bullying can even extend into adulthood, impacting various aspects of an individual's life. Research suggests that individuals who have experienced bullying are at a higher risk of developing long-term physical health issues, such as chronic pain, cardiovascular problems, and gastrointestinal disorders. The impact on mental health can persist, leading to an increased likelihood of developing anxiety disorders, depression, and substance abuse problems. Furthermore, victims of bullying may carry the emotional scars into their professional lives, experiencing difficulties in establishing careers and achieving their full potential." She looks up to see Kaoru giving her a thumbs up while Hikaru seems to be sleeping with his head down on his desk and arms covering his head. She looks over a bit to see Haruhi taking notes on her essay which makes her feel more confident in her information.

"Many studies link antisocial behaviors, which encompass a range of actions and attitudes that disregard the rights and well-being of others, and bullying together. One of the key components of antisocial behaviors is the absence of empathy, the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. Individuals who lack empathy often struggle to recognize and consider the impact of their actions on others, making them more prone to engage in bullying behaviors. Without empathy, they may not grasp the emotional consequences of their actions, leading to a disregard for the well-being of their victims. Antisocial individuals often exhibit deficient social skills, such as poor communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution abilities. These deficits can hinder their ability to navigate social situations effectively and constructively. Consequently, they may resort to aggressive behaviors as a means of asserting power and control over others, resulting in bullying."

"The lack of appropriate social skills prevents them from resolving conflicts peacefully and may exacerbate their tendencies towards antisocial behaviors. Impulsivity and aggression are common traits associated with antisocial behaviors and are also closely linked to bullying. Individuals who exhibit impulsive tendencies may act without considering the consequences of their actions, leading to impulsive acts of aggression. This impulsivity, combined with a propensity for aggression, can manifest in bullying behaviors. Such individuals may act out physically, verbally, or through cyber means, inflicting harm on their victims to satisfy their immediate desires for power or control. Antisocial behaviors and bullying can be perpetuated and reinforced within peer groups. In certain social circles where antisocial behaviors are accepted or even encouraged, individuals may feel compelled to engage in bullying to conform or gain social status. Peer influence plays a significant role in shaping behavior, and the desire for acceptance can override moral considerations, leading to the adoption of antisocial and bullying behaviors." Asami makes it a point to look at a few girls in her classes that have written rude comments about her on the Host Club's instagram page. The girls quickly look away with light blushes on their cheeks from being called out.

"There are ways to prevent bullying from occurring. Schools play a vital role in preventing bullying. Implementing comprehensive, evidence-based programs that focus on raising awareness, teaching empathy, and promoting positive social interactions can foster a culture of respect. These programs can include regular anti-bullying workshops, classroom discussions, and awareness campaigns. Given the increasing prevalence of cyberbullying, it is essential to educate students, parents, and educators about online safety, responsible digital citizenship, and the potential consequences of cyberbullying. Providing guidance on privacy settings, online etiquette, and responsible internet use can help prevent and address instances of cyberbullying. Fostering positive relationships among students, employees, and community members can create a supportive environment that discourages bullying. Encouraging team-building activities, mentoring programs, and peer support initiatives can strengthen connections, reduce isolation, and create a sense of belonging."

"Bystanders play a crucial role in preventing bullying. Training programs that empower individuals to intervene safely and effectively can deter bullies and support victims. Teaching bystanders to recognize warning signs, safely intervene, and report incidents can help create a collective responsibility for addressing bullying. Engaging parents and guardians in prevention efforts can significantly impact the effectiveness of anti-bullying initiatives. Hosting parent workshops, providing resources, and fostering open communication channels can promote a unified approach to addressing bullying." Asami finishes her paper and gazes at her teacher. Miss Wada has a smile on her face as she claps.

"Beautiful work, Miss Souh. Please place your paper in the bin so I may look over your citations. You did a splendid job addressing your topic and explaining the various components that coincide with it. I feel truly educated about the types of bullying, what causes it and how it can be prevented. Does anyone have any questions for her?" Jun turns to the class, eyeing the group of students who are clearly sleeping with a disgruntled look in her eye. "Mr. Hitoshi," Asami feels her heart drop into her stomach. Hitoshi has asked questions that no one fully knew the answers to and caused them all to lose points.

"Why did you choose the name Selena for the girl in your examples?" He seems genuinely confused on that.

"To be frank, I was listening to Selena Pérez's music while writing my paper so her name was already in my mind which is why I wrote it down." She replies, relieved that it was a silly question and not like the other questions he asked. Jun gestures for her to sit and she practically rushes to her desk, slamming into her seat.

"Good job today presenters! I really enjoyed listening to your essays. I'll be finishing up grades so you may talk for the rest of the period." Jun tells them. Asami leans back in her seat and sees the twins spin around to face her.

"I liked your topic," Kaoru informs her with a smile. "It was very informative."

"Thank you." She returns the smile. "I look forward to hearing your essay next class." Kaoru goes to say something when he gets cut off.

"Did you like mine?" Hikaru leans over, getting in her face. "Learning about the economy was such a bore."

"Why did you chose it as your topic then?" She asks.

"Kaoru and I will be taking over our mother's fashion business one day. I need to familiarize myself with the economy to ensure that our business does not go bankrupt." He answers with a yawn. She eyes him and observes the resentful gleam in his eyes as he talks about his mother. Did the twins not get along with her? He even said mother with a tone of contempt. The bell rings signaling time for lunch and the trio get up to leave. She bites her lip, trying to decide if she should address them about it or ignore it. She decides to not bring it up. If the twins wanted to talk about it, they would. She'll let them decide on their own time when they're ready to vent.

•••

"Why am I being forced to wear this?" Asami asks, glaring at the outfit in the twins' hands. Tamaki decided that since it's early spring and still pretty chilly outside, that the host club should have a tropical theme and make it hot in the club room. Every host is wearing a ridiculous summer outfit. They each have on long skirts, and necklaces while Takashi and the twins also have on bandannas. Tamaki has a one-shoulder dress on that shows off most of his chest and the twins have a similar one for Asami—expect hers is just off the shoulder and her chest is completely covered.

"My darling sister," Tamaki spins her around with a bright smile, "I want you looking as beautiful as I do which is why I made sure we would match!" He rubs his cheek against hers. "We missed out on so many years of matching family outfits. I have to make up for it!" She stares at him in horror at the words, 'matching family outfits.' If they were the same gender, she may be open to the idea, but she finds it weird when siblings wear matching outfits once they are above toddler years.

"I love you, but no." She pats his shoulder with a her lips pulled into a thin line. "Matching outfits are for sisters and for people under the age of 5 and neither of those apply to us. I will wear matching outfits with you during host club hours and that is it. I will not do this in public." He sulks in the corner, dark lines covering his body as he slurps down a cup of ramen. She sighs at his behavior before grabbing the outfit of the twins and heading to the changing curtains. She changes into her tropical themed outfit. She walks out, straightening out the skirt of her dress and glances up to see the Takashi and Mitsukuni staring at her.

"Ami-chan, you look so cute!" Mitsukuni tugs on her hand and smiles up at her. "Doesn't she look cute, Takashi?" She blinks and her cheeks become a bit pink when she locks eyes with Takashi.

"Yes, she does." He softly says. Suddenly, they all get into position as the door opens.

"Welcome!" They all shout only to see Haruhi stumbling in. They all deadpan at her lateness expect for Tamaki and Mitsukuni. Mitskunini waves happily at the girl.

"Oh it's you, Haruhi. We thought it was a guest so we positioned ourselves. You're so late." The twins say, crossing their arms in annoyance. Haruhi looks around in confusion at their outfits and at all the tropical themed objects.

"I could be wrong, but my calendar still says it's early spring." She says, pulling out a calendar and double checking the date.

"Huddling under a kotatsu table, fearing the cold is only a commoners' feeling! Why else do we have this perfect air conditioning system?" Tamaki dramatically raises from his spot and reaches his arms out. Kyoya keeps his eyes closed as he holds up his small notebook and waves it back and forth to get Haruhi's attention.

"Do you have a problem with the way we run our club, Haruhi? Be careful what you say. You owe us 8 million yen." He opens his eyes and looks over at Haruhi. "Remember?"

"She's still coming to the club so obviously she remembers." Asami scolds him. "It's not nice to threaten people, be nicer."

"A good man cannot hide his beautiful body by wearing bulky clothing. It may be chilly in early spring out there in the real world, but here at the club we want to surprise our chilly little kittens with a warm southern country aura!" Tamaki forces Haruhi to stand at his side as he does his little speech. "Oh yes, we've turned this place into nirvana! A balmy tropical island of everlasting summer! It is the gentlemanly way!"

"That's funny. Cause I feel a massive chill now." Haruhi says. Asami fake shivers and huddles close to Haruhi.

"I feel it too. We should huddle close together like penguins to keep warm." She mumbles, a playful smile on her face. Tamaki's eyes twitch before he grabs his sister and drags her away from Haruhi. Guests begin to come in and everyone rushes to their positions.

"What heartlessness, even with my lustrous skin shining like brilliant ivory exposed by my Balinese King outfit. I'm no more than a slave before my goddess. I kneel before you and swear my loyalty." Tamaki says to his one guest, gently grabbing her cheeks and leaning in inches from her lips.

"Tamaki..." the girl with his main attention swoons.

"Lucky.." the other girl grumbles.

"Oh, yes. I almost forgot to mention to you ladies. Next week, the Ouran Host club is sponsoring a party." Tamaki informs them.

"We're throwing a party?" Haruhi asks while looking over her shoulder at him. She directs her gaze into Asami who merely shrugs in response.

"What kind of party is it going to be? Is it going to be formal?" A girl sitting with the twins asks.

"Yes, in fact, we've rented the entire large hall in the central campus." Hikaru answers.

"So there will be a dance and we're thinking of having some casinos." Kaoru adds on. Hikaru gently cups Kaoru's face as he looks down at him.

"Actually, I wanted to spend some alone time with you, Kaoru." He seductively says.

"Don't say that, Hikaru! I wanted it too!" Kaoru blushes and widens his eyes, making him look more submissive than usual. Their guests squeal, blushing brightly at the sight of brotherly love. Haruhi makes her way over to Kyoya and Asami who are going over accounting issues for the club.

"Guests seem to be even more worked up than they usually are." She tells them.

"I can see why," Asami jokes and winks at the twins who were looking at her at the time. "Look how handsome everyone looks in their outfits."

"Being slightly naked proves popular with the ladies." Kyoya agrees.

"So, are you the one who came up with this tropical paradise idea?" Haruhi asks him.

"I have no decision-making authority." Asami snorts at that notion. Everyone knows who is truly behind everything. "All of the club policies have been laid out by the club's King, Tamaki. But," he pushes his glasses back against his face with his middle finger, "I guess there's no harm in admitting to casually slipping a Bali photo book onto his desk."

"So it's your fault I'm wearing this outfit," Asami huffs. "Why isn't Haruhi wearing a tropical outfit?"

"Because we are hiding her gender from everyone and if she wore something similar to your outfit and didn't match ours, that may raise questions." Kyoya replies.

"I hate it when you have reasonable answers." She grumbles. "Why couldn't you put a Scandinavia photo book on his desk? We could've easily done a cool Viking theme." She gasps and grabs his arm in excitement, shaking it. He blinks in surprise at the action. "Slip him a book about renaissance festivals! I've seen so many pictures about it on Instagram. They're huge in America. I would love to dress up as a fawn fae queen."

"Can you elaborate on what those things are?" He asks and adjusts them so he can still write in his notebook while she clings to his arm.

"So Americans have these renaissance festivals that are centered around Europe's 15-16th century. They wear outfits, they eat food and do activities focused on that era. A lot of people also incorporate fantasy aspects to it by dressing up as fae creatures. This one girl had fawn ears on and she was dressed as a forest queen. It was so cute!" She gushes, eyes brightening at the thought of copying that outfit. Kyoya watches her expressions of happiness and realizes that she does not emote like this frequently—only when she's truly feeling large amount of that emotion.

"You could simply ask him if we can do that theme yourself. He'll say yes to you." He informs her.

"Yeah, but I don't want to feel like I'm forcing him to do the theme. What if he doesn't actually like it but goes along for my sake? Just slip him a book about it please so he thinks it's his idea." She gazes up at him with a pleading gleam in her eyes.

"I will." He promises.

"Thank you, you're so nice when you want to be." She says.

"Ami-Chan!" Asami is suddenly tugged away from Kyoya by Mitsukuni. "Look! These are Bali's national flower, we imported it!" He shows her multiple Balinese leis and puts one around her neck. "Takashi!" He rushes over to Takashi and climbs the side of him. He throws a Balinese lei over his head. "There! We all match!" He giggles, getting off Takashi and dragging him over to stand beside Asami. "We're like a family!" He grins cutely, standing in between Asami and Takashi while holding their hands—making the two look like his parents thus causing the guests to squeal. Asami sighs because she doesn't like when the hosts drag her into their characters. She understands it appeals to the customers to see Mitsukuni act like a child and Takashi acts like his protective parent, but she wishes she wasn't associated as his mother. It makes her feel a bit weird. She narrows her eyes at the small bundle of blonde joy as he decorates Usa-Chan. Could Mitsukuni have a mommy kink? Asami freezes and her face flushes once it registers in her head what she just thought of. She brings her hands to her face and covers them, closing her eyes in embarrassment because now she is having some very inappropriate images of Mitsukuni flashing in her head.

"Are you okay?" She opens her eyes to see Takashi watching her.

"I'm fine!" She squeaks and rushes away, stumbling upon Haruhi's table.

"Excuse me. I hate to disturb, but I think it's time for the hosts to switch clients." One of the guests says to Haruhi.

"Oh, I'm sorry. You must be my next appointment, Miss... uh..." Haruhi pauses.

"My name is Kasugazaki Kanako from Grade 11 Class B." Kanako places her hand underneath Haruhi's chin. "You're even cuter than I heard. I've decided. I'll let you be my favorite, Haruhi." Asami watches her brother gape at the duo after hearing those words. She rolls her eyes and sighs because she knows he's going to be sulking as soon as the guests leave.

•••

She was right. The host club sit at a large table together as they watch Tamaki sit at a smaller table while eating more ramen and sulking. "I don't understand." He mumbles to himself.

"Hey boss! Stop eating peasant food and help us make the final plans!" Hikaru shouts.

"Does it really bother you that princess Kazugazaki has taken a liking to Haruhi?" Kaoru asks.

"He shouldn't be surprised. It's not like her illness just started." Kyoya comments, typing plans for the party in his computer. Asami is sitting next to him and double checking the numbers to ensure they stay within budget.

"What illness?" Haruhi asks.

"Usually regular guests stick to one host forever," Hikaru says and stands behind Asami, leaning on her chair.

"But she likes to change her favorite every now and then." Kaoru slides in next to Hikaru. "It was Tamaki's turn a while ago."

"I see...all because I took his guest." Haruhi realizes. Tamaki flashes over to their table and slams his hands on it.

"No, that's not it! I cannot stand it anymore, Haruhi!" Tamaki points at her. "Wear proper girls' clothing!" He holds his hands with both of his hands and shakes his head. "I don't understand how you could be so popular with the ladies when you yourself are a lady!" He holds a fist near his chest. "No one in the entire school knows the truth except for those of us here!"

"Yeah, she opted out of taking gym classes." Hikaru informs them.

"And the students' ID numbers are all mixed together so no one can tell." Kaoru points out. Tamaki drags a trunk to the center of the room. He aggressively opens it up and digs through it

"Oh lord," Asami sighs at the sight. "What do you think he keeps in his creepy trunk?"

"Nothing good." The twins respond.

"That's enough, Haruhi! Now you listen to Daddy!" Tamaki shoves a portrait of Haruhi with long hair in Haruhi's face. "Daddy wants you to go back to the way you were be-"

Haruhi Fujioka: "Don't go enlarging my photos without asking me first!!" Tamaki cries while Haruhi says this and places her portrait on a wall with the hosts standing around it.

"This is so creepy." Asami mumbles. "Do you think he has portraits of us in there too?"

"The more I look at this picture, the more amazed I am. How could this possibly become that?" Hikaru looks between the portrait and Haruhi. He winces when Asami hits his arm.

"Why do all of you have to be so rude all the time? Haruhi likes her current self and you should respect that." She scolds.

"The day before school started, one of the kids in my neighborhood got some gum in my hair." Haruhi places a hand behind her head. "It's a real pain to get gum out of long hair. So I decided to cut it all off. I didn't care if I looked like a dude, you know."

"Girls should never refer to themselves as a dude! MAMA!" Tamaki cries to Kyoya. "Haruhi is using those dirty boy words again!" He falls onto his knees with tears still streaming down his face.

"Dude, sorry. But who is mama?" Kaoru asks and turns his head to Kyoya.

"Based on club position, I assume it's me." Kyoya states. Asami snorts and whispers, "mommy," under her breath.

"Look, I don't see what you're crying about. Working as a host, I can pay back more of my debt. It'll never happen if I'm just an errand boy." Haruhi says with her hands on her hips and an annoyed expression crossing her face.

"Hate to change the subject, but do you have formal dance experience? You'll need it for the party." Hikaru asks her.

"Uh... no... But the party doesn't have anything to do with my quota, right? I'm not interested in going to events. So, if I could be excused?" Haruhi questions.

"Absolutely not!" Tamaki shouts, placing a hand underneath his chin. "Social dance is a gentleman's common knowledge. If you want to live the life of a host that badly, you're going to have to show us how far you're willing to go, Haruhi." Tamaki holds his arms out elegantly. "If you can master the waltz in one week and show it off in the party, I'll reduce your debt by half or," He aggressively points at Haruhi, "I'll tell the whole school that you're a girl and knock of you back down to errand boy!"

Gentleman's Knowledge Part One: dance basics are the steps.

During the week, Haruhi attempts to master the waltz. She dances with Kanako and Asami. Asami learned how to do the dances during her etiquette school because it is a requirement for a young lady to do so. At the moment, it's Kanako turn with her.

"Quick, quick, slow. Quick, quick, slow. Good work, Haruhi. Now, on the slow, you should bring your feet together. Remember, the gentleman always leads, and please look at your partner closely." Kanako says while showing Haruhi the steps.

"Got it!" Haruhi suddenly falls on top of Kanako. An embarrassed blush crosses her face. "I'm so sorry, Miss Kasugazaki!"

Kanako reaches up and holds Haruhi's face before pulling her towards her own face. "It is okay, Haruhi." Asami stands with the twins as they observe Tamaki sulking, but this time, he's posing as a model against the wall as he does.

"King's acting blue." The twins says.

"I bet it's because he wanted to be the one Haruhi practices with." Hikari says.

"I think you may be right, but he's way too tall to stand in as a woman." Kaoru states.

"He might let his hands roam too if he was with Haruhi." Asami throws her brother a glare. A tap on her arm catches her attention.

"Can you help me make some more tea? The guests seem to like it best when you make it." Haruhi asks.

"Of course, I'll bring it over once it's done." Asami nods her head and heads off to the kitchen to make a new batch of tea. She heads over to Haruhi and Kanako, placing the green teacup in front of the guest.

"Thank you so much for allowing me to practice with you. I really appreciate it." Haruhi says to her. "Thank you for the tea," she says to Asami.

"Oh, no problem. I heard that you're not seeing any customers today so that you could practice dancing. I'm glad I got to spend this time alone with you." Kanako grins. "Oh my. This is a new tea set, isn't it? It's Ginori." Kanako picks up her teacup gently. Asami tilts her head, curious about the mixture of emotions in Kanako's eyes. She seems sad but happy at the same time.

"You have a keen eye, Mademoiselle. In fact, we just received them yesterday. We decided it was about time for the club to upgrade its tea sets." Kyoya informs her.

"I see. What a pretty color. Lovely." She comments softly.

"You must be into tableware, huh?" Haruhi asks. Asami shakes her head at that.

"Not really, I mean no of course I'm not! Whatever would give you that idea?" Kanako freaks, slamming her teacup on the table. The hot tea gets on her hand. "Ow!"

"Let me take you to the nurse's office." Asami steps in and helps Kanako raise from the table. "She'll need to treat the burn quickly so it doesn't blister." Haruhi joins them. "Doctor," they open the door and pause when they see a student rather than the nurse.

"The doctors not in. What is it? A burn?" He sees Kanako and gets a very worried look on his face. "Let me see," he walks over to her quickly.

"No thank you," Kanako clings onto Haruhi, "I'll ask Haruhi to take care of it."

"If there's an assistant nurse, then..." Haruhi looks at the male.

"Haruhi, he's a student." Asami sighs. Sometimes she wonders about the girl.

"My dear, Haruhi." Kanako laughs. "But it can't be helped. He doesn't look like the heir of a first-rate corporation." Asami furrows her eyebrows. They clearly know each other and so ting is going on between them. "Anyway, why are you here? Can it be you saw us coming so you stayed?"

"No, in greeting the teachers. I need to finish this within this semester. Since the teachers not here, I'll come back later. See you," he heads out the door.

"Your friend?" Haruhi asks Kanako.

"No! I don't know him! Oh my, what are you saying, Haruhi?" Kanako freaks out once more goes to leave the room. The door slams open and Takashi appears with Mitsukuni.

"An injury," Takashi says. Kanako takes this chance to rush out of the room. Takashi places him on the cot and Asami looks over him.

"Aw you have a scratch, let me find you a bandaid." Asami starts looking through the nurse's drawers. She pauses when she stumbles upon some plan b pills and condoms. Her face flushed and she hurriedly shuts that drawer. She finds a bandaid and heads back over to the blond boy.

"You got stepped on by Mori-senpai when you fell?" Haruhi repeats.

"It's okay," Asami assures them while cleaning the scratch and putting the bandaid on it, "it's only a scratch. It'll be healed in no time." Takashi smiles, relieved that his cousin will be okay.

"I'll be okay!" Mitsukuni grins. "Haru-chan! Ami-Chan! Did you talk to Suzushima earlier?"

"Suzushima?" They both realize that the male from earlier must be who he is talking about.

"Suzushima from grade 11 class C, Kasugasaki's fiance!" Asami eyes widen at that information and her heart drops in her stomach. That girl is not much older than her and she's already engaged. Will Shizue...truly arrange a marriage for Asami this early in her life?

Gentlemen's Knowledge Part 2: Heated Discussion Will Develop An Independent Mind.

"Everyone! Discuss Mr. Suzushima and Kasuga-hime's discord!" Tamaki orders, holding up pictures of the two people in question. "Starting with you, Hitachiin brothers!"

"They're childhood friends. It seems their parents decided their engagement!" The twins shout.

"Kyoya and Asami, your report!" Tamaki points at the two.

"Toru Suzushima. Outstanding grades, normal social status, and normal appearance. So called "C" class." Kyoya states.

"His seriousness is his strong point and he'll be studying in the UK starting next spring. His weakness..." Asami trails off, not wanting to say the rude things written about the poor dude.

"He doesn't have much presence." Hikaru says.

"And he's faint-hearted." Kaoru continues.

"So in other words, he's boring." Kyoya snaps his folder shut. "The reason for the Princess's illness, 'marrying such a dumb guy in the future is the stupidest thing to do.'"

"'For now she just wants to play around.' If you think about it, that's the flow." Hikaru says.

"Can't help it with that plain guy." Kaoru scoffs.

"Or," Asami crosses her arms in annoyance, "she's upset he's leaving her to go study and wants to make him as equally upset by bouncing from one guy to the next." She is ignored.

"Is that how it is? Kyoya, you knew about the fiancée all this time." Tamaki realizes. Asami looks over at the small blond boy sitting on Takashi's shoulders because he also knew this entire time.

"Isn't it my responsibility to investigate our guests? But there's no real value so I didn't bother telling." Kyoya shrugs.

"I live close to her house." Mituskuni informs them after the questioning look from Asami. "Suzushima is a good boy, right?"

"Yeah." Takashi says.

"Alright, everyone. We'll have to work on our strategy." Tamaki addresses them.

"Which one?" They all ask.

"Men, it is our responsibility as members of the elite Ouran Host Club to make every girl happy." Tamaki smiles and slams his fist on his hand. "Let's do it!"

•••

Asami stands beside Tamaki on the stairs with the rest of the host club. She gazes at the people in the hall, seeing hundreds of her classmates mingling. She is wearing a long silver blue dress with matching gloves that go up to her elbow from the Hitachiins' mother's fashion collection. It strangely resembles Cinderella's dress.

"It is so good to see you here tonight, my little lambs. The Ouran Host Club would like to bid you..." Tamaki bows. "Welcome." The lights of the chandeliers come on and the music begins playing. The lovely ladies clap their hands excitedly as the host club makes their grand entrance.

Kyoya has his arms outstretched elegantly. "As always, ladies, the Host Club members are here for your entertainment. So, we invite you to dance to your heart's content. Based on our dancing skills, one lucky young lady will be chosen as tonight's Queen. The Queen's reward will be a passionate kiss on the cheek from our King." Girls erupt into excited squeals.

"Good luck to you, my darlings." Tamaki winks. Some girls swoon and the others have hearts coming from them as they cheer excitedly.

"Haruhi, Asami, show some enthusiasm!" The twins say to them.

"Well, excuse me, you guys. Sorry. I'm not used to this sort of thing. I've only ever gone to the festivals held in my neighborhood park." Haruhi comments.

"I think you guys forget that I've only been introduced to this world a few months ago. All of this is relatively new to me and I'm not use to it yet." Asami informs them.

"I don't think you can really consider that a party or not. Well, since you're already here, you might as well get yourself something to eat. We've got quite a spread." Kyoya says to Haruhi. "You'll get use to it soon enough especially with how many parties the Souh family attends." He addresses Asami.

"A spread?" Haruhi turns her head slightly. "With fancy tuna?" She asks. Kyoya freezes.

"Are there any korokke?" Asami asks. She did help with the numbers to make sure they stayed in budget but she didn't really focus on what the hosts got for food and drinks. "I had those at that charity event for the first time and they were delicious." Kyoya's pen breaks at hearing that.

"Fancy tuna?! Korokke?!" The hosts yell.

Tamaki flips off the top of the stairs with ease and points to Kyoya. "Get some fancy tuna and korokke here right now!"

"Add some deluxe sushi and korokke." Kyoya says into the phone, already calling the catering company.

"You poor things. You poor little dears." Hikaru clings onto Haruhi while Kaoru is on Asami. The girls are deadpanning at everyone around them, both silently thinking about how the twins are pricks.

The party has officially started and Asami has danced with quite a few male guests. She is standing by the refreshment table, drinking some fruit punch when someone clears their throat. She glances up to see Ritsu standing there in a black suit. "Hello," she greets, "I wasn't expecting to see you here. I didn't get the vibe from you that you're a party person."

"Kazuki asked me to attend for him to make sure no one tries killing you again." Ritsu informs her, wincing a bit at the dark look in her eyes. "He says he's still not talking to you until you apologize for your recklessness."

"Recklessness?" She scoffs. "Tell him he's being a prick and that I can look after myself. I don't need a babysitter." She goes to walk away when Ritsu grabs her arm.

"M-may I have a d-dance?" He stutters out. She nods her head and finishes her drink, placing it on a dirty plate and heads out it the dance floor with him. He nervously places a hand on her waist and hold her hand in his other one. She gently rests her free hand on his shoulder. The music starts and the duo begin to dance together. Asami winces when Ritsu steps on her foot by accident. He quickly apologizes. The music eventually comes to an end. He bows and she performs a curtsy. "Thank you."

"Have a nice night," she smiles at him and walks away. She is humming to herself, expertly weaving in and out of the crowd to avoid the hungry males trying to get to her when she bumps into someone. "I'm sorry—oh, it's just you." She stops when sees it was Kaoru that she bumped into.

"Just me?" He places a hand on his heart. "That's a bit hurtful." He looks around and sees numerous guys shoving their way toward her. He holds out his hand to her. "May I have this dance?" She looks and sees the males as well and immediately nods her head, putting her hand in his. He whisks her away to the dance floor. As the music swelled, they began their dance, their steps merging seamlessly with the rhythm. Kaoru leads her with gentle precision, guiding her through a series of elegant twirls. Asami and Kaoru stare into each other's eyes as the world around them fades a bit. They moved as if in a dream, gliding effortlessly across the floor. Their bodies are moving in perfect synchronization with each step they take. The guests around them stop and watch with awe and jealousy. Kaoru decides to shake it up a bit by grabbing her waist and lifting her up in an spin, gently placing her back on the ground to continue the dance. Asami finds herself becoming lost in the music, in the movements and in his Amber-colored eyes. Her heart beats quicker when she sees his eyes flicker down at her lips for a moment before locking back onto hers. As the final notes of the waltz filled the air, the two slowly came to a stop, Asami still in his arms as they catch their breaths. The guests that were watching them erupt into applause, fairly impressed at the display of dance skills from both people. Asami and Kaoru ignore the noise around them. Their focus remained solely on each other, their eyes locked in a gaze that conveyed various emotions.

"Come on!" Suddenly, Hikaru appears and yanks them away from the dance floor. "The operation has started!" He leads them into a room where the other hosts are. Asami laughs at the sight of Haruhi hanging off Takashi's shoulder.

"Help me," Haruhi reaches out for Asami.

"I think you can put her down now." Asami kaughs, patting Takashi's arm. He places Haruhi on the floor.

"You didn't have to be so forceful!" Haruhi slightly yells.

"Nevermind that. Go get changed!" Kaoru places clothes in her arms and shoved her toward the changing curtain.

"A little accident towards the end of the night would be quite thrilling and remember Haruhi, there are only twenty minutes remaining before the party reaches its climax. Suzushima is already waiting for you in the classroom across the hall." Kyoya informs her. Haruhi comes out of the changing room with a pink dress and her hair being longer. She sits in a makeup studio.

"You have to ask how he feels, okay?" Mitsukuni tells her.

"Uh, we know this is the kings' strategy, but it's kind of unsettling." The twins comments while doing her makeup.

"Gentlemen. Here you all are. What are you doing? The guests are you waiting for-" Tamaki appears in the door and stops when he sees Haruhi.

"So, what do you think?" The twins ask. Haruhi makes her way to the door in an awkward fashion.

"Wow, you look so cute!" Mitsukuni gushes.

"My face feels heavy and it's hard to walk in these shoes." Haruhi informs them.

"It's just for a few moments and then you can get back into your normal clothes." Asami laughs.

"Good luck, Haruhi!" The twins chuckle evilly as she leaves.

"I can't believe it. She's so pretty..." Tamaki says with a blush.

•••

The hosts watch as Kanako runs away from the room in tears with Toru rushing after her. "Looks like we just made matter worse." Haruhi states.

"But he did go running after her." Tamaki says with a soft smile. Toru finally manages to grab Kanako's wrist. Three spotlights surround the couple. "Ladies and gentlemen. It is now time for us to begin the final dance of this evening festivities. The last waltz of the night has been chosen by the host club for this couple." Toru lets go of Kanako's wrist. He holds out his hand and bows.

"Princess Kasuga?" There's a moment of silence. "May I have this dance?" She gasps softly. Then she smiles as she takes Toru's hand.

"Yes." The music begins. The Host Club and the guests watch the couple while they do the waltz with cherry blossoms petals falling around them. The Hitachiin twins are snacking on bananas with smug looks across their faces.

"Ah, may this awkward couple be forever blessed!" Tamaki gushes.

"And now we'll announce the Queen of the ball!" Hikaru shouts.

"Congratulations Princess Kanako Kasugazaki!" Kaoru announces. Everyone claps.

"And for her reward, a kiss on the cheek from the King!" Hikaru and Kaoru exchange a smirk. "Haruhi Fujioka will stand in for Tamaki!" Haruhi and Tamaki both let out shouts of shock. The twins put their arms up mischievously. "Kyoya did say a little accident towards the end of the night might make the night more thrilling for everyone!"

"There's no way I can kiss her!" Haruhi protests.

"How about doing this instead of the dance?" Kyoya smirks. "We'll cut your debt by ⅓ for this." Asami skips down the stairs and holds out a hand to Kanako to escort her to Haruhi. They link arms and slowly begin to walk up the steps.

"I know it isn't Tamaki, but at least it's your current favorite host, right?" Asami jokes. Kanako laughs quietly at her.

"Well, it is just a peck on the cheek." Haruhi slowly walks down the steps to them.

"Hey, you don't think this is Haru-chan's first kiss, do you?" Mitsukuni asks. Haruhi gently cups Kanako's face.

"What?!" Tamaki shouts as Kanako turns her face slightly as Haruhi goes to kiss her cheek. Tamaki leaps across the stairs. "Wait, Haruhi!" He slips on the banana peel, pushing Haruhi. Haruhi stumbles into Asami and the two fall onto the floor. "No!" Asami is staring wide eyed up at Haruhi as their lips are locked together. Haruhi scrambles to get off of her and awkwardly coughs, holding out a hand to help Asami up. Asami covers her lips, looking away from Haruhi as the people around them cheer at the accidental kiss. Haruhi is observing Asami from the corner of her eye. She briefly wonders why she is not upset or disgusted by kissing Asami—in fact, her stomach feels like butterflies are fluttering in it and her heart is beating a bit fast.

"I'm sorry," Asami apologizes to Haruhi.

"Asami!" Tamaki grabs her sister and shakes her. "Was that your first kiss?" Asami slowly nods her head. "Haruhi!" He turns and Haruhi also nods her head. He screams and vanishes into the corner, crying at how his darling sister and Haruhi have been ruined.

"He's so dramatic," Haruhi sighs. Asami laughs and nods her head.

"This was an interesting night." She says. "I don't think the other hosts expected that either." The two girls look at the other hosts and sees them as equally upset by them kissing. Some are upset that it wasn't them kissing Haruhi while a few wished to be the one kissing Asami.

•••

"I have found suitors for them both." Shizue informs Yuzuru as they sit in the office at the main mansion. She pulls out multiple files and flings them onto the desk. "You can't imagine how hard it was to convince these parents to offer their sons and daughters up to your filthy children."

"My children aren't even in their last year of school yet." Yuzuru shakes his head in disbelief. This is why his mother came home early. "Can't we wait?"

"We can wait on Tamaki. He's a male and your heir which makes it easier to find suitors for him and I'm sure a few of these women will wait for his decision, but for her," Shizue's face pinched together in disgust, "it'll be much harder for us to find her someone if we wait." She points at one file in particular. "This is who I want you to introduce to her first. He goes to the same school as her. It'll be easy to arrange their schedules to run into each other. Asami is much like you," she grumbles, "I am positive that if we do not make her feel like it is her choice, she'll refuse any marriage candidate we present her. Make her believe she chose this. I expect to hear results when I come back next." She raises from her chair and leaves the room without another word. Yuzuru stays in his chair, warily eyeing all the files before picking up the file she pointed at. He opens it and his eyes widen in shock at the candidate.
