Maura hurried through the foliage and into the graveyard, her pulse quick with anticipation. A little ways off, scattered slightly among the gravestones, were three girls named Karen, Cammie, and Brooke.

Cammie jumped a bit in surprise when she noticed Maura standing there.

"Hey." Maura greeted. Her eyes drank in the warm afternoon.

"You scared me!" Cammie exclaimed with her hand clutching the t-shirt material over her heart.

Maura walked towards Brooke and Karen, asking aloud as she went, "Isn't it weird how none of these graves have headstones?"

"They take a little while to come in; they have to be engraved." Karen said.

"These graves have been here for longer than just a 'little while'." Maura replied quietly under her breath.

"There's someone buried here named Maura." Brooke teased.

Maura laughed nervously. "No way!"

Cammie giggled. "I got a picture of her grave!"

"Should we really be taking pictures of graves?" Karen questioned.

"That's probably bad luck, Cammie."

"Who cares?" Cammie asked with a grin.

"Guys, I have to show you something." Maura told them.

Everyone followed Maura down the path on the far side of the property that wasn't blocked off by trees. The path was walled by greenery on the right side. After a short walk, Maura stopped at a hole in the chain link fence folded into the foliage.

"Through here."

The girls clambered through and found themselves in a small area with sparse grass and abundant litter. The green, leafy walls were overgrown and dipped in on the left side, leaving a sort of threshold for the abandoned shed that stood there. The light barely penetrated its gaping doorway, even with the bright noontime sun.

"Woah." Karen broke the silence.

"Do you dare me to go in?" Cammie asked.

"No! We don't know what's in there." Maura said.

Brooke shrugged. "Let's do it."

"Fine. You guys can go, but someone's got to live to tell the story." Maura crossed her arms.

Brooke smirked at her. Cammie took a couple of steps toward the darkness but froze up. She just stood there, staring into the abyss before her. Her knees began to tremble.

Karen nudged her shoulder. "What are you waiting for?"

"I can't do it; something feels wrong here..."

The other girls saw the fear written in her eyes and kept quiet. They all returned to the graveyard.

"These headstone-less graves kind of unsettle me." Karen admitted.

"Yeah." Maura agreed.

Maura found the grave that bore her same first name. She pondered what this Maura was like. She wondered if by some crazy chance there was yet another Maura among the nameless graves. Maybe there was a girl her age buried there, she thought. Maura shivered.

"Boo!" Cammie screamed, jumping out from behind the great maple leaf tree disecting the last row of graves.

"Ah!" Maura leaped back in shock. Her foot slipped on the moist ground beneath her and she fell, striking her head on a tall, worn gray headstone.

Maura's world went hazy for a moment. Everything became speckled black, tinged with red, and blurred out of focus. Warm blood streamed down her neck.

"Oh my gosh! Maura!" Karen exclaimed.

"Oh shit. What do we do?!" Brooke said.

Cammie kneeled down beside her and pulled off her t-shirt. She sat Maura up and pressed it to the bleeding wound. "Hold this here." Cammie instructed.

"We gotta get you home. Can you stand?" Brooke asked worriedly.

"Yeah..." Maura choked out.

"Help me." Cammie demanded, slipping one of her arms around Maura.

Together Brooke and Cammie got Maura to her feet. They took a few steps before Maura shoved them away feebly.

"I can handle it." She said.

Maura then took a few unsteady paces by herself. A sudden pain tormented her head and she doubled over, the t-shirt slipping from her grip and blood freely dripping heavily onto the ground.

"Fuck!" Cammie yelled.

Brooke and Karen had their arms around Maura within seconds.

"Get the t-shirt!!" Brooke said, frustrated.

Cammie kneeled down to grab it. When she tilted her head up, her eyes were met with the earthen mound of a nameless grave.

And Maura's blood splattered all over it.
