Daniel

"Every single one of you men are important in this War!

Yes, we may be down on soldiers but we can fight better than they can!

We have the connection between us as if we are brothers!

We have trained from morning to night!

And so I will tell you this,

Fight for the ones you love,

fight for our country!"

And then we charge.

We charge at the army ten times larger than us.

And we do what Johnathan told us to.

We fight.

We fight for three days.

And slowly, some of us die.

The first day, one soldier from our side is shot.

A hundred on the other.

The second day, they use cannons.

Then we lose a hundred.

Only fifty of their soldiers are affected.

The third day is chaos.

Our entire army is affected by their weapon.

Fire.

We've never heard of the tactic used at war before.

It was so sudden we didn't react at first.

Helicopters from above pour gasoline on us.

"Run!"

I hear someone say,

"run before they ignite the flames!"

And then the floor is on fire.

It was so fast.

But somehow, I react faster.

I run and my heart beats wildly.

I am running away from a fire.

I'm thinking to myself.

I am going to die.

But I don't give up.

My right leg feels a horrible, aching pain but I still run.

I don't look back.

Then, I am out of the gasoline affected area.

And I yell.

I yell so loud that the birds are frightened.

The ground seems to shake beneath my feet.

The earth stops spinning for a moment.

The clouds cover the sun.

And for the first time in a while,

I cry.

I sob into the ground.

I cry for my army that died.

I cry for my country.

And then, I lay down on the ground.

And close my eyes.

Hoping I can escape this misery.

But my heart still beats.

The earth keeps spinning.

And the sun keeps shining.

As if nothing has happened.
