Both your mother and I rejoiced at your letter. The news of your disgrace did indeed reach us and your mother has been inconsolable at the news of your death. But now that we know you are indeed alive I will do everything within my power to restore your good name. Germany needs men of your caliber to win this war. You are a decorated hero and I'm sure my influence will be sufficient to restore you to your rightful post.

We are eager to see you and meet your wife, your mother sighed in delight when I told her of your marriage. She found your elopement to be quite romantic. But I would caution you that she will still scold you for not being included in wedding preparations.
