Duos

Quiet tears slid down my face. Salty tears slipped onto my lips where I had kissed her. My beautiful Robynne didn't deserve me. She could never understand why I did what I did. I took something extremely important from her. Something no fairy or pixie could replace. I took her wings. I stole her life. How would she run from the kings army now? And she had said she loved me, and I didn't even hesitate. I killed my lovely Robynne. My bestest friend. I had betrayed her and she would never even know why. I flew out of the tunnels that I knew so well and towards my home. My hands rested in my pockets and my face certainly showed guilt and despair. The sky echoed my heart and the clouds swelled with rain. The rain masked my tears but not my feelings. What would Juniper think of me? She might treat me worse than what I could ever truly do. A quick thought jumped into my head as I neared toward the eagles nest. I could just fly a little closer and the eagle would take me away from all of this. It would be over for me. Suffering would be no more. Then I remembered the thought of my sister tied up and alone with the king and no one to hear her screams. The idea shook from my miserable brain. There would be only one way to make up for what I had done. I would help her secretly. Not even she would know. My sister would be safe and so would I. Robynne might escape and write a new life. Forget about me and the horror I committed to her. The thought uplifted my mind slightly and I was able to put up a convincing front as I walked into my house. I expected my sister to be waiting for me, instead I was greeted by eerie silence. The cold darkness shook my hand and gave me a hug even though I did not welcome it. I fumbled around for a few minutes until I found a candle which I promptly lit , so that I could light my way. I quickly found only more vacancy and nothing else. The only sound I could hear was my breathing. Huhh whooo went my lungs as walked around more in hope of finding something. I discovered nothing until I can upon her room. The oak door that once stood in the door way was looked as if it had been tackled and pushed aside. My adrenaline pumped faster as I continued farther into her room. The bed was unmade and her beloved teddy bear laid on her pillow with its head torn off. I ran over to it and swooped it up into my arms. I clutched it tightly and more tears began to flow. My knees buckled under me and I fell to the floor with a thud. The tears clouded my sorrowful eyes but I was able to notice a small piece of parchment gently float down from the ceiling. My fingers fumbled for it desperately. And as I snatched it from the wooden floor, my heart fluttered. My eyes scanned it quickly and my breathing hastened. No. I told myself. It's not true. I reread the short notice for the fifth time and realized, it was indeed very true.
The job is not finished. Maybe the absence of Juniper, your sister, will motivate you to once and for all slaughter the traitor Robynne Byrd. Until then, Ms. Juniper will accompany the King at his palace in Ninvaor. Carry out the task or receive the consequences.
I cried even harder. Either I save my best friends life or my sisters. How can I possibly choose. There has to be a way to choose both. Then I decided that I would save my sister before I could even think of rescuing Robynne from her terrible fate. I loved her, but Juniper was family and I couldn't abandon her. Robynne would understand, wouldn't she? I might not save her from her fate but I wouldn't let her die, at least not by the hands of the King. With that thought in mind I closed my sad eyes and curled up on the wooden floor. Clutching Juniper's beloved teddy bear, I fell into a deep slumber.
