That particular interaction had passed as quickly as it had occurred - Meera and Alia gossiped about how Kabir had asked her to close the door, but soon they realised it was not a matter to spend a lot of time on.
It was going to be Diwali soon, and Meera wanted to go for shopping. "Ma, when are we going for shopping?"
It was already six in the evening but Meera wanted to buy a latest lahenga before the fresh stock ran out at her favourite store.
"We won't be able to come today," Meera's mother said referring to her father, "We have to go to Munshi uncle's place. But you can go with Aman."
Oh, well. Now she would have to ask him.
She ran up to his room and knocked. "Yes?" he called out.
"It's me. Open the door, bhaiya." Meera said.
The door opened and in she went. There was Kabir and one more boy in the room, one whose name she didn't remember.
Meera focused on her brother. "Mom wants us to go to the mall to buy our Diwali clothes today. So are we going?"
Aman groaned. "I don't want to. Look, my friends are here and we were playing this video game. We can go tomorrow if you want."
"Diwali is in a week," piped in Kabir. He continued, "let's just go. We all can go together, right?"
The other boy also agreed so Aman accepted his fate too, and said yes.
"Okay, we'll go."

At the shopping mall, Meera led them to her favourite store where she started going through the latest collection of lahengas while the boys looked around for their kurtas.
Meera was taking two lahengas to try but just before she went inside the trial room, Kabir cornered her.
"Here," he handed her a blush pink coloured lahenga with net dupatta, "you should try this one."
She clutched the lahenga in her hand and looked around while Kabir walked to the boys. He had his hands in his pocket and was wearing some really cool grey joggers and a black hoodie. Amar and the other boy were talking among themselves and Meera suddenly felt grateful that he hadn't noticed the little exchange between Meera and Kabir.
She tried on the lahenga and it fitted her perfectly. The blouse with intricate designs fitted her petite figure and complemented her breasts and the skirt was really flowy. A little skin was visible but it didn't look vulgar at all. It actually looked quite cute on her. She draped her dupatta and walked out of the trial room.
"Bhaiya?" she called out to Aman, wanting to ask his opinion. All three boys turned to look at her.
Kabir nodded at her appreciatively and a small smile slid on his face. He felt that she looked really pretty in it.
Aman looked quite impressed too, it definitely did look good on her. "You look good Meera, you want to buy this one?"
"Yes, please."
They walked out of the mall when suddenly Aman said to the boys, "Raj isn't well since a few days and he's been hospitalised. I want to check in on him, so who can come with me?"
"But bhaiya, i have to get back home and i don't want to go by rickshaw!" exclaimed Meera.
The other boy whose name Meera didn't remember decided to check on Raj too, but Kabir could not.
"Uggh, i can't go. You know about my family, there's a dinner at home and everyone's coming. In fact, it's actually getting late for me, i need to go." Kabir sighed.
Aman stood in doubt for a minute and thoughtfully said, " If we guys go, then how will Meera go home?"
"No problem," jumped in Kabir, "your house in on my way so i'll drop her. I have my bike too."
Meera's stomach instantly flipped. On a motor bike with Kabir? The thought was almost arousing for her! She had only, in her wildest imagination, wondered how it'd feel to sit on his bike with him with her arms wrapped around his muscled torso.
Aman rushed off to see his ailing friend, while in front of Meera, Kabir got on his bike. She noticed that he didn't have his helmet with him that day.
"Come on," he motioned for her to get on.
"I'm scared!" she admitted, embarassed.
"Oh come on! Here," he offered her his hand, "hold onto my hand and get on the bike." Once she did so, Kabir started the bike, and it's safe to say that Meera felt her heartbeat instantly risen.
"Hold onto me," he ordered as the bike came to life. And Meera for one, didn't need another telling.
She sat as close to him as she could, and wrapped her hands around him even more tightly. She didn't care about anything right then, she didn't want to die on a motor bike without even falling in love once.
The wind blew through her flying hair and the rush finally got to her. "Wowwwww" she screamed, her voice cutting through the wind.
"It's thrilling, isn't it?" Kabir screamed back.
They came to a smooth stop right on the cut of her house and Kabir stopped the bike. But Meera didn't move.
"We've reached," Kabir announced in a slow voice which made her aware of her surroundings. She realised she still held to him tightly, and quickly pulled back her hand.
She got down and awkwardly stood beside the bike. She didn't know what to say.
"Thankyou for dropping me off, Kabir bhaiya," she said at last. She didn't want to add bhaiya but she just felt that she should.
Kabir looked at her for a moment, which felt like eternity to Meera. She lowered her gaze, and kicked a small stone. Suddenly the sidewalk seemed pretty interesting to her.
"You're welcome." He smiled.
But Meera was still lost in thought and continued to look down.
He cleared his throat causing Meera to look up. Instantly, their eyes met. "And you don't have to call me bhaiya. Just Kabir is fine with you."
Meera blushed at this. "O-okay Kabir Bhai- I mean Kabir."
Only his name alone sounded strange to her ears, but she liked it.
Kabir extended his hand to tuck a small section of Meera's hair that seemed to get into her face.
Meera couldn't believe it! What was happening this day?
"Oh, sorry- your hair- it probably would've gone in your eyes" Kabir stammered nervously.
She blushed furiously as he moved his hand away, but she could still feel where his finger had touched her while he was tucking her hair back.
The bike sprung to life and just before going off in it, he said "Goodnight Meera."
"Good night" she smiled.
She turned around and walked to her house playing with her hair. A small smile crept to her face. What was happening to her?
