Moonlight
For CriddleTheWriter
Chloe was in the middle of doing her homework when she heard something tap her window. At first she ignored it but it tapped again. Curious she peeked out.
Standing just below her window was her boyfriend Freddie. He was under a Street lamp, leaning on the pole. He waved at her.
Chloe slid her window open, careful not to make a lot of noise. "Freddie," she hissed. "What are you doing out there?"
"Come out here." Freddie asked, waving her over with a smile. He looked so handsome in the dark.
"I can't, my folks will kill me." Chloe turned back to make sure they didn't hear her.
"They're watching Dancing with the Stars in the living room," Freddie said. "I saw them through the window. Come on out."
Clearing away her stuff from the window, Chloe was able to squeeze out. Thank goodness her house was only one story. She ran over to where Freddie was standing. She smiled up at her boyfriend, wondering what was on his mind. He smiled back.
"What's up?"
Freddie took her by the hand. "Let's go for a walk."
It had just gotten dark outside. They cut through to the woods where they just strolled hand in hand.
"Where are we going?" Chloe wanted to know. Freddie can be a little sneaky at times and she wanted to be sure he had no shenanigans in mind tonight. She had already told him she wanted to wait until they went to the next level.
"Listen to that," Freddie said as they stopped. He looked around. "Hear that?"
Chloe looked around. "What? I don't hear anything. What's going on?"
"Chloe," Freddie held her hands in his own as he looked down at her. "Relax and just be in the moment. I was outside earlier and I noticed how soothing the night was so I wanted to soak it in. We have this amazing full moon out and there's no noise or stress. Just listen."
Chloe was still as she heard only crickets and the light rush of the brook nearby. Freddie was right. This was a little relaxing.
Freddie took her hand and they walked up the hill, savoring the warm breeze that occasionally blew on them. They listened to the leaves rustling in the trees, the occasional hoot of an owl.
They didn't say anything as they walked.
Soon the moon appeared. They sat on a dry patch of grass and gazed up at how huge and bright it was, and how the light bounced off the brook. Freddie continued holding her hand as they watched the moon and the fireflies fluttering around.
Chloe didn't realize how stressful life could get with their phones and emails, people talking a lot of nothing. Everybody was always in a hurry, always fighting.
When she told this to Freddie he said. "People don't take the time to just enjoy the little things. We have all this beauty and nobody bothers to even acknowledge it. I wanted to share this with you."
Chloe understood what he was saying. She was looking at things in a whole new way. She thought it was sweet of him to do this.
They sat and talked for a while, then Freddie walked her back home. He watched her as she started to climb back into her window.
"Freddie," she ran back to him. She gave him a hug. "Thank you for that walk. I really had a great time. Thank you for sharing that with me."
Freddie gave her a kiss on her forehead. "You're welcome. Sweet dreams, Chloe. Love you."
"Love you too."
Freddie watched as Chloe quietly slipped in her window, then walked away.
