Halloween
"What are you gonna do for Halloween this year?" You excitedly questioned Hanji.
"Eh? I dunno... Probably just some paperwork. I've got a lot of work to catch up on, so-"
"What?!" You interrupted, "You're not gonna dress up, or go trick or treating, or even give out candy?!"
"Well, Halloween isn't really a big deal..."
At this comment, you stared at Hanji with disgust.
"Who even are you?" You hissed.
"Woah, jeez, calm down! Does anyone here even celebrate Halloween anymore?"
"Of course! Last year, we-"
"You."
"Huh?"
"Not we. Just you. You were the only one who dressed up, remember? Some people didn't even know it was Halloween!"
"...oh, yeah..."
"You unconsciously blocked it from your memory, didn't you?" She asked with a laugh.
You sighed in defeat.
"If it means that much to you, I'll buy you some candy," the brunette offered with a grin.
"Not the point," you muttered before gaining newfound confidence, "Just you wait and see, Hanji! I'll rally the troops and it'll be the spookiest, sweetest Halloween ever!!"
Hanji looked surprised, almost startled, as you yelled these words with hopeful eyes.
"Just you wait and see!" You yelled as you ran off to rally the cadets.
~~~time skip to Halloween day~~~
You sat isolated in the mess hall, your sadness and despair drowning out the noise of chatting cadets. You weren't able to rally the troops as you had hoped; some cadets were willing to celebrate the holiday with you, but they were intimidated by the other soldiers who called your ideas childish.
You sighed deeply, all the Halloween spirit having been drained out of you.
Just as you were about to let out another heavy breath, the door flung open with a bang.
In the doorway stood Hanji, the blackness of night shrouding her features as the moon illuminated her oddly shaped silhouette. Suddenly the silhouette morphed into a whole new shape as Hanji stepped into the light, flinging a dark purple cape over her shoulders. Under the cape, Hanji wore all black. She looked around the room until her eyes met your wide ones.
A slight blush shone faintly across her cheeks as she said,
"Happy Halloween!"
She spoke with a lisp and as she smiled, you noticed a pair of fangs in her mouth.
You stood abruptly from your seat, slamming your hands on the table. The Halloween spirit flooded back into your body as you smiled widely at the vampire before you.
"HANJIIII," you wailed as you ran towards her, flinging your arms around her neck and practically jumping on her.
You squeezed her tightly as you held back joyful tears.
"This is the nicest thing anyone's ever done for me!"
Hanji hugged you back.
"Haha C'mon, it's no big deal. Calm down, people are staring. Speaking of people... No one else dressed up, not even you."
"Ah, yeah... Turns out I couldn't rally the troops. But you dressed up, and it's the coolest thing ever!! I love it! Where'd you even get the cape?" You continued to talk quickly with excitement and smile widely as you spoke to Hanji, ignoring the stares and snickers of cadets.
"Well if you're happy, then I guess wearing this and embarrassing myself was worth it."
In the background, you heard a deep voice speak up,
"Tch. You look awful, Shitty Glasses."
You whipped your head around to face Corporal Shorty and growled like an overprotective mother bear.
"Shut up! It's not like you could do any better!"
At this, the entire mess hall went silent, not a whisper to be heard. The only sound was the squeak of fear that escaped your lips and the first stomp of the Corporal's boots, which were heading your direction. You immediately bolted out the door and Levi followed after.
Everyone remained frozen, almost expecting to hear your screams when Levi caught up to you.
Suddenly, a sharp shriek broke the silence as it rang through the cold air. Hanji left the mess hall to find you, or maybe just your corpse, and after a short while, the cadets went back to idly chatting among themselves.
~~~time skip~~~
"You didn't have to stand up for me like that. I'm used to Shorty's snarky comments. Now you have stable duty for a month..." Hanji said apologetically.
"It was worth it," you smiled before shoveling another pile of manure.
"Plus, I think next year, there will be some costume competition," you added.
"What makes you think that?"
"When Levi caught me last night, he said, 'I definitely could do better than that shitty vampire costume.'"
"I don't think that means he will dress-"
"Next year is gonna be the best!" You declared, not paying any attention to Hanji's skepticism.
Hanji laughed nervously, wondering what she'll have to do next Halloween to make you happy after your hopes are crushed again. Or who knows? Maybe Levi will try and outdo Hanji's vampire costume next year...

Author's Note:
Since when is Hanji the voice of reason? Yeah... this isn't one of my best stories. Haha It's just that I'm late for Halloween and had to rush this. My bad!~
