Chapter Seven
Quick A/N: I really dislike how indent doesn't work, so I'm going to stop indenting my chapters. Sorry if this bothers you but it will make it easier for me to update.
Still shaking, I subtly gesture towards my dad with my head, opening my eyes wide to emphasize that something is wrong. Damien looks towards the direction I'm gesturing, his eyes frantically scanning the room until they land on my father. His eyes widen in surprise and fear.
"Kyla," he stage whispers. A really bad whisper if you ask me. "We need to leave now."
The sense of urgency in his voice startles me. I thought that nothing could frighten high and mighty Damien. Guess I was wrong.
"Kyla," he whispers, sharply this time. Guess it wasn't the time to get lost in my thoughts. "We need to go."
I set my menu down on top of the sticky table, and make my way out the door. I cringe at the sound of the bell as I leave, but don't stop and see if my father heard. Speaking of my father, why did Damien look frightened of him. He shouldn't know who he is. I haven't shown him any pictures, and I look nothing like him. Everyone always said I looked exactly like my mother.
A second bell shakes me out of my thoughts. I keep walking, unsure whether it is Damien or my father. My question is answered when a few seconds later, Damien runs up beside me. "Kyla, take this." I turn to look at him, wondering what he wants me to grab, and he hands me a shirt.
My eyes widen in terror as I realize it isn't my own shirt. I'm in the open! Anyone could see me! It's too late to get into safety though as I begin morphing. I close my eyes so I don't see my body shifting like playdough, the bones reforming into a new shape. I learned that lesson the hard way. The sight always causes me to vomit. I feel the transformation end and I open my eyes to see Damien's shocked face.
"What is it? Did someone see?" I look around in terror to see an empty street. I might be safe.
He shakes his head, as if to clear his thoughts from his head. "Uh.... no. No one saw. We have to go now." I roll my eyes. Guys. And they say that we are the confusing ones.
Damien guides us back to the safe house, where a new car is waiting. I look at him in confusion, the question on the tip of my tongue, but thinking better of it, I just get in the front seat.
I turn to Damien, who's already situated in the front seat. "What about our clothes? My stuff. I can't lose everything."
Not looking at me, he responds gruffly. "In the back. Now buckle your seatbelt and be quiet."
I follow his instructions for the entirety of the 6 hour drive. This one was much quieter, which was both good and bad. Good because it meant I didn't get into another car crash, but bad because it left me alone with my thoughts.
My thoughts drifted back and forth from Damien, to my parents, to the T.A.K. squad. Who knew what was going to happen. I could die tomorrow for heavens sake. But I can't think of that. I have to stay on the bright side. I racked my brains for something good that happened. My father is alive, but Damien is terrified of him. No one seems to be following us, but that doesn't mean no one is. We have a new car, but I don't know where we are going, and I'm not so sure Damien does either.
I sigh as my shoulders slump dejectedly. Maybe there isn't a good side. I lean back in my chair and let sleep overtake me.
Ok guys. I owe you 6 more chapters, plus regular Friday updates. The good thing is I am out of school now, and the only thing I have planned for summer vacation now that might cause me to not update is camp. No electronics allowed there, sorry ;-; I owe you guys sooo many chapters because I was sick in the hospital, then I had finals, and then I went on vacation in Europe. I haven't had a moment of free time since Europe, and I didn't have any wifi there, and data costs are astronomical so you guys are missing a few chapters. I don't have drafts for them, so it will take a while. I am super sorry for being a sucky author, and I hope I can make it up to you.
Okay, now time to be completely about feed back. Do you guys like the chapter length? Are they too long, too short? I need you guys, even silent readers (yes I know you guys are there) to help me with this. I know how important chapter length is to a story so I'm hoping to get it right.
