7) go with the flow

Look at this. The sentences are short. They are brief. They are bland. They repeat. And it's boring. Readers can't take this.

But observe: as the sentences grow, the writing flows. Everything is in place and seems as if it could take to the sky. The words run smoothly. Fragments are only given in small doses. Short sentence. Longer, lengthier, more wordy sentence. Appropriate medium sentence. It works well together. A variety of lengths means a lot in your paragraphs.
