Chapter Three
"You're late."
Robin found Ronnie and Eriol waiting for him in front of the forest he had requested. There they stood, Ronnie looking rather skeptical, and Eriol bouncing happily as he awaited his "adventure" to begin.
"Sorry," Robin muttered, shifting is backpack to suit his comfort, "I got a little held up."
The boy refused to say any more, soon gesturing for them to follow him into the woods. Eriol was bouncing back and forth on his feet as he walked, a bright smile on his face, and Robin couldn't help but let a small chuckle escape his lips. Eriol tilted his head to the side, furrowing his dark brows at the older male.
"Why do you guys keep laughing today?" He asked, grasping the straps of his backpack, "What's so funny?"
"You," Ronnie answered from behind him as he took a couple long strides, soon coming in between the two males. Robin nodded a bit, slowing down his pace as he realized he had no idea where he was really going.
"Do we know what we're gonna do when we get somewhere?" He murmured to himself, yet it did not go completely unheard.
"I thought you would know," Ronnie told him, giving him a small smirk, "after all, this was your idea."
"You don't gotta be so prideful about it," Robin shot back.
"I wasn't being prideful."
"That smirk on your face tells me otherwise."
"You wanna fight me?"
"Not really."
A long silence was heard after that, soon being broken by a few stifled giggles. The two older males looked back at Eriol, who was attempting to cover up his laughter. Robin sighed at the boy's naivety, once more gesturing for him to hurry up.
Fifteen minutes had passed and the boys seemed to be making no progress whatsoever. Everything to them looked exactly like everything before it, and they couldn't help but wonder if they were really going in circles the whole time. Robin shared a look with Ronnie, silently communicating between each other about the predicament they believed they were in.
"Guys, look at this!" Eriol's voice once more broke into the silence, and the boys' immediately turned their heads to where it came from.
What Eriol had found was extravagant and odd to say the least. It was a large, bushy hedge with stray branches pointing out in every direction possible. It couldn't be seemed normal at first, but when looked at closely, it could be seen that the hedge seemed to have no end in any direction. Looking up, the boys saw that it went further than they could see, and looking to the sides brought the same results.
"What is this?" Ronnie asked, prodding at it lightly with his foot.
"I have no idea," Robin replied, stepping up next to the oldest male.
"Well whatever it is, I won't let it stop us from our adventure!" Eriol cried, pushing his way through the bushes. As soon as he couldn't be seen, Ronnie and Robin shared a worried glance. Deciding to go in after him, they were mesmerized at the sight that befell upon them.
Trees of all shapes and sizes could be seen from every angle, and settled right in the center of it all was a hill with a small crystal clear lake at its foot. A tiny stream-like waterfall trickled through the grass and into the pond, making a serene sound to anyone who happened to hear it. Flowers that the boys had never seen were scattered around the land, taking shapes and colors that were unimaginable to the human brain.
"Wow," Robin breathed, wishing he had found this place earlier in his life. He stepped towards the pond lightly, crouching down near its edge. He dipped a finger into the water, pulling it out almost instantly. A shooting pain entered his finger, climbing up all the way to his shoulder. He held his finger close to himself, his face contorting into that of pain.
"What is it?" Eriol asked worriedly, rushing up to Robin.
"That's not normal water," he told the boy, holding up his finger for him to see. It took on that if a gray tone, looking abnormal to the eye.
Eriol's eyes widened in disbelief as he glanced to the water and back at Robin.
"That's reall-" he was immediately interrupted by the small sound of jingling bells. A flash of green rushed past his and Robin's view, catching their eye as it stopped atop Ronnie's head.
There, clutching onto the male's shaggy hair was what seemed to be a small human, or rather, a fairy. Green wings were placed on his back, and they seemed to flutter with anticipation as the creature grasped onto Ronnie's hair for dear life.
"I'm sorry, Kima! Please don't kill meeeee!!!"
