Asleep
A building towered over the trees.
I gazed at it wondering.
The flag on the top danced in the breeze.
I could not stop pondering.
The tower was golden and studded with pearls
Why was I frozen stiff?
Who lives in that tower; a boy or girl
As it sits on the edge of a cliff?
I made my decision; I ventured out.
I must find who lives in that tower.
From the foot of the tower, I'll look up and shout.
By this building surrounded by flowers.
No answer at all. Could they hear my voice?
Or was there nobody home?
I climbed the great tower; my only choice
And found that I wasn't alone.
A magnificent bed was what I found there
It sat at the edge of the room.
On the bed was a lady with golden hair
Who held a rose in bloom.
Her gentle lips were ruby red.
I knew she was not ill.
But she would not awake. I thought she was dead.
But she was breathing, still.
Then I kissed the lady with tears in my eyes.
She awoke and was mine to keep.
"What happened? Where was I?" she asked with surprise.
"Nothing. You just were asleep."
