Chapter 9
Eira
I was still running, not knowing where I was really going, but I needed to get out, I needed to get away from the terror, from the guilt. I needed to escape. I started to run faster, my legs starting to burn, and my stomach cramping, I didn't care. My breath turned ragged, but I couldn't stop. I didn't know where I was going, I just needed to get away. I needed a place to break down, I need a place to be set free.
I found the door I had come from and ran back inside. I ran into the main hallway, and was lost. I didn't understand. I was lost. I walked back the way I had been taken from the classroom, but I still couldn't find it. I wasn't running anymore though; I was just trying to find my way. trying to find my way through life, no experiences to guide me, no memories to take me, I was empty.
I was looking room to room, but there was no one, I was alone. Alone in darkness, alone in life. "Are you lost?" a voice asked me from the side.
"yes," I replied. I didn't care if this person was a demon butler or anyone else, I just didn't want to be alone.
"Come, I'll show you the way," I turned to see one of the identical twins, and he looked about sixteen.
I followed him and he smiled gently, asking my name.
"Eira," I replied, my voice becoming quiet and small.
"you're hurt," he observed looking at my foot, and I just realized I was limping. "You were one of the people who left, weren't you? It was a trap, I knew it. What happened?"
I felt stupid, "I don't want to talk-" I started but then yelped as he picked me up, the back of my neck on his arm and the other under my knees. "What are you..." I didn't finish the sentence, blushing lightly. He laughed slightly, and then looked at me, his eyes a bright blue, vivid, and seemed to be jumping insight of adventure. This was wrong. I was acting like this right after Ena...
He walked a bit, but seemed to be slightly straining. "You can put me down now," I said, my voice wavering, but loud enough.
"What? I didn't hear you," he said pulling me a bit closer, making me blush worse than I already was before. He smelled nice too.
We got to the classroom and he slowly let me go as I put my feet on the ground they gave out and I collapsed again, pain sharp through my feet.
"Guess you need a bit more help, huh?" he asked, his smile turning into a frown as I winced in pain. He picked me up again, in helped my sit down on one of the chairs in the classroom. Everyone starred, especially the other twin.
"I see you picked up something," the other twin remarked. "thanks for stopping me from going with them."
He shook his head, in an 'it's fine' way.
"I never got your name," I replied.
The people around me, who were turned toward me started introducing themselves, and I guess we were all trying to create a moment where we could forget the environment we were in. The twins with blueish black hair started, one of them saying, "Eilian, I suppose."
The one who had carried my said, "my name is Altair, or so they say. I was told that these weren't even our real names," he turned towards every on and said, "this is Eira"
"Brielle," the brunette said, a bright smile plastered on her face.
The girl with red hair looked hesitant at first, but then she said "Aithne."
The boy with golden hair said his name was Volt, and I for one thought it was the simplest name here. The ice breaker's name was Aureole, and for some reason I really felt annoyed by her. Then there was the girl with the dyed hair.
She was sulking in a corner away from the rest of the people and I decided to approach her. Altair had a slight look of nervousness as I saw his hand go up almost to pull me back, but he stopped.
"Hey, what's your name?"
"Does it matter? We're all enemies. We're going to kill each other anyways."
What a horrible attitude... "we don't have to listen to them..."
"What do you know? You were one of the idiots that left, I wouldn't be surprised if they killed you off right now. Honestly, coming back from a place like that and you still don't think they're serious? It's obvious something bad happened out there."
Things people say can never actually get to me, but I do get offended. I walked away, thinking about Ena, and how I was going to get out of here. Her effort wouldn't be in vain.
"And I almost got out," I muttered under my breath.
"Eira," the blonde girl, no Aureole said. "if you saw an entrance it was fake. It was an illusion. So, I wouldn't get your hopes out. Everything on the outside of there was an illusion too, the maze, the demons, you can't get out of here." There was a sad tinge to her voice but I couldn't believe it. illusions couldn't have killed Ena. All we did couldn't have been fake. Tears threatened to fall, but I couldn't let them. "They weren't illusions," I said in a whisper. "They were not illusions," I repeated this time almost screaming.
Brielle came over to me, and slowly started to pat my back as I completely broke down crying in front of everyone. I couldn't stop, but I could still feel her hand on my back and her voice comforting me, telling me we were going to be alright. It was familiar, and I started relaxing, but still coughing a bit.
"Brielle, why don't you take her to her room to get a bit of rest?" Aithne suggested.
She must of nodded because then in a soft voice she started coaxing me to stand up so we could go upstairs. My legs still hurt, and Altair reminded them of that, and volunteered on carrying me again. I still couldn't stop crying, but other images flooded my mind like the frozen butler. How?
Just then the door barged open and a dirty blonde haired girl came, panting and half dead. I opened my blurry eyes to see her, my eyes puffy and red. Behind her a girl with pitch black hair stood, and said, "They're coming inside. Hurry," she was panting and had multiple cuts, her clothes in tatters.
"Who?" Aureole asked, her brows narrowing.
"The people who were killed by the demons."
