As time passed, Melody struggles to accept that three months later she's still imprisoned in the asylum. After the obvious murder of one of the orderlies and with officers interrogating everyone, tensions have been on the rise.

Melody was nonchalant about the situation, but as a big sister to Annabelle, she had to protect her at all costs. As for Annabelle? Well that's a completely different story. Because of the stress of potentially being caught, Annabelle's been constantly acting out and having to be sedated.

On the one day that she wasn't, she and Melody discussed how to respond if they were called in for questioning.

"Pretend like you don't speak English," Melody hesitantly insisted, before changing her mind, "Wait, no, just pretend like you didn't know that he was dead or who he was."

Annabelle thought for a moment, "But," she trailed off, before starting over, "But, he was really bad. He deserved to die."

Melody sighed. "They'll probably kill you or put you in jail if you tell them that." Horror manifested on Annabelle's face when she said that."He's a grown-up and so is the police, so of course, they'll believe him over us."

Annabelle folded her scarred and bruised arms. The moonlight seeped in through the window, illuminating just enough for her arms to be almost, fully visible. Tears filled to the brim of Melody's eyes. She's never cried for anyone before, because of her lack of sympathy, but something about seeing her little sister hurt like that just mashed every melancholy button that she had.

It was bad enough that they were forced to go through all of that, but what made it worse was the fact that Betty went AWOL. The least that she could've done was tell them, but no she decided to run away and be selfish.

Melody took a deep breath, then gave Annabelle a stern expression, "We're breaking out tonight."

She scoffed at the idea and shook her head. She's always talking about breaking out, but never goes through with it.

"I'm serious," Melody said reassuringly, "I know my way around here and so do you. I mean come on? I know you want to taste something good, like chocolate again."

Annabelle licked her dry lips. It was true. She was becoming annoyed at the same menu every day: Pasta and garlic bread. She's craved something sweet since the second or third week that she arrived.

A smile grew on Melody's face when Annabelle agreed to escape with her. Perfect, now all they needed to do was figure out when to go.

Melody pondered for a moment until a lightbulb went off in her head. "Let's go right now while no one's paying attention. We could sneak out back and work our way through the yard without even being detected."

That sounded easier said than done, but Annabelle was so eager to get off the grounds that she didn't even care. She smiled, then got up with Melody. They walked to the exit, staying vigilant with each step they took to the door and out of it.

The tenebrosity of the hall made it impossible to decipher which corner they should turn and the door to open. They began to grow worrisome.

"Should we just go back," Annabelle asks in a hushed tone.

Melody shook her head and when she realized that she couldn't see her gesture in the darkness of the hall, she whispered back, "No. I-I think it's not too far from here."

Melody kept walking with her hand being tightly gripped by Annabelle's. The breezy air coming from vents nearby nipped at their skin, making them shiver. They tried to sustain their teeth from the involuntary chattering and their footsteps to stealthily guide them down the deep hall.

Melody kept her hand out until she reached a door and with a smile on her face, she pulled on it until it swung open. Her happiness shifted to fear when she realized that she revealed the door to the watch office.

In a swivel chair in front of the glass, one-way window sat a man who seemed to have been asleep. Melody took shaky breathes as she turned to face a fearful Annabelle. She whispered, "Keep watch for me. I'm gonna get his keys and flashlight. If you hear anything, then let me know and we'll run back to the rec room, okay?"

She didn't respond. She was in a daze. Her lips were parted slightly and her head was tilted to the side as she stared at the sound-asleep orderly. Melody squeezed her arm to make her snap out of it, which worked almost instantly.

"Did you hear me? I said to keep watch."

After Annabelle nodded, Melody let go of her arm and turned back around. She padded her way over to the man in the chair and carefully reached her lengthy arm closer to him. When she grabbed the flashlight and keys, the booming sound of footsteps approaching gave her goosebumps.

The man stirred in his sleep, which made Melody jolt backward. Now that she had what she needed, the girls began running out of the room. Melody listened to the whistling with her eyes shut until she was able to tell where it was coming from: to the right of the hall.

She ran left with Annabelle gripping tightly onto her arm and practically flying behind her. When they knew that they were safe they stopped running. Melody turned on the flashlight and smiled at Annabelle. She was shaking like a leaf and was close to crying.

She pointed the flashlight down the t-section halls, "Maybe it's tha--"

The girls gasped loudly when they heard someone yell out, "Hey!"

Melody dropped the flashlight and the girls began running down a random, unlit hall.
