Page Twenty-Five
"Well?" I ask again, now growing impatient.
They exchange glances, clearly speechless. Austin lets out a defeated sigh and then looks me in my eyes.
"She's been accusing John of some pretty--" she shuts her eyes and shakes her head with a disgusted expression. "Pretty horrendous crimes. Something we all take seriously."
"Mhm," Bobby finally speaks and I look at him as he does so, "I have three nieces. If anyone ever did something so heinous, then I'd be right in here with you or in jail."
"What'd he do?"
"Don't make us spell it out for you, kid. You're fifteen, I'm sure you're smart enough to figure it out." Bobby runs his fingertips through his short hair as he looks down at the table.
"Personally, I believe what she's saying," Austin says with a gloomy tone, "but we need proof, otherwise it's his word against hers."
"Proof that he – defiled her?" I ask while changing my attention from her to him.
He nods, I look at her and she does too. "Let's just get him to admit that he did it."
"That's the thing: no one's allowed to enter Psych except for the ones administering meds and providing the patients with counseling. We," she motions towards herself and Bobby. He's staring attentively, nodding every now and then, "Can't get in until a week from today. You'll just have to wait till then."
I bite my lower lip during my deep contemplation. I don't want to wait that long, but what's left to do?
"Alright. Well, when the time comes can I go too? I really need to speak to her."
"Sure. I'll come and get you." Austin smiles, rubbing the middle of my back.
I smile back, "Thanks. Well, I need to find Anna. Talk to you later."
"Talk to you later, kiddo." Bobby says with an ear to ear smile.
"Catch you around." Austin says.
I exit the small room, then travels down the hall leading to the recreation room. As I walk, I let my mind wander. So what Betty said was true and Mary-Sue is being punished instead of him.
John walks in my direction with a stern expression. As he nears closer I stare at him with a hostile expression which pretty much flies past him. I look over my right shoulder as he marches down the hall behind me.
Just breathing the same air as he and walking through the same halls makes me angry. I bump into someone and as I crash to the ground, I look up to look them in their eyes. Of course it's Betty.
"How long are you going to wait?" She asks me with her arms folded under her breasts. She's wearing an olive green blouse, black trousers and black flats. Her golden blonde hair is straight down and stops about three inches below her shoulder line. Her deep blue eyes are perfectly rounded and her pale skin has light pink on the cheekbone. She's a lot better looking today. "How long?"
I rise to my feet, then dusts myself off despite having nothing on me. I guess it's a habit of mine. "We'll handle him, but not right now. Where's Annabelle?"
"Do I have to do it myself? I'm tired of you chickening out." she places her hands on her hips as she looks down at me.
I furrow my eyebrows at her, "Why do you care so much?"
She stops scowling and lets her hands fall to her sides. "Why are you treating me like I'm cold hearted?"
"Why do you keep answering my questions with questions?" I raise my eyebrows in anticipation.
She looks over me, smiles, then brings her eyes back down to meet mine, "Your precious Anna is running around for you. Wanna go talk to her or the new kid?"
"New kid?"
She runs towards the wall. Instead of watching the wall swallow her whole, I run towards the rec room. He's probably gonna be a bigger hazard than Mary-Sue and Annabelle when it comes to escaping. If not, then we could use him.
I step in and everything's exactly the way it was when I left, except this time some kid was talking to Anna on the sofa in front of the window. His chestnut hair is fluffed up atop his head and his bluish green eyes lock onto mine as I step forward.
He must be one of those spoiled rich kids, because he's wearing a teal sweater over a white shirt with the collar hanging out, black trousers with white socks and leather Moroccan shoes. I recognize them from my brief trip to Morocco when I was twelve.
"Well my word," he speaks while standing to his feet to face me. His accent sounds British. "Never in my seventeen years of living have I seen such a remarkable specimen such as yourself. Such a delicate, beautiful flower." he scans me from the top of my hair to the socks on my feet.
I look at Anna who's also baffled by what this kid is saying. I furrow my eyebrows at him. "What are you talking about?"
He chuckles, "You're very alluring. What might your name be?"
I relax my face and body, since they were both tensed up. "Um, it could be Rosalie, but it's Melody."
"Well, Melody, my name is Cody Warren, but my friends call me Kentucky" he takes my left hand in his right and brings it to his soft lips, but before he kisses the back of my hand, he speaks again, "Pleasure to meet you."
Before I can respond, an orderly yells out, "Dinner time!"
Everyone turns to look in her direction as she speaks, pretty much startling everyone except for Cody. He drops my hand, "Excellent. What might be on the menu for today?"

He's sitting with Anna and I at our usual table. I can tell that she also wishes that we hadn't invited him to join us. To be honest we didn't; he invited himself. "This isn't a proper meal. This, this is just, this is disgusting slop!" he exclaims while poking his stew with his fork.
I look around nervously, then leans forward to whisper yell at him, "Shut up before an orderly comes over and drugs you!"
He looks at me as if he's looking over his cheaters, "I'd like to see them try."
I roll my eyes and sit back in my seat. This kid is something else. He continues complaining about our meal for tonight, but I tune him out to watch an unfamiliar woman in an Emergency uniform grab a plate of food before walking out.
"I thought that they didn't eat what we ate?" Anna observers this peculiar woman.
"They don't." I speak plainly.
"What're you two on about?"
We stop gawking and lock eyes with him. I lick my lips as I look around. This kid is probably useless to us, but from the looks of things he seems like he wants an edge to him. Maybe something adventurous.
I look at him again, "You seem like an upper class kid. Probably born with a golden spoon in your mouth." he rolls his eyes at my statement, but he lets me finish, "What's old money like you doing here?"
