Chapter 29: We Need A Plan
"Rachel. How was it in the Asylum?" My father asked me.
"Why didn't you ask Andrew first?" I thought they were close now. Since he's so relaxed right now.
"He already told me."
"When?"
"A few days ago," Andrew answered like it was no big deal.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
He smirked, "you never asked."
"What happened at the Asylum, Rachel?" My father asked again.
I took a few deep breaths. "The first week was like hell." I pictured it like I was going through it again. "I was crying every day. Wishing I could go home, begging," I remember seeing Malcolm in front of me as I cried. He was one of the doctors there. "I would get beaten for just crying. If I wasn't crying I would get attacked by the patients." I had a few scratches and bruises every week.
"I began fighting back. They stopped messing with me... every day. It turned into every other day. That went on for a while." I added.
"People were starting to fear me. I was given my own room but I was forced to take random medications in the morning, before lunch sometimes at night. Just because I told them to stop touching me in certain areas." I smiled at the thought of the doctors and nurses getting mad at me getting used to the medications they gave me.
"Two years go by and I met Bennett." I can see him holding himself as we walked around the place with a scared look on his face. "He would barely talk to anyone. One day he was being attacked by Lance Maoz."
My father looked confused, "why does that name sound familiar?"
"His father Murdered two dozen people in the hospital for firing him. He was in the asylum for trying to do the same to his school for suspending him."
My father clapped his hand after I explained who he was. "Emanuel Maoz. That's his father's name. His other son was just sent there over two weeks ago."
"What did he do?" Andrew asked.
"They said he killed his mother."
"Did he?" I asked as I crossed my arms. That's an issue we'll pick on after I'm finished.
"But anyway." I continued with my story. "I saved him. He thanked me and went on with his life. After about three months the staff there began doing experiments on him. They told him it was medicine he needs but he didn't. They said he was going insane or bipolar."
I remembered hearing him screaming. "He later lost himself mentally. They tried to drug him again but I stopped them and I was drugged instead. When I came to he was at my door and never left my side. He kept calling me his Queen. He would go crazy randomly but I would always calm him down."
From the side of my eye, I saw Andrew looking mad for some reason. "Another year goes by and Adria and Donner kept trying to kill me or just attack me. Ben wouldn't let that happen. That same year I was somehow the leader of the South building and became the most feared person there. I had so much anger. Doctors and patients using me every day. Being drugged for no reason. I couldn't take it. So when I wanted to I would attack before they attack me."
"This went on for some time. It was like every four days I would get 'fixed.' The food was terrible. I watched people die because of the food, Medications, and fights. I also watched people get raped by the staff. Patients slaughtering each other like the hunger games and the staff not caring until it was over."
I remember hearing this from Beth, "Fights gave them a reason to drug you. Once you finish killing the person, the staff used the dead body as test subjects or just play with them." I remember seeing a seven-year-old cutting her own throat.
"Some committed suicide." She was a nice girl always wanted to help people even if they just attacked her or not. Giving her food away to people that needed it. "I watched a few storms pass the building. I was outside when it happened. They didn't care if I was safe or not." The place smelled horrible, "they didn't care about Hygiene either. Some of the patients were getting pregnant by the doctors. Some were forced to abort them others were forced to have them."
"This happened for years. The only difference was that this year they added a lot more people. I'm just glad we escaped before I had to deal with them."
My father looked shocked to hear all of this. I mean we told him prison would have been better. I guess he thought we were joking.
"Your mother..... She told me this place was safe. Safer than a bomb shelter."
" We told you," Andrew said still looking mad.
"Why would she do this?" He looked to be in disbelief.
"Because she never wanted a kid. Period point blank." I said as I thought if that bitch.
"What do you mean by that?" He asked again confused.
Has he seriously not noticed? "When I was little. Every time you would leave and go to work she would forget she even had a kid. She never feed me or checked on me when I got hurt or not. I would always go outside and spend my time at the toy store or at the police station."
"You two argue a lot and she treats Rachel like crap since she got back. Why are you still with her? Can't you see what's going on here?" Andrew asked.
"She tried to hurt me every day. She's trying to send me back to the Asylum. She blames me for everything since I was like two and we always fight. You two fought every day when I was little too." I said almost getting up from my seat.
"We've been trying to work things out but things seemed to be getting worse." My father leans back in his chair.
"Have you been doing all the work or she has?" Andrew asked.
"I am. I would do anything to keep her happy." He didn't hesitate when answering.
Why? Why do all of this for her?
"Has she done anything to make you happy?" I asked him.
He was smiling a lot when we were together but when he was with the devil I rarely see it.
"No." He answered. His voice was low but I could hear him.
"Then why stay with her?" Both Andrew and me asked at the same time.
He looked at the ceiling deep in thought. This went on for a moment. We then heard the front door open and someone giggling. My father quickly stood up and walked out of his office. Andrew and I followed. Standing there was my drunk ass mother with a glass in her hand.
"WHAT?' She yelled at us.
"I want a divorce." He said as he looked at her.
Her eyes widen and she let go of her glass. Letting it shatter on the ground.
"What?" She screamed.
Best birthday present ever.
.....
The next morning.
Andrew, My father and I were in the kitchen talking. The devil lady was staying at a hotel.
"We have to shut that Asylum down. But we need proof that the place is not good." My father said.
Andrew pointed to me and him, "Were all the proof you need."
I pushed his hand away, "No we need more."
"Then what about Emberly's Diary?" Andrew points to the book on the table.
"That's not enough. We need something big." My father arms were now on the table as he rests his head in his hands.
I had an idea, "Why don't I go back?"
Both Andrew and my father looked at me like I said something crazy.
"Why the hell would I let you do that?" Andrew said with a confused look on his face.
"We need proof. What better way to get it then from inside it." I explained.
"No, we are not going back," Andrew said as he picked up Embers diary.
"We? I'm going back. Not you."
"Rachel, I don't want to put you in any more danger." My father grabbed my hand.
"I've already been there for ten years. I'm used to it," I said to him.
"If you go. I'm going too," Andrew said crossing his arms.
"I said I'm going. I can handle myself." Why isn't anyone listening to me?
"I'm not letting you go in there alone." He said not caring if I was getting mad or not. And I was.
"If you go then I will have to keep an eye on you again, No," I said not backing down.
For a while, we argued. In the end, I was going but I could only go if Andrew went with me and a few cops were undercover.
