Chapter 1

(Bold= Na'vi Language)

(Italics= Jake or Me narrating)

*My POV*

"When I was lying there in the VA Hospital, with a big hole blown through the middle of my life. I started having these dreams of flying with a girl, boy and Izzy." Jake explains

"While I had the same dream, flying with the girl, boy and Jake." I explained.

"I was free." Jake said.

"But sooner or later, though, you always have to wake up." We both said.

Jake was seen waking up in a tube. I was not to far from him and also woke up.

"In Cryo you don't dream at all. It doesn't feel like six years. More like a fifth shot of Tequila and an ass-kicking." Jake said.

The Cryo chambers opened slowly, bring my best friend Jake Sully, and myself Isabella Augustine or Izzy out, making our bodies levitate due to the lack of Gravity.

"Tommy and I were the scientist, not me. Tommy and I wanted to get shot light years out into space to find the answers." I explained softly.

A body floated above ours, they were wearing scrubs and began checking over us.

"Are we there yet?" Jake asked curiously.

"Jake, stop acting like we're kids again." I said.

"Yeah, we're there, sunshines." The doctor smiled down at us. "We're there."

*3rd POV*

In a flashback, Jake remembered how he had gotten himself into this position. While Izzy already had the position.

"It's about your brother." The first agent said as his voice echoed. The Coroner pulled back the zipper and on a black body bad, revealing Tommy Sully, Jake's identical twin brother. His body was pale, cold and still, inside the box awaiting identification and cremation.

Jake stared at the body of his brother sadly.

"So, a week before Tommy and Izzy's gonna ship out, a guy with a gun ends his journey for the paper in his wallet." Izzy narrated for Jake.

The cardboard box was closed after his body was covered back up.

*My POV*

We were let go as we floated around.

"You've been in Cryo for Five years, Nine months, and 22 days." The Doctor shouted, floating around in the zero gravity, helping patients from their Cryogenic containers. "You will be hungry. You will be weak. If you feel nauseous, please use the sacks." The man pleaded.

Jake and I floated away from our chamber and up to the locker that said T. Sully on the outside of it. I went to find mine that said I. Augustine.

"Yeah, Tommy and Izzy was the scientists. Me, I'm just another dumb grunt going someplace he's gonna regret. Up ahead was Pandora. You grow up hearing about it, but I never figured I'd be going there." Jake said.

"Well, I was already going here, I studied with Tommy, so I was already going to come here." I said.

*3rd POV*

"You're brother represented a significant investment. We'd like to talk to you about taking over his contract." The second agents in the flash back replied to Jake as his voice echoed.

"And since your genome is identical to his, you could step into his shoes, so to speak." The first agent's voice echoed as he fixed his wording realizing it was insensitive as Jake was watching the Coroner load the box into the cremation chamber.

"It'd be a fresh start on a new world." Agent two explained trying to rope him in as his voice echoed.

And the pay is good." Agent one grinned, looking at Jake, a man who was a war veteran, stuck in a wheelchair due to his spinal injury from the war. "Very good." His voice kept echoing.

*My POV*

A large jet descended from the ship, down onto the planet of Pandora. Carrying mainly new recruited soldiers due to the loss of life sustained on Pandora that was occurring daily.

"Exo-packs on! Let's go! Exo-packs on! Let's go!" The Chief shouted to all the recruits.

"Exo-packs on! Let's go!" The assistant yelled after handing them out.

Each of the people on board now held a device in their hands, a face shield of sorts, that locked under their chins, allowing them to breathe the toxic Pandora air.

"Remember, people, you lose that mask, you're unconscious in 20 seconds, you're dead in four minutes!" The Venture Star Crew Chief relayed to the recruits. "Let's not have nobody be dead today! Looks very bad on my report!"

"Might as well let them die then." I mumbled to Jake who chuckled.

"Hell's Gate Tower, this is TAV 1-6 on approach. Crossing outer marker. Mine is in sight." The pilot relayed over the radio as they began their descent.

The large aircraft crossed over a massive hole in the ground known as the mine, with large trucks and machinery inside busily working away, tearing apart the landscape. I looked out the window and my heart and head immediately began to hurt. Like I was connected somehow.

They were searching of the stone they were looking for. The air craft made it to the large, heavily guarded base landing on the ground. Jake and I placed the masks on our faces and waited for the other recruits to move first. Just because I could walk on both of my legs, doesn't mean I'm leaving my best friend behind.

"One life ends, another begins." Jake thought to himself. Jake took a deep breathe.

I looked out the window I felt the presence of the Great Mother Ewya with me. I was confused. Why was she with me? I'm human not a Na'vi.

"Harnesses off! Get your packs!" The Chief commanded. Jake and I along with the others undid our buckles. "Put it together, let's go! Let's go! One minute! When that ramp comes down, go directly into the base. Do not stop! Go straight inside. Wait for my mark!" The back gate door began to open revealing the outside world to us. "All I heard was nonsense." I whispered to Jake as he chuckled again.

"Go, go, go, go, go! Get out there! Keep moving! Let's go, let's go!" The Chief demanded.

Jake and I watched the other recruits file in a line up towards the building once everyone was clear of us, he took out his wheelchair and pulled his body over into it, adjusting his thin legs onto the seat, me helping him of course. He and I are best friends after all...and maybe more one day.

"There's no such thing as an ex-marine. You may be out, but you never lose the attitude. I told myself I could pass any test a man could pass." Jake narrated as he tossed the bag up onto his shoulders. preparing to leave the ship with me.

Oh, right. I went to Avatar training, but that doesn't mean I didn't build my strength up, so if any guy flirts with me, I'm gonna beat their asses.

"Let's go, special case! Do not make me wait for you!" The Chief yelled back to Jake. "Sweetheart~" He eyed me. Jake began rolling himself forward in the wheelchair and down the ramp.

I gave the Chief a death glare and followed him.

"Well, well, well ladies." Corporeal Lyle eye'd the new recruits as they jogged by him and his partner towards the building. "Look at all this fresh meat! Whoo!"

"Back on Earth, these guys were Army Dogs, Marines, fighting for freedom." Jake explained as we looked around the base.

There were hundreds of soldiers, jogging around in groups, vehicles hustling about, even large robot like machines manned by a single person inside it. They called them an Ampsuit. Everyone was heavily armed, and Jake rolled out of the way of the Ampsuit machine as I moved out of the way following Jake.

"Look out, hot rod! Sweet cheeks!" The man yelled down from the suit.

I growled lowly.

"But out here they're just hired guns, taking the money, working for the company." I explained.

"Check this out, man." Private Fike, Corporeal Lyle's partner said as Lyle watching the other recruits. "Meals on wheels and a hot chick." He snickered, referring to the incoming Jake and me. Jake growled silently when he heard what he called me.

"Oh, man that is just wrong." Lyle said as he shook his head seeing him in the wheel chair.

I glared at them with a death glare and they froze.

Jake rolled to stop as I stopped walking as one of the large RDA trucks rolled in, allowing it to pass by us. The vehicle was about 3 times the size of a man, who would only be standing only as tall as one of the tires. On those giant tires, were wooden arrows with colorful feathers on the end of them. Jake and I looked at the damage curiously and then headed back towards the inside.

"You're not in Kansas anymore." Colonel Miles Quaritch stated, walking up the aisle of the room filed with new recruits. "You're on Pandora, ladies and gentlemen. Respect that fact every second of everyday. If there is a Hell, you might wanna go there some R&R after a tour on Pandora. Out there, beyond that fence, every living thing that crawls, flies or squats in the mud wants to kill you and eat your eyes for Jujubes." He turned and revealed his face as Jake rolled into the room and I walked with him.

People say I attract men easily, with how beautiful I look, and I believe them, I just want to punch every men I come across that calls me a name.

The man had short military haircut, silvery hair, and a large three striped scar across his face.

'I wonder how he got that....to bad he didn't die from it.' I thought as I leaned against a table next to Jake.

"We have an indigenous population of humanoids called the Na'vi." Quaritch mentioned.

I perked up at this, and had a small smile. That is what I came here for, to become an Avatar and get accepted by the Na'vi.

"They're found of arrows dipped in a neurotoxin that'll stop your heart in one minute." He relayed to the troops.

'Serves them right. You're the one tearing apart their home.' I thought.

"And they have bones reinforced with naturally occurring carbon fiver. They are very hard to kill. As head of Security, it is my job to keep you alive. I will not succeed. Now with all of you. If you wish to survive, you need to cultivate a strong mental attitude. You got to obey the rules. Pandora rules. Rule number one!"

"There's nothing like an old school safety brief to put your mind at ease." Jake explains.

The safety briefing let out after a long boring spiel from the Colonel and Jake began to wheel himself up the hallway along the others with me following him. A tall, lanky man, with dark brown hair chased after the group.

"Excuse me, excuse me. Jake! Izzy!" He called out after us. He ran forward and made it to the side of me, and began walking alongside us. "You're Jake, right? Tom's brother. Wow, you look just like him." He said in awe, gazing at Jake's face.

I nudged Norm. "Dude, introduce yourself."

"Sorry, I'm Norm Spellman. Went through Avatar training with Tommy and Izzy." He introduced himself and they shake hands.

"Uh-huh." Jake raised his eyebrow at Norm.

Norm cleared his throat. "Would you like to see where we'll be working?"

"I've been wondering about that all day, Norm." I said excitedly.

"Uh, yeah. Sure." Jake nodded.

"In the Biolab." Norm chuckled after the three of us had walked and strolled to the large lab where they'd be working. "We're gonna spend a lot of time up here. Hey! How you doing? Norm, Avatar driver." He introduced himself to the workers that were bustling around. "Uh, Link room? Here's the link room right here."

I immediately noticed Jake get uneasy and put my hands on his shoulders. He smiled at me and I smiled back. Our friendship was strong and it will stay that way...or it may fade into something more.

Even when Jake had no training in this and I did, we were still the best of friends.

"This is where we're connecting to the Avatar." Norm explained, but once he turned to look back at Jake and I, he realized we were no longer right behind him.

Jake and I had adventured off to the side, seeing three large tanks filled with bule liquid inside floating about, like babies in the womb, were 3 adult looking creatures. Two of them were male and the other was female. Blue skinned and long black hair that was already tied back in braids, with a large tail that had hair on the tip.

"Me, Izzy and Norm are here to drive these remotely controlled bodies called Avatars. And they're grown from human DNA mixed with the DNA of the Natives." Jake explained.

"Hey! Hey, welcome. Welcome to Pandora." A man named Dr. Max Patel greeted the three of us as we admired the Avatars. "Good to have you here, especially a beautiful young woman like you." He said to me smiling.

I smiled back, he was the first men that didn't call me a nickname.

"Hey." Norm greeted him happily, going right towards the Avatar that looked very much like him.

I went towards mine, as I noticed the arms of my Avatar was covering my chest and my legs were covering my middle. I smiled at that. My avatar looked very much like me, and my hair was braiding very nicely. I was happy.

"Damn." Jake chuckled. "They got big."

"Yeah, they fully matured on the flight out." I explained happily. "So the proprioceptive sims seem to work really well."

"Yeah, they've got great muscle tone." Max agreed, with a nod and a smile. "It'll take us a few hours to get them decanted, but you guys can take them out tomorrow." Max explained and Norm grinned widely with a small chuckled escaping his lips. He was really excited.

I groaned. "You've gotta be fucking kidding me." I mumbled. "I've waited all my life for me to see through the eyes of the Na'vi, I don't want to wait."

"There's yours." Max pointed to the last tube and blue creature.

Jake turned his wheelchair and rolled himself over to it as Norm introduced himself to the other Dr.'s. I came over to Jake. Jake eye'd the creatures legs, seeing them jerk and move around like they were supposed to, before he headed on up towards his Avatar's head. He stared at the face seeing the long animal like nose, the pointed Na'vi ears. The hair on the Avatar was black, espied his own dirty blond hair. It was braided back, nearly down to the creature's ass.

"Looks like him." Jake said noticing the presence of me, Norm and Max behind him.

"No, it looks like you." Norm chuckled slightly, comforting the new recruit. "This is your Avatar now, Jake."

I bent down next to him. "Jake, you were destined for this, just like I was. We'll get through this together. Friends till the end?" I asked.

Jake smiled at me and put his forehead on mine. "Friends till the end." He said.

We smiled, as our foreheads touched. People would mistaken us as a couple, but we're just best friends...but maybe more one day.

"And the concept is that every driver is matched to his or her own Avatar, so that their nervous systems are in tune....or something..." Jake sighed as he spoke into a camera on the computer he sat in front of. "Which is why they offered me the gig, because I can link with Tommy's Avatar. Which is insanely expensive...Is that right?" He turned towards Dr. Max, Norm and I.

"I just say whatever to the video log?" Jake asked. "Yeah, we gotta get in the habit of documenting everything. You know, what we see, what we feel. It's all a part of the science." Norm explained.

"Norm, Jake isn't the science type of guy." I explained.

Jake smiled at me than turned back around and scratched his neck uncomfortably.

"Hey, and good science is good overserving." Max pointed out.

"Plus, it'll help keep you sane for the next six years." Norm chuckled.

"I will hit the both of you, I will not hesitate." I said to Norm and Max.

"All right. Whatever..." Jake sighed and adjusted the camera. "So uh. Well, here I am, doing science..."

"Doing science my ass Jake." I said as I heard him laugh.

(Time skip)

"They're coming out!" One of the male scientists yelled out. Norm, Max, Jake and I entered the link room, hearing the call and the machines shutting down.

"Attention. Driver's coming out of the link." A woman announced over the P.A System.

One of the large white link pods opened up revealing Grace Augustine herself. That's my mother.

She sighed and ran her hand through her hair.

Oh, god." She sighed and groaned. "Who's got my god damn cigarette?" Mom lifted her legs over the side of the pod as she sat up. "Guys! What's wrong with this picture? Thank you!" Mom said harshly as the assistant ran over with her lab coat and cigarettes.

"Grace Augustine is a legend." Norm gushes as they headed inside the Link room. "She's the head of the Avatar Program. She wrote the book, I mean literally wrote the book on Pandoran Botany."

"Well, that's 'cause she likes plants better than people." Max chuckled quietly. "Here she is, Cinderella back from the ball. Grace, I'd like you to meet Norm Spellman, Jake sully, and Isabella or Izzy. She hadn't said her last name yet." Max introduced us.

"Norm. Izzy." Mom said, removing her glasses from her face, releasing a breathe of smoke. "I hear good things about you two. How's your Na'vi?"

"May the All Mother smile upon our first meeting." Norm stated proudly and formally.

"It's really great. It's nice to see you again Mama." I said easily and smiling.

"Not bad, you sound a little formal." Grace spoke easily. Than she turned to me and smiled. "It's good to see you again, my sweet daughter."

"I studied for five years, but there is much to learn." Norm said bashfully and was surprised to know I was her daughter.

"Grace?" Max interrupted our Na'vi conversation and gestured to Jake. "This is Jake Sully."

"Ma'am." Jake held out his hand to shake hers. Oh, but little does he know my mother don't give two shits.

"Yeah, yeah. I know who you are, and I don't need you. I need your brother." Mom said abruptly refusing to put out her own hand. Jake's slowly retracted back to himself. "You know, the PhD who trained for three years for this mission?"

"He's dead." Jake frowned at her rudeness. "I know it's a big inconvenience for everyone." Jake said sarcastically. I lightly hit his shoulder.

"How much lab training have you had?" Mom asked roughly, seeing how she wasn't used to being back talked like that.

"I dissected a frog once." Jake answered her seriously. Mom looked at Max wide eyed.

"You see? You see? I mean, they're just pissing on us without even the crusty of calling it rain. I'm going to Selfridge." Mom rolled her eyes and turned away.

"No, Grace!" Max went after her. "I don't think this is a good idea..."

"No, man. This is such bullshit!" Mom huffed and stormed off. "I'm gonna kick his corporate butt. He has no business sticking his nose in my department.

"Here tomorrow, 0800. Try and use big words." Max walked back and whispered to Jake, defeated.

"And my mothers pissed." I said.

Max and Jake snapped their heads to me. "That's you're mother?!"

I nodded.

*3rd POV*

In one of the main hangers of the base, it was filled with people working hard, overviewing digital landscapes of Pandora. Some of the workers connected to the aircrafts, landing and allowing the take off from the base for the planes, jets and helicopters. The man named Parker Selfridge, stood in the center on a small straight away golf course, practicing his putting when Grace stomped in.

"Mhm! You see that?!" Parker laughed as he putted the ball perfectly into the mug that laid at the end of the hole.

"Yes sir!" The man replied at the desk beside Parker.

"No you didn't You were looking at the monitor." Parker said as he chuckled as he went to retrieve his ball. "I love this putter, Ronnie. I love this putter."

"Parker!" Grace called out as she walked up to him. "You know, I used to think it was benign neglect, but now I see that you're intentionally screwing me." She said agitated. "Grace, you know, I enjoy our little talks." Parker said as he sighed as he putted the ball. Grace kicked the mug away from the other side which caused him to miss.

"Oops." She said sarcastically and shrugged. "I need a researcher. Not some jarhead drop out."

"Well, actually, I thought we got lucky with him. And you're lucky you have your daughter here." Parker explained simply, going to fix his mug.

"Lucky?" Grace scoffed.

"Yeah." Parker said. "How is this in any way lucky?" Grace asked with a deep frown.

"Well, lucky your guy had a twin brother, and lucky that brother wasn't some oral hygienist or something. A Marine we can use. And you're daughter is going to help him." Parker explained, giving up on his putt work for now. "I'm assigning them to your team as security escort."

"The last thing I need is another trigger happy moron out there!" Grace exclaimed angrily, talking about Jake, not her darling daughter Izzy.

"Look, look, you're supposed to be winning the hearts and the minds of the natives." Parker rolled his eyes, working on one of the digital holograms of the planet. "Isn't that the whole point of your little puppet show? If you look like them and talk like them, they they'll start trusting us. We build them a school, we teach them English, but after what? How many years? Relations with the indigenous are only getting worse."

"Yeah, that tends to happen when you use machine guns on them!" Grace scoffed angrily.

One could only guess that she was thinking back to that dreadful day, losing so many of her students, Sylwanin, the princess, and the many other Na'vi lives the RDA had taken against the Native people. And that's the day her 'daughter' Izzy was sent back to Earth.

"Right. Come here." Parker chewed his bottom lip, biting back his words.

He led her over into his office mumbled about her. He grabbed a piece of rock from off his desk and showed it to her for probably the millionth time. "This is why we're here. Unobtainium. Because this little gray rock sells for 20 million a kilo. That's the only reason. It's what pays for the whole party. It's what pays for your science. Comprendo? Now, those savages are threatening our whole operation, we're on the brink of war, and you're supposed to be finding a diplomatic solution. So, use what you've got and get me some results."

Grace knew that she couldn't fight back, or she'd risk her whole operation being taken down. She was the only thing that stood in the way of the full out war breaking out between the company and the Na'vi. She was afraid that they wouldn't stand a chance against the RDA and their arsenal of weapons. So, she sighed and reluctantly left the office, biting her tongue. If only she had a way back in with the Na'vi people.

(Time skip)

*My POV*

The next morning Jake, Norm and I showed up in the link room ready to work. The Avatars had been taken from their tanks and placed in the hospital room to be monitored. Workers cleaned the tanks as Jake, Norm and I watched from the outside, until Mom gathered the three and brought them to their respective stations. "So, how much link time have you logged?" Mom asked Norm quickly.

"Uh, about 520 hours." Norm explained.

"That's good." Mom nodded surprised. "You're in there. You're here, and you're there my sweet daughter." Mom pointed to three pods, Norm taking the first one, Jake taking the second one and me taking the third one. "How much link time have you logged?" Mom asked Jake.

"Zip. But I read a manual." Jake answered her simply. Mom was typing codes and prepping the link pod and slowly turned around looking down at the ex-marine in disbelief.

"Tell me you're joking." Mom asked almost pleadingly.

"This is cool." Jake chuckled as he pressed his finger's into the cool gel that lined the inside of the pod to lay on.

"Let's go." Norm and I said excitedly. We climbed into our pods and shut ourselves inside.

*3rd POV*

Jake lifted himself, using his arms, into the pod. Turning his body and sitting on the cool gel. He adjusted himself for a second, and Grace went to help lift his feet.

"Don't." Jake said sternly. "I got this." He lifted his own feet and placed them into the pod. Grace lifted her hands defensively and went back to the monitor for Jake's pod.

"So you just figured you'd come out here, to the most hostile environment known to man, with no training of any kind whatsoever, and see how it went?" Grace asked him seriously. "What was going through your head?"

"Maybe I was sick of Doctors telling me what I couldn't do, plus I couldn't leave my best friend going here alone." Jake said smugly and turned to look at Grace.

Grace turned and looked at him with a raised brow. She wasn't so sure she liked the mouth on this kid.

"Biometrics look good." The link scientist said as she monitored the screen.

"Link three is ready." Max stated through the com link to Jake's pod.

"Keep your arms in, hands in, head down." Grace lightly pushed his head down as he tried to look at the metal piece of hardware that covered him inside the pod.

"Down." Grace repeated and pushed Jake's head down again, locking the mechanism into place. "Just relax and let your mind go blank. That shouldn't be hard for you." Grace began to close the pod door.

"Kiss the darkest part of my lily white ass...." Jake chuckled as the door closed on him.

He was left inside the pod as it moved back into position.

"Initiate link." Grace commanded. "Run sequence unit three. Go." Max told the other scientists. Max clicked a few buttons on his screen and pulled up a hologram on Jake's skull.

"Launching." The link tech said.

Jake looked around the dark pod, only seeing the dim lights from the metal mechanism. that laid over his body. Lights on the screens outside the pod began to light up showing bits of his brain activity connecting to the link.

"I have the first congruency." The link tech stated.

Max moved the hologram onto a travel tablet and monitored Jake's activity alongside Grace.

"That's a gorgeous brain." Max complimented. "Nice activity."

"Hmm." Grace crossed her arms. "Go figure."

They stood side by side, viewing the Avatar's through a large viewing window into the hospital monitoring room. Izzy's Avatar sat up before Norm and Jake's did.

"Phase lock, 40%."

Jake began to stay still inside the pod and closed his eyes.

"All right, I'm going in." Grace said as she patted Max's shoulder and left the window. "I'm going in on five."

"Phase lock, 99%. Link is stable." The link scientist stated.
