Chapter 9
*My POV*
The next morning, everything was peaceful and perfect. I was asleep in Tsu'tey, Jake and Neytiri's arms. Our position had changed, with Tsu'tey and Jake behind me, and Neytiri in front of me, arms draped over my side and my head on their arms like a pillow.
Their heads gently resting on mine. Until I felt a shooting pain through my soul. I gasped and opened my eyes quickly, Tsu'tey shot up with me. Neytiri also woke up, but Jake didn't. We hear the sounds of peeping, meaning RDA machinery was close. The pain stung again, even worse this time and I screamed in pain.
The three of us quickly got up and looked behind us to see through the trees were giant bulldozers coming straight for us. Tearing down any trees in their path. The pain was the worse I had ever felt and I sobbed seeing the Ancient Trees of Voices being torn down.
We looked down at Jake's peaceful sleeping body and Neytiri began to shake him desperately with both hands. I clutched my stomach.
"Jake!" Neytiri cried out through her tears as we tried to help her. "Ma Jake, please! Wake up!" Neytiri and Tsu'tey begged.
"Come on, Jake! Now's not the time to talk!" I begged as I cried out in pain, as Tsu'tey and Neytiri tried to sooth me, but it didn't work with all the destruction.
"Don't forget your phase interrogation." Norm said to human Jake as he climbed into the pod, preparing the monitors himself to link back to his Avatar. "No, no, the middle button." He explained as he wheelied himself in Jake's wheelchair.
"Jake!" Grace called out to him. "You gotta eat something." She walked around the corner with a plate and a glass for him.
"Yeah, there ya go." Norm nodded.
"Jake! Jake, wake up! Jake, please!" Neytiri begged, as I cried, but it was clear he wasn't coming too any time soon. The bulldozers were approaching and we weren't about to let them run him over. So we stood up and wrapped our arms under his and began to pull him backwards with us.
"Don't make me fore feed a cripple." Grace chuckled alongside Jake and Norm.
"Grace, I don't want...Hey!" Jake protested as she shut down the pod machine. He wanted noting more than to return to his body and get back to Neytiri, Tsu'tey and me.
Trees began to fall around us and I grunted, bending down in pain and a tree fell, nearly falling onto Tsu'tey's legs, but he held me up as he was worried for me, the three of us focused on Jake for now. We pulled with all our strength we had in us trying to get him to safety.
Jake sat on the pod and scarfed down the scrambled eggs Grace had made him. She chuckled watching him eat.
There was a large trunk on the ground and Neytiri and Tsu'tey forced myself first, before reaching back down and grabbing Jake's arm, pulling his body as hard as she could up towards theirs. If he didn't wake up soon, we'd all be dead. The bulldozers approached closer and closer, knocking down everything in their path.
I panicked seeing the machines coming, but even more so seeing the Ampsuits, carrying large guns and soldiers walking alongside them on the ground.
"Jake, Jake. Please!" I hissed as Neytiri and Tsu'tey grabbed his belt and pulled.
Jake swallowed down the milk and handed the plate and cup back to Grace. Norm began setting up the link monitors again.
"Here, I'm done." Jake said quickly. "Let's go."
"And when was the last time you took a shower?" Grace asked as he laid down in the pod. She lifted his shirt and scrunched her nose.
"I don't need a shower!" Jake said.
"Jesus, Marine." Grace rolled her eyes at his impatience.
He quickly covered himself with the metal machinery and started to close the pod.
"JAKE!" Neytiri screamed desperately. "Jake, wake up! Jake! Wake up!" Neytiri said, as I cried. Neytiri shook him hard and his eyes finally opened. Tsu'tey held me close and away from the destruction.
He looked at us confused until he saw a tree falling behind us. Quickly, Jake stood to his feet and him and Tsu'tey pulled Neytiri and I behind them, moving all of us off to the side as the tree fell.
Jake left Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I and ran forward towards the large machine and our eyes widen. "Jake!" I called to one of my mates. Jake jumped up and down waving his arms in the air. "Hey!" He shouted, trying to gain their attention. "Stop! Stop!"
I cried out in pain as more of the sacred trees fell. Jake, Tsu'tey and Neytiri turned to me and looked horrified, before Jake tried again.
"Jake!" Neytiri cried out for him as I cried in Tsu'tey and Neytiri's arms as they held me.
"Go back, stop!" Jake screamed.
A camera rotated on the top of the bulldozer and looked down at Jake, Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I, showing up on the control screens.
"Hey, boss." The man called out to Parker from the Hell's Gate base. Remotely controlling the dozer from there. He stopped moving the dozer and waited as Parker walked over to him.
"What?" Parker asked.
"I got a native doing the funky chicken here. He's blocking my blade."
Parker leaned down and looked at the monitor. "Well, keep moving. He'll move." Parker, shrugged, talking with his mouth full. "These people have to learn that we don't stop. Come on. Go, go, go." He moved the control for him and the bulldozer started up again.
"Tsu'tey, Neytiri, it hurts! Everything hurts!" I cried out.
"We know, love. We know." Tsu'tey shushed me as he held me in his arms, as Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I worried for Jake, but we all gasped as the dozers continued to move again. We all fell backwards. Jake jumped back up as a tree came down towards us, Tsu'tey and Jake grabbed mine and Neytiri's arms, hoisting us up with them. "Go, run!"
I held Neytiri and Tsu'tey's hands as Neytiri held Jake's as we all ran through the trees.
"There, see? He moved." Parker pointed out.
"Go, guys. Keep running and don't stop." Jake stopped us all quickly and kissed mine, Tsu'tey, Neytiri's foreheads real fast. He left us again and ran straight back towards the bulldozers and we gasped, Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I wanting to go after him.
We quickly decided against it and I ran through the pain with them, through the forest trying to stay away from the upcoming dozers. I made it a little ways and stopped in hopes to wait for one of my mates. Tsu'tey and Neytiri stayed with me. Jake ran back at them and jumped onto the side of the dozer, quickly climbing up the large piece of machinery to the very top.
Angry at the people for causing one of his mates so much pain, for destroying sacred trees, for running what should have been a perfect morning. He took the stone in his hand he had picked up on his way up and began smashing the cameras.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa." The operator said as Jake appeared on the screen, smashing the cameras, making each other screens start to go black. "Dude, dude, no! Aw!" He groaned as the last camera went out. "I'm blind!"
The people on the ground heard the smashing and looked up to see Jake, unknowingly it was him in his Avatar form attacking the dozer. One of the soldiers lifted his gun and began shooting at him. Jake quickly stopped hitting the cameras and ducked down. Leaping off the dozer, crashing into the forest below and running away from the constant gun fire.
Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I closed our eyes trying to feel him. We could feel his heart beating very quickly and we knew he was close. I cried out in pain again, and Tsu'tey held me up. "Breathe, love." He begged.
"Jake!" Neytiri yelled out for him as we looked around.
"Guys!" He called back. We followed the should of his voice and quickly found him, Neytiri quickly jumped into his arms. Tears stained my face. "Come on! Quickly!" Jake ushered us forward and away from the chaos.
Jake, Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I hid in the tree line and I sobbed into Tsu'tey, Neytiri and Jake's chests. While the three of them watched the dozers roll by. Tsu'tey and Jake punched the tree beside us angrily and their other hands stayed wrapped around mine and Neytiri's bodies.
The operator called upon Parker to see what had happened, leading to him grabbing Quaritch as well. They reviewed the last of the footage, showing Jake's Avatar destroying the cameras.
"Freeze it right there." He stated quickly during play back. "Scale up. Enhance."
"Son of a bitch." Parker sighed seeing Jake's face clear as day. "Unbelievable." He scoffed and walked away from the screen. Colonel Quaritch looked immediately pissed off at this revelation and started to walk out of the room barking orders.
"Get me a pilot!" He barked.
"Yes, sir."
Tsu'tey, Neytiri and Jake nearly carried me back to Home Tree as my bones felt like they were on fire and not in a good way. As soon we entered, Stitch and Jasiri gasped and rushing forward, checking me for injuries. Ryan and Skylar reported what they saw and informed Eytukan of the destruction. This was the final straw and created war between the Sky People and the Omatikaya's.
"Skylar and Ryan will lead the war party!" Eytukan demanded.
He raised his staff in the air and the clan yipped and shouted war cries. Skylar and Ryan raised his bow in the air, creating a bigger out cry. Grace ran forward through the people to try and diffuse the situation.
"Calm! Stop, please!" She shouted causing everyone to quiet down and look at her. "This will only make it worse!"
"You do not speak here!" Ryan demanded, pointing the end of his bow at her. "We will strike them in the heart!" Skylar raised her bow above her head again, causing everyone to shout their war cry's.
Neytiri, Jake, and Tsu'tey escorted me through the crowd. My hands were linked proudly with Tsu'tey and Neytiri's as Neytiri held Jake's and as the four of us stepped forward.
"Ryan! Skylar, don't do this!" Jake called out to them. "You!" Ryan and Skylar cried out in anger. They gave their bows to someone else and charged at Jake and me seeing all our intertwined hands, Jake and I quickly let go and put our hands up.
"Listen, brother, sister." Jake and I tried to calm them, but Ryan and Skylar placed their hands on our shoulders and roughly pushed us down to the ground.
"This is your fault!" Ryan yelled at Jake.
"Ryan!/Skylar!" Neytiri and Tsu'tey yelled and stepped in between us placing their hands on their shoulders. The small connection they once had was now gone forever and they knew it.
"You all mated with each other" They exclaimed angrily, their voices breaking near the end.
"Oh, shit." Grace gasped.
"Neytiri, Tsu'tey." Stitch and Jasiri sighed, coming to their sides. They saw the look in their eyes and they weren't mad. They for happy for them.
"Is this true?" Mo'at stepped forward and asked them sternly.
"We are mated before Izzy's mother, Eywa. Her blessing was given. It is done." Neytiri and Tsu'tey stated, standing firmly. Jake and I came up behind them and held our mates' hands.
Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I gave Ryan and Skylar a small sympathetic glance and their bodies quivered in anger and sadness. His breathes uneven.
"Tsu'tey and Neytiri was promised to us!" Skylar and Ryan hissed at Mo'at and Eytukan. "Everything is changing. Everything is being destroyed! These aliens!" Ryan pointed at Grace and Jake. "They kill everything they touch like poison."
"Neytiri, Tsu'tey." Mo'at called out to the. Her voice filled with disappointment. "If you two choose this path. You can never be Tsahik and Olo'eyktan! Your lives will be ruined and wasted!"
Neytiri and Tsu'tey turned and looked at Jake and me, knowing their choice was the right one. Even if they didn't became Tsahik and Olo'eyktan. My mother blessed this relationship and that was all that mattered to us. And being with me and Jake.
"Then so be it. We have chosen him/her under the approval of Eywa." Neytiri and Tsu'tey stated, Neytiri and Tsu'tey placing their hands on mine and Jake's chests. Mo'at sighed and walked towards Eytukan, his head hung in disappointment.
"Brother, sister, please. Do not attack the Sky People." Jake asked of Ryan and Skylar. "Many Omatikaya will die if you do."
Ryan and Skylar's back was turned as they walked away. Quivering in anger after hearing Neytiri and Tsu'tey declarations of love for Jake and I and not them. Hearing Jake's voice sparked something in Ryan. He slowly turned and took out his dagger.
"You are not my brother!" Ryan screamed and ran at Jake.
"No!" Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I yelled. Mo'at, Stitch and Jasiri pulled us away from the fight.
Ryan charged at Jake, but Jake was faster. He shoved Ryan away from him to the ground. Jake pulled out his dagger as Ryan stood back to his feet. Many people around us called out and removed their own daggers.
"Izzy!" Tsu'tey and Neytiri yelled as Skylar ran at me and I dodged as I stood next to Jake and Skylar stood next to Ryan and they both glared at us.
"We are not your enemy!" Jake and I yelled back at them.
Tsu'tey and Neytiri tried to get back to Jake and I, but Eytukan intervened and pulled them back towards Grace, Mo'at, Stitch and Jasiri at their sides. What surprised everyone was the fact that Jake and I threw our daggers down to the ground, leaving us defenseless. This made the other Omatikaya lower their daggers.
"The enemy is out there, and they are very powerful!" Jake shouts.
Norm sat in the camp and looked outside hearing and seeing a helicopter come flying in. Soldiers quickly dropped out and ran towards the doors and he knew there was trouble.
"I can talk to them." Jake tried to explain, knowing I can't. I'm a real Na'vi now, so I can't talk to them. Oh, right. I had four fingers instead of five, like Jake. :)
"No more talk!" Skylar let out a yell and they charged at us again. We spun around each other and Ryan's blade slashed Jake's chest. Tsu'tey and Neytiri fought the leaders hold.
"Skylar!/Ryan!" Tsu'tey and Neytiri yelled out angrily.
They tried to charge at us again, but Jake ran forward, grabbing their arms, kneeing them in the abdomen and punching them in the faces hard. Ryan and Skylar fell to the ground with a grunt. They slowly stood up and wiped their mouths off a little bit and blood that trickled down their chins.
Jake did it for me, because I was still in pain.
"We are Omatikaya." I said.
"We are one of you." Jake breathed heavily. "And I have the right to speak! I have something to say. To all of you." Jake closed his eyes and took deep breathes. When he opened them he faced Neytiri, Tsu'tey and me and we felt our hearts breaking for the sorrow that filled his eyes. "The words are like stones in my heart." He stated gently and we looked at him confused and worried.
Inside the camp they cleared the airlock chamber and charged inside. Colonel Quaritch at the head of the troops. Norm quickly came around the corner to confront them.
"Sir, I'm sorry. No, no, no. Hold on!" Norm desperately tried to keep him out of the link chamber room. "You can't interrupt a link in progress!" Norm was slammed into the wall behind him, as Quaritch pushed through. "This is very dangerous!"
He charged forward and slammed down on the big red stop button on Grace's pod first.
Inside the village Grace suddenly collapsed to the ground. My eyes widen.
"Grace!" Jasiri yelled worriedly. She quickly ran to her and Neytiri and Tsu'tey moved to check on her too. They bent down next to her to see that she still had a pulse.
Jake and I looked at each other with wide eyes. "Oh, no." Jake gasped.
"Wait!" Norm yelled desperately as he was pinned down by a soldier.
"Stay down, sir!"
"Okay, look." Jake said nervously. The button was pressed. "I was sent here too..." His eyes rolled into the back of his head. "Jake!" Neytiri, Tsu'tey and I yelled out worriedly.
Jake's body collapsed to the ground and I rushed to Jake's body and I knew why he collapsed but before I could say anything Ryan and Skylar ran to us. They growled and leapt on top of our bodies and Ryan stuck his dagger underneath Jake's throat, while Skylar had me pinned to the ground with her dagger to my throat. I struggled against Skylar.
"You see? It is a demon in a false body! They deserve to die!" They growled and moved the daggers.
The moment they had stepped over our bodies, anger filled Tsu'tey and Neytiri and they ran at them. Ryan and Skylar moved their daggers to cut mine and Jake's neck, and they jumped onto their backs, tackling them off us. They all hissed and growled at each other as they rolled. Neytiri and Tsu'tey quickly stopped their bodies and Neytiri and Tsu'tey hovered over mine and Jake's bodies with her dagger out protectively. I was laying on my stomach as Tsu'tey and Neytiri hovered over me and Jake.
Neytiri and Tsu'tey barred their teeth and hissed at anyone who tried to come close. Ryan and Skylar stood back up in a crouched position, teeth barred as well. They frowned quickly and huffed at them. Walking around Jake and I in a big circle and away.
Tsu'tey and Neytiri helped me up, and I held onto them with tears, as I still felt pain from the forest being destroyed.
*3rd POV*
Jake gasped as though he was having a heart attack. His pod opened and noticed the soldiers in the room alongside Colonel Quaritch.
"Are you out of your god damn mind?!" Jake yelled as he sat up.
"You crossed a line." Quaritch smirked before punching Jake in face, making him black out. "Wheel the meat out of here."
"Jake! What the hell is going on here?" Grace called out for him. She struggled in the grips of soldiers that weren't supposed to be there.
The three of them were brought back to Hell's Gate base, and once Jake was coherent again, they showed him the footage so he couldn't try to deny what he'd done.
"You let me down, son." Colonel sighed. "So, what you find yourself some local tail and you just completely forget what team you're playing for? Oh, right. You're friends a special piece of tail isn't she?" He smirked and Jake was held back by two soldiers.
"Parker, there is time to salvage this situation. Parker...." Grace explained angrily.
"Shut your pie hole!" Quaritch yelled in her face.
"Or what, Ranger Rick?" Grace scoffed, squaring up with him. "You gonna shoot me?"
"I can do that." Quaritch replied simply.
"You need to muzzle your dog." Grace growled as Parker approached.
"Yeah, can we just take this down a couple of notches, please?" Parker stepped in between them calmly.
"You say you wanna keep your people alive?" Jake spook up. "You start by listening to her." He gestured to Grace.
"Those trees were sacred to the Omatikaya in a way you can't imagine."
"You know what?" Parker scoffed in disbelief. "You throw a stick in the air around here, it's gonna land on some sacred fern, for Christ's sake!" He chuckled angrily.
"I'm not talking about some pagan voodoo here! I'm talking about something very real, something measurable in the biology of the forest."
"Which is what, exactly?" Parker scoffed holding his hands on his hips.
"What we think we know is that there is some kind of electrochemical communication between the roots of the trees. Like the synapses between neurons. And each tree has ten to the fourth connections to the trees around it. And there are ten to the twelfth trees on Pandora." Grace explained passionately.
"Which is a lot, I'm guessing." Parker asked condescendingly.
"It's more connections than the human brain." Grace stepped forward, hoping to have made her case. "Get it? It's a network. It's a global network, and the Na'vi can access it. They can upload and download data. Memories. At sites like the one you just destroyed. Yes!" She said feeling like she got threw to him.
"What the hell have you people been smoking out there?" Parker laughed in her face, shocking Grace and disappointing Jake. "They're just goddamn trees!"
"You need to wake up, Parker." Grace warned.
"No, you need to wake up."
"The wealth of this world isn't in the ground. It's all around us. The Na'vi know that, and they are fighting to defend it. If you want to share this world with them, you need to understand them." Grace pleaded for them to listen to her.
"I'd say we understand them just fine, thanks to Jake here." Quaritch piped back up. He clicked a button on the computer playing back one of his video logs, surprising him, making him worry. "Hey, Doc. Come have a look."
"They're not gonna give up their home. They're not gonna make a deal. F-For what? Lite beer? And blue jeans?" Jake scoffed on the video. "There's nothing that we have that they want. Everything they sent me out here to do is a waste of time. They're never gonna leave Home Tree."
To say Grace was pissed was an understatement. But above all she felt sympathy for Jake. He was only doing what he was bribed to do and she knew it. She saw the loving connection between him, Tsu'tey, Izzy and Neytiri knowing that he would never done this if he had known how things would turn out. But they were worried about how Izzy would react. Grace placed a hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle squeeze as his head lowered to look at his lap.
"So, since a deal can't be made. I guess things get real simple. Jake, thanks. I'm getting all emotional. I must just give you a big wet kiss."
"Parker, we need to talk like rational people!" Grace huffed.
"Uh, yeah. I cherish that. But unfortunately you're out of here on the next shuttle tomorrow. All of you." Parker shook his head and pushed past them. He stopped at the entry way to his office and looked at the group. "I'm shutting down the Avatar program. Effective now."
"You can't do that!" Grace exclaimed.
"These gentlemen will escort you all. And I just did."
