Chapter 1

*Two Years Later*

Simon leaned against a tree playing with his switchblade.

"Don't cut yourself, Simon." Josh warned him. Simon shot him a glare.

"I'm not an idiot." he growled. Simon and Josh have been on the run ever since the day they escaped prison. They're not too sure how widespread the news of them got, or if the police are still searching, but it must of died down by now. They wanted to find a small town that they could settle down in. They had been crossing state borders for two years and it's become tiring. They are currently in Oklahoma. (It doesn't matter if you don't know where that is.)

"Simon you stay out here while I go buy some food." Josh commanded. He went inside a gas, or petrol, station to get some snacks. The station is also a car repair shop. Within three minutes Simon got bored and curiosity took over. He walked around to the back and saw someone underneath an old truck. The person grunted, and pushed themselves back out. To Simon's surprise it was a girl.

"Hello. Can I help you?" she asked. The girl stood up letting Simon take her all in. She had medium length hair as black as the oil smudges on her face. She wasn't too much shorter than him. She was wearing a plain t-shirt and shorts with a plaid shirt tied around her waist.

"Oh, no. I'm just waiting for my friend." Simon explained.

"Okay then." the girl bent over to work on some parts by the engine.

"I just didn't know girls could work on cars like you." Simon leaned against the truck.

"Excuse me? What is that suppose to mean?" she sounded slightly offended.

"Most of the girls I've met don't normally do boy things." Simon replied.

"I don't think you're one to have met many girls besides your mother." she snapped.

"Don't take it the wrong way. I think that's really cool." Simon shrugged.

"Are you trying to flirt with me?" the girl jested. She put her hands on her hips and raised one eyebrow.

"No, why would I want to flirt with you?" Simon's face turned red.

"You're totally flirting with me." she laughed. "When was the last time you had a girlfriend?" she wondered.

"Never." Simon hesitated.

"Ha! Exactly." the girl scoffed. Simon clenched his fists. This girl has no idea what he has been through. His love life is the last thing he's worried about.

"I wouldn't get rude to me if I were you." Simon warned.

"Oh yeah? So what?" she sneered.

"You'll be sorry. You have no idea what I'm capable of." Simon got in her face.

"I think you've got a big words for small actions." she smirked. "Don't mess with me either. If I don't get you my brother and his gang will." The girl twisted her boot into the dirt. This symbolizes the person has some sort of weapon in their shoe.

"You don't believe me?" Simon put his hand in his jacket pocket.

"No. Go on, hurt me. Murder me. You wouldn't." she dared. As easily and tempting it would be for Simon, he knew better. There was no reason to hurt her. "Exactly." she crossed her arms in satisfaction.

"Simon!" His name was called. Simon turned around to see Josh walking up to him with a bag of food in his hand. "Leave the girl alone. Come on." Josh ordered.

"Alright. See you around..." Simon held out the last vowel sound waiting for the girl to say her name.

"I'm not telling you my name." she sassed.

"Well fine! Be a bitch." Simon grumbled. Josh hit Simon's arm. "Ow! What?" he moaned.

"Apologies for my friend here. I'm Josh." he held out his hand.

"Evie." the girl smiled, shaking his hand.

"See you again sometime?" Josh reiterated Simon.

"Maybe." Evie shrugged.

"Now let's go, Simon. Lets not waste anymore time." Josh directed Simon back to the streets.
