Dancing and Desserts
So last Friday I had a show, in which I had two dances, the first one was one of my level's demo dances on pointe and it is a gorgeous dance with beautiful choreography, however us girls where nervous because some of us had problems with our feet and our pointe shoes and a couple other girls had problems just doing the dance itself. Still, I was pretty impressed with how we did, no one fell, slipped or clearly messed up and that's really what matters, right?
The second dance that we did was a character dance from Coppelia and we where all confident in this dance because we learned it a long while ago and where pretty comfortable with the dance and while it was one pointe as well, seeing as it was a character dance, it was a little more about the acting and for long portions of the dance we where just on demi-pointe instead.
Before we even preformed we had two days of rehearsals. They where both full runs and they where pretty tiring. I mean, being stuck at the ballet studio for over four hours can be hard.
The only thing besides dancing that slightly concerned me was the fact that for the character dance had a costume that I had yet to dance in. What we were told to do was to purchase a pair of granny panties which is basically just the bottom piece of your ballet leotard. That then leads into the second problem, we where preforming at our studio and we do not have changing rooms. Being an extremely modest girl that I am, this worried me but luckily everything worked itself out. During one of the dress rehearsals, I found that I was able to situate my costume so that I could remove my leo and put the granny panties on and then I was good. Some of the other girls where not nearly as modest as I and to be fair some of them had very little time to change before the next time they had to be on stage. There was one pointe when the boys had to enter in through our makeshift dressing room and there was a girl who was topless. They bolted out of there covering their eyes and the other times they had to enter our dressing room, they came in covering their eyes and they ran quickly out to the hallway.
So you may be wondering why it was called dancing and desserts. During intermission the audience got to go and enjoy lovely delicacies and desserts. Once the show was over, us girls changed into dresses and headed down. The cake which is pictured above was the dancers cake. It has the names of everyone who preformed and I had to admit that it was pretty special to go down, enjoy desserts and get a slice of cake with my name on it. (You're welcome to guess which name is mine by the way but seeing as there are 45 names, I doubt you'll get it.)
Anyways, as always, have a nice day and just keep dancing! ~Mia
