PRISON BELLS
Four walls with an invisible key
Everything I'll never need
Four walls to call home
Everything I'll always know
Four walls for me and none for you
But if we split them we each get two
And two and two is four you see
Four for you and none for me
They fold into the floor at night
And in the day they stand upright
The roof caves in for all to see
If all had wings and flight-filled dreams
Your trap falls open, my words fall in
The bells sound, the game begins
Symphonies of two and four
And four and two and many more
I boast ice while you claim fire
But none can bend the stone's desire
Wishes break upon the rock
Like glass on granite, like blackboard chalk
They burst apart and float away
Like a hard bend and a runaway train
Our words are powdered ash and bone
Reminding us that I'm alone
Choking me for all to see
Burning like acid, like one plus three
One plus three, now there's a game
But if we split them I'll go insane
Ill fold into the floor you see
You'll die first, then later me
The bells will sound to end the game
No more numbers, no more pain
No more me and no more you
Forever four and never two
• This poem is about feeling trapped, whether it be with yourself or in a bad relationship.
