Chapter 7

It had been a two weeks since Aaron's grandma passed away. Her funeral was held two days after her passing and Aaron hasn't spoken a word since then. His eyes showed no emotion. He hasn't cried once after her passing and I knew that because he had a habit of shutting pain in because that was his way of coping.

He completely closed himself off from everyone and refused to come out of his room and I had seriously had enough of this attitude.

Leaving out a breath I'd been holding, I stood in front of his door. Twisting the knob, I thanked my stars that it was open.

Going inside, I was immediately hit by a stench. Holding my nose, I swatted my hands in front of my face. Aaron had not allowed the housekeeping people to enter his room and he didn't look like he'd taken a bath himself.

I had come here several times a day but with no luck of getting him to speak to me. I don't think I have ever gone this long without speaking to him.

"I thought I said I didn't want anyone to come here!" He said gritting his teeth, pulling his head out of the pillow slightly.

"Aaron!" I exclaimed angrily looking at him.

He stayed silent for a second before putting his face back into the pillow. "Go away," he mumbled.

And you know what I did?

Yes, I stayed!

"No, Aaron. I'm not going anywhere, not till you talk to me," I said defiantly.

Aaron just further dug his head into the pillow.

"How long do you plan on being like this?" I asked him crossing my hands across my chest.

He didn't reply.

Sighing, I walked over to his bed, ignoring the stench since I was an amazing friend. Sitting down near him, I was at a loss as to what to say. I didn't handle grief or loss well myself, how could I advice anybody else? I could only imagine just how much this hurt him. It wasn't fair, but again life is never fair. The only kind of love I knew was tough love. I never knew what to say, but this my best friend, I also knew that I couldn't just walk away. If our places were switched he wouldn't have walked away. He was always there, and he just knew what to say, and I wish I had that skill too. I hated seeing him hurt. I was honestly desperate at this point.

"Aaron, please say something, anything other than 'go away'," I said in a low voice. "You know that I don't know what to say to you. I'm not good at this at all," I continued with tears stinging the back of my eyes. "You can be sad, you can grieve as long as you want to but it's killing me that you're not allowing me to share that with you," I said shutting my eyes tight.

I was greeted with silence that I was expecting. I willed myself not to cry because he needed my strength.

Clutching the sheets in my hand, I lay down beside him. I then threw my hands around his back and hugged him tight. "Please just let me in," I said, my voice cracking at the end. One sided hugs were meant to be awkward but this time it wasn't. It was as if this was exactly what he needed. The second I held him, it felt like that door blocking the pain just flung open and he cried. He cried so much and he cried for so long. I lay there holding him as tightly as I could.

He slowly lifted his head off the pillow and looked at me with swollen, red eyes. Coming closer, he buried his head in my neck as his hands clutched the side of my jumper as he cried more, his tears wetting my sleeve. I put my arms around his shaking shoulders as I shut my eyes letting him let it all out.

After what seemed like forever, his sobs became less violent and his breathing became steady again. I didn't know if he was awake or he had fallen asleep but I would most probably go with the latter.

Slightly moving my head back just enough to see his closed eyes, I removed my hands from around him. I gently pulled his hand away from my jumper he had been holding on to. I guess words weren't my thing. He just needed something to hold on to in order to let go the pain he held on to go.

I moved to the other side of the room where his half unpacked suitcase lay and I quickly gathered up some clothes and a towel. I popped my head inside the bathroom and I left the clothes on the counter, after checking to see if the brush and a toothpaste were at the sink.

I then opened the door as softly as I could and shut it gently while standing in the corridor. I needed to get him some food when he wakes up. I slowly made my way back to my room. Hot noodles was in order.

I made my way to the small makeshift kitchen in my room and kept the water to boil. I then took the time to change my clothes. Once the food was ready, I transferred it into a ceramic bowl and cleaned up quickly.

The corridor was deserted and I quickly checked my phone to see that the time was 2:00 AM. We had been in there for quite some time.

Once I reached Aaron's room, I pushed open the door and entered to see the bed empty. I panicked for a second until I realised that the shower was running so he was in there. Leaving the noodles on the counter, I plopped myself on the bed and rested my face in my hands. Today's been a really long day. I could feel a headache coming up and I internally groaned at the timing. I hadn't slept much at all mostly because I was really worried. I pulled out the earphones that I always had on me and decided to drown myself in the music for a while.

Ironically enough, 'wake me up' by Avicii started playing on the shuffle. Resuming back my position with my face buried in my hands, I took a shaky breath.

The song was just ending when my hands were pulled of my face. My head nearly got detached from my neck, and I almost died there, but it's cool. It's happened many times before. Yup, just counting down days till it actually falls off.

Blinking once or twice I stared up at brown eyes, looking over my face, looking concerned. Aaron was kneeling down in front of the bed, with his head tilted.

He was saying something, I could see his lips moving, but I couldn't hear a thing.

Isn't this the thing they talk about in movies?

Aaron waved his hand in front of my face again but I couldn't come of my first ever 'Hollywood moment'. Looking exasperated, he shook his head before reaching out and pulling out the earphones.

"Hello, earth to Avey!" Aaron said with raised eyebrows, then as if considering his words, he continued, "or you could stay there, it might work well for the world," he muttered.

Dammit, it was the earphones! I didn't have my first ever 'Hollywood moment'.

While I mourned the loss of what never was, he decided to speak up again.

"Okay, I can't figure out if you've not had any sleep these days or you're mind is just off thinking something really weird again," Aaron said, furrowing up his eyebrows. "Or it could also be both," he shrugged.

Normally I would've head butted him just because his face was this close but the fact that he was actually cracking a joke, not that it was funny but still, it made a weight I didn't know I had in my chest, disappear. I didn't reply for five seconds as I just took it in.

"Um, ok Avey, you're doing that creepy smile thing again and I need you to stop, seriously we've talked about this," he said in a condescending tone, with a shake of his head.

"Aaron," I sighed out finally, not knowing what to say.

'Thank god! Finally the moment the world has been waiting for!'

My conscience has made an entry, just fan-freaking-tabulous.

"No, it's Harry Potter," he said with a poker face.

I chuckled before throwing my hands around him, knocking him off the ground. He groaned as we both fell onto the floor.

"God dammit woman! You. Are. Too fat!" He exclaimed while I clutched onto him.

"Shut up Aaron. Don't forget I'm in the perfect position to strangle you! And I will do it!" I muttered into his shirt.

"And she's back," Aaron chuckled, hugging me back. "Wow, you really can't do anything without me, can you?" He said in a light teasing tone.

"Neither can you," I said moving my head way from his shoulder and giving him a smug look.

He thinned his lips before accepting defeat, "Touche," he said.

"We're stuck with each other for life," I sighed out tiredly.

"Wow, ok, don't have to pretend to look to excited about that now," Aaron said as we got off the floor.

"Go eat up, I made you noodles," I said pointing to the bowl on the stand. He looked at it and started making his way over to it when I held on to his hand and pulled him back.

"You are okay right..? You really don't have to pretend if you're not," I said in serious tone. "I will always be here and I'm sorry I'm so bad with words," I said shaking my head and looking at the floor.

I felt him moving closer and he held my face is both his hands, tilting my head up to meet his eyes. "I'm fine, or I will be, I promise," he whispered and I just nodded lightly. "And I'm really sorry, I never wanted to scare you, which I think I did successfully accomplish," he added looking concerned.  I shook my head 'no' to which he chuckled again. "Liar," he said as a laugh escaped my lips too.

"Go eat before it gets cold," I said, pushing him away as he rolled his eyes.

"Have you eaten anything?" He asked as he made his way over to the noodles.

"Um, Duh!" I said incredulously.

"Geez, wasn't the concern like eating away at you or something?" He asked rolling his eyes.

"Let me get one thing straight," I said raising up my finger. "When a girl is hungry, she eats if there is food in front of her," I preached.

Raising his hands up in surrender, he said,"lesson learned," then he went on to push his fork into the noodles muttering something about never getting his Hollywood moment.

Such a child!

I stood there waiting to hear about how amazing a friend I was till my dreams came crashing down yet again, "this is cold," Aaron rated blankly and my eye twitched once before I did what I do best.

I smacked him on the head.
