chapter 11
Erik felt a pang of guilt as he watched you walk away. He knew that he shouldn't have been ogling you, especially in front of Kubo. But he couldn't help it. Your body was just so...
He shook his head and turned to face Kubo, trying to focus on the conversation. "Uh... yeah, what were we talking about again?"
Kubo clenched his hands into fists, his irritation slowly building. He could see the way Erik was ogling you, and it made his blood boil.
"We were discussing the... business matters," he said, his voice tight. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.
"Yes. As I said, the client wants a new deal." Erik mumbled, lost in his thoughts.
Kubo nodded, focusing on the discussion at hand.
"Right," he said. "So, what kind of deal is the client proposing?"
"They want to talk with you as well, about some new conditions."
Kubo raised an eyebrow. This was interesting. "They want to speak with me as well, huh? Is there a specific reason for that?"
"No, they didn't specify. But as you came here, I thought you would.. "
Kubo's expression darkened. He had a feeling he knew what this was about. "I see. In that case, I guess I will speak with them." He shot a quick glance in the direction of the terrace, where you had walked out just a moment ago.
Erik followed his gaze but Kubo's eyes flicked back to him, meeting his gaze. He raised an eyebrow. "Something on your mind, Erik?"
"My mind?" Erik was stunned and frozen still. "My mind.. something.. I think my mind collapsed."
Kubo tilted his head slightly, studying Erik's expression. "Your mind collapsed? What do you mean by that?"
"What she did to me, to us. This never happened to me before."
Kubo paused, understanding what Erik was implying. He took a moment to collect his thoughts. "Yes, it was... quite an experience, to say the least."
"Experience, you say?"
Kubo chuckled softly. "You're just saying that to please me, aren't you? But yes, it certainly was... intense." He paused, a sly smile playing at the corners of his lips. "Did you enjoy it as much as you seemed to?"
"If I enjoyed it? Damn, it was the best. But I know I can't have her."
Kubo smirked. "Oh, you can't, huh? Why not?"
"Isn't she yours?" Erik was tempted to have you for himself.
Kubo raised an eyebrow at the question. "What do you mean by 'mine'? She's not a possession, if that's what you're implying."
"No, I meant, your woman. Your girlfriend? Wife?"
Kubo let out a bark of laughter. "Girlfriend, wife? You're a little far off there, my friend."
"Then, she is not yours? Can I have her?"
Kubo's expression hardened. "Now you're just being ridiculous."
"But you said she ain't nothing to you." Erik nods in disagreement.
"I said she's not a possession," Kubo repeated, his tone a little sharper. "There's a difference."
"Then just let me get my hands off her, so I don't try to find more."
Kubo's eyes narrowed. "You really are a greedy bastard, aren't you? No, I'm not going to let you have your way with her."
"Yes I may be.. and I do want her to be mine."
Kubo scowled, his temper beginning to flare. "You can want whatever you damn well please, but the answer is no."
"What if my answer is different, baby?" You entered the room. "Hmm?"
Kubo's expression softened slightly as he turned to look at you. "What brings you here?"
"Can't I get inside our room? Should I stay on the balcony then?"
Kubo's expression softened even more. "No, you can come in." He stepped aside, gesturing for you to enter.
"Why so tense?"
Kubo's shoulders sagged slightly. "It's nothing. Just some... business talk."
You glanced at Erik, which was like a puppy. Kubo noticed your glance, his frown deepening. "He's just... being intrusive," he muttered.
"Really? Erik dear? Are you done chatting?" Erik snapped out of his staring, realizing he had been caught ogling you. "Uh... yeah," he mumbled, trying to look innocent.
You giggle amused at his puppy behavior. Kubo watched the exchange, a mix of annoyance and amusement on his face. Erik, on the other hand, looked flustered and sheepish.
"Why you frowning babe?" You kiss Kubo on his cheek. Kubo's irritation softened as you kissed his cheek. "It's just... this business talk is exhausting," he grumbled.
"I bet I've made you more exhausted."
He chuckled, a sly smile on his lips. "That's not wrong... you've certainly kept me on my toes."
"Can we say good night now Erik? You can have Kubo for yourself tomorrow."
Erik, now clearly feeling uncomfortable, got up from his seat. "Uh... yeah, I think I'll call it a night."
"My. Such a gentleman. Thank you."
Kubo watched as Erik made his way out of the room. Once the door closed behind him, he sighed and relaxed into the couch.
"Finally he is gone." You mumble annoyed.
Kubo chuckled softly. "Thank goodness. He was getting on my last nerve." He looked at you, a mixture of curiosity and a hint of jealousy in his eyes. "Why did you... do what you did with Erik?" he asked, a slight edge to his voice.
"Why? For fun let's say. And you test him. And you."
Kubo raised an eyebrow, clearly not pleased with your answer. "What do you mean 'test him and me'?"
"To see if you're allowing me and to see if he is submissive."
Kubo's expression hardened. "He was very... submissive." He gave a bitter chuckle. "It was obvious enough to anyone."
"You didn't seem displeased at that time. Now you .. are you jealous?"
Kubo's expression turned defensive. "Why would I be jealous? I'm just... irritated."
"Why?"
He scowled. "I don't like the way he looks at you."
"You said I'm not yours. Not your wife, your partner, your girlfriend. Right?"
Kubo let out a frustrated sigh. "That's... right. But it still bothers me when he stares at you like that."
"So what are we then?"
Kubo paused, clearly uncomfortable with the question. "We're..." He trailed off, searching for the right words. "It's complicated."
"You told me you want me to be yours. To let you love me and support me. I told you I loved you for all these years."
Kubo closed his eyes, looking agitated. "I know what I said, but it's different now."
"Why? What is different now?"
Kubo let out a deep sigh. "It's just... we're different people now. Things have changed."
"I don't understand. What have changed?"
Kubo looked away, his expression conflicted. "Too many things. It's..." He took a deep breath, as if choosing his words carefully. "It's just not that simple anymore."
"I need you to explain to me properly. You can't switch like this. What the fuck, Kubo?!"
Kubo's jaw clenched. "I just... I'm trying to do what's best for both of us. This... arrangement is complicated."
"I didn't ask you for shit!! You're the one who insisted and dragged me to be here with you. You messed up with my resolve and now you're running away? Coward!"
Kubo bristled at your accusation. "I'm not running away. I'm just trying to be rational."
"And all this time you whispered sweet lies to me you where what?"
Kubo shifted uncomfortably on the couch. "They weren't lies... But things change."
"Then let me go. I want to go back home. Fuck this shit!"
Kubo grabbed your arm, stopping you from leaving. "Wait. You can't just leave."
"What do you mean I can't? I will!!"
Kubo's grip tightened slightly. "It's not that simple. Just... stay here a bit longer."
"I don't want to see you. You make me sick.."
Kubo exhaled slowly, his expression pained. "You don't really mean that."
"I mean it. I don't want anything from you. Never again. I'll never trust you. You messed everything up.. let me go."
His grip faltered slightly, a hint of hurt flashing across his face. "You're overreacting." His expression remained torn. He tried to gather his thoughts. "I'm... I'm just trying to protect you."
"Protect me? From what?"
Kubo ran a hand through his hair, clearly agitated. "From getting hurt. From all... of this."
"You don't make any sense." You almost have tears in your eyes. You couldn't understand what made him snap and behave like this.
Kubo's frustration was growing apparent. "I'm trying to think, okay? It's complicated."
"Nothing was complicated until now..?"
Kubo let out a frustrated noise. "You're not making this any easier, you know."
"I want our relationship, hold on, agreement or whatever it was, to end."
Kubo's expression darkened. "You can't just... end it like that."
"Yes I can. You're not making any sense right now and I want to .. never again Kubo. I want this to end. Please stop."
Kubo clenched his jaw, clearly struggling with what to say. After a moment of silence, he spoke, "Why? Just because I want to be careful?"
"I don't understand what you want."
Kubo looked at you, his expression troubled. "I want... what's best for you."
"Which is what?"
Kubo sighed, running a hand through his hair again. "I don't know. I'm just... trying to keep you safe."
"Hurt by who? You?"
Kubo recoiled at the question. "Of course not me! What are you on about?"
"What the fuck! You're the one hurting me and breaking my trust, you moron?!"
Kubo's expression hardened. "I'm not trying to hurt you. I'm just... being realistic."
"You're being shit."
Kubo's patience was wearing thin. "Stop being so overdramatic."
"Honestly, you sound like senile right now." Your heart was in turmoil and you couldn't comprehend what happened with him.
Kubo bristled at that comment. "I'm just trying to be practical, that's all."
"I don't care. I'm leaving."
Kubo grabbed your arm again, pulling you back. "You're not going anywhere."
"Yes I am. I want to quit. I'm not your assistant, your nothing."
Kubo's grip tightened. "You can't just quit like that."
"Watch me.." but you obviously didn't want to go.
Kubo's expression darkened. "I won't let you."
"You're hurting me now." You hiss as his nails dig into your skin.
Kubo's grip loosened slightly. "I'm not trying to hurt you."
"You also broke my trust and love."
Kubo looked conflicted. "It's not that simple."
"For me it is. You spoke lies, sharing love and fluffy cuddles and now you are.. so different. I can't even recognize you anymore."
Kubo winced at your words. "It's not like that."
"Even when I doubt you, I'm no good without you. Don't abandon me."
Kubo's expression softened. "I'm not abandoning you."
"But you're not behaving like usual. Is it because what happened with Erik?"
Kubo tensed up slightly. "That's... part of it."
"Please tell me so I can understand your point."
Kubo ran a hand through his hair, clearly uncomfortable. "It's just... that whole... display with Erik. It bothered me."
"And why didn't you say anything?"
Kubo looked frustrated. "I didn't know how to bring it up."
"So you want me to be yours only? To have eyes only for you. You want to be my only man?"
Kubo looked away, avoiding your gaze. "Yes. You're mine, just mine. I just don't like the way he looks at you."
"What?? So hold on, you're rejecting me because of how Erik looks at me?"
Kubo let out a frustrated noise. "It's not that simple. It just... bothers me, okay?"
"You should have said so! You were excited you liked everything and now you're jealous and irritated!"
Kubo bristled at the accusation. "I'm not jealous. It's just... disconcerting."
"Baby stop lying. You said you love me .. I understand. I promise I'll never touch someone else. Ok?"
Kubo's expression softened. "You... promise?"
"I promise. I'll never do anything like this. Forgive me. It was my mistake."
Kubo looked away, still clearly bothered by all this. "I'm just... confused, okay?"
