Chapter Five

"AND WHY ARE you late? I thought you said you didn't want to be late and so you'd go yourself. You met a girl and you..." Paul yelled at his brother who approached him with a frown on his face.

"Hey, don't tell me that. If you had seen the girl I met today..." Theodat sneered at his brother and walk pass him.

"Meaning she is nicer than the usual women you meet," his brother teased as he hurried to catch up with him.

"I didn't even notice if she is nice or not. She is annoying and ...I don't know," he tried explaining but the very thought of remembering her made him sick in the stomach.

"Ok. What happened?" Paul asked, showing interest all of a sudden.

Theodat recounted to his elder brother what happened between the girl and him. And he laughed until he couldn't laugh anymore. Theodat stood there wondering if he had said anything funny.

"But at the end, I took the coat," he added so his brother would know he's still above everything and everyone he saw or touched.

"Are you sure the girl was normal? How dare her see your face and still fight with you over a coat?" He asked, imitating Theodat, "That is what you say whenever a woman doesn't get along with you," he concluded.

"She's too dumb to realize that. And she dared to threaten she'll turn me into an ant," he tiredly leaned on the wall and sighed.

"An ant you say. Please the last thing we need right now is another curse from a stupid witch," Paul warned his brother.

"What? She's not a witch. Does she know what it takes to be a witch? She looks like those uncivilized rich girls. Her taste of color combination is bad. How can a witch own a car as the one she packed outside? She's just a foolish woman," he doubtfully scolded his brother.

"Please be careful. I don't think witches now dress like how they used to dress, because if they still do, I don't think grandpa would've even gone out with his first wife," Paul cautioned him while patting his left arm.

"Speaking of grandpa, how is he?"

"Asking me? You are his favorite, you should know better," Paul told him without any form of jealousy settling inside his heart. They had all grown up knowing Theodat was their grandfather's favorite one.

"Hey mum, how are you?" Marisca said with a big smile.

She was talking to her mother. She missed them so much she couldn't wait to call them and tell them what had happened already.

"I am fine. And how are you coping well out there? I bet you have turned someone or something already to another thing..." her mother joked even though she knew her daughter could do worse than that.

Rose also joined them as she sat beside her and Sam couldn't help but jump out of bed.

"No, mum. Grandmum! I missed you. Guess what, today I was able to control myself even though they were really on my nerve," she proudly assured them.

"No way, you did that? At least today you did something good," her mother also chuckled and Sam smiled all to herself.

"Ok, I will call you later. Grandma don't forget to look for the book I asked," she reminded her grandmother of the spell book she had promised to give her when she settled in.

"I won't forget. Just take care of yourself and stay out of trouble. So what will you be doing now that you are in London?" her grandmother gushed as she dreamt about how her granddaughter would live her life there.

"I'll look for a job, have fun, and make friends," she answered, hardly believing she'd make friends.

"Be careful dear and don't practice magic while you are there. Ok?" her mother warned again as her grandmother chuckled.

"Ok, I have to go. Bye," she repeated and it was hard for Rose to let go of the phone.

"Bye, my dear," they also finally lamented before the line went dead.

The next morning, Samantha woke up early. She went out in search of a house. She realized the hotel fees were much more as compared to a rented house. Luckily, she had a house she could rent after searching the whole day for one.

The house wasn't that big but it was big enough to keep her happy. She had a lot going on, on her mind. She wanted to plant flowers in front of the house. She wanted to do that and those. She was so happy, she forgot she'd be cooking and cleaning the house herself.

After packing her belongings inside the house, she became aware the house was still empty. She quickly grabbed her bag and off she drove in her car. She liked the way people watched her and her car. All her life she had thought it was unusual for someone to stare at her. She didn't realize the fun in it until she bought a latest model.

She bought all what she needed to fill her house. She made her house how she wanted it to be like. And she was so tired, she laid on the bed and didn't even know when sleep took over her.

Some few days later, a lady named Erica, in the next house came to Samantha's house because her son had played his ball over her fence.

"Hello, please I'm Erica and I live in the next house," she introduced as Sam eyed her and stretched herself.

"Ok," Sam simply murmured with a questioning look. It's been few days since she rented the place and nobody had come to her to speak to her. She wasn't so sure about what the woman was looking for, because she kept looking around.

"Well, my son threw his ball and it came here. I'm just here to take it back. Hope you don't mind me searching...actually searching is too...hope you don't mind if I look around," she quickly corrected.

"Yeah, go ahead but please make sure you don't break any of my flower vases. They quite are expensive," she pointed out.

"Don't worry, I'll be careful. Thank you," she showed how grateful she was and started looking around for the ball.

She turned and the intruder shouted, "Oh, there it is." She picked it and called on Marisca's attention. "Errm, do you live here alone? Are you married? Any kids?"

Did you actually come here to look for your son's ball? Or you came here to gossip. I doubt if the ball mistakenly came here.

"Yes, I live here alone. Why do you ask?" she replied and tried so hard not to look into her eyes. Since it meant she'd be reading her mind. She was tired of reading minds already.

"Nothing, I was just curious. Well, never mind. Junior must be waiting, so see you around. Bye and thanks."

Marisca said nothing and went back in. She wasn't angry, the lady was friendly but she was wondering how a person could be friendly to someone she hardly knew.

She would spend like centuries trying to be friendly with anyone. But it didn't take much of her time because it seemed she already liked the older woman without a particular reason.

She went back in and took her breakfast, wondering how she'd make good use of the day.
