Chapter 01: Jade Eyes
"And the dragon, with a mighty push of it's great and ferocious wings, swoop away the steam-powered army of man!" I said as I made crazy gestures. The crowd of children 'oooohed' and 'ahhhhhed'.
A teenaged boy raised his hand out of the middle of the crowd. I knew that hand all too well.
"Wait, wait, wait. Aren't they robots of some sort? They should've been able to stand against the strong wind." The boy smiled as if he had defeated me.
Laugh on.
"Aaron," I began, looking at him straight. "It was literally the early times," I told him as I walked slowly (for effect purposes, by the way), "So what do you expect?" I asked, stopping in my tracks. No one replied. Awkward.
"Of course, early times means less discovery! Less materials! And anyway, this is a fantasy story, mind you. Of course the protagonist will be successful!" I declared as I defended my side of things.
Everyone cheered as I said this. I triumphantly stood proud. Aaron didn't flinch, but I knew he was down right irritated.
---
"Poor Aaron," I mocked. Aaron was my best friend yet my biggest rival. I don't even know why we became chums in the first place. "Fae, sometimes, your vivid imagination takes up space in your head, totally blows it up." He smirked.
He shoved away his black hair out of his eyes. I always loved the color of his irises-- a shade of jade green. They always had a hypnotic aura. He smiled. I snapped out of my trance.
"G-Gah! A-Anyway." I looked at the ceiling. The school bell rang. "Whoop, time's up. See ya later." I packed my bags and walked briskly out of the school.
It was pointless. Footsteps followed.
"Come on, Fae," Aaron said, huffing. "You can't walk alone! You promised me the two of us will walk home together today..." He begged like a puppy. I sighed loudly in defeat. "Fine, do what you want."
Our houses were just right next to each other. Aaron's house was one of the best in the city -- a mansion with a wide garden up front. His family was one of the richest, after all.
"Fae, I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
I nodded. He waved his hand as I proceeded to walk towards my house.
