Haisley's POV
Alastair had locked me in a closet. The suffocating darkness engulfed me like a familiar foe, its cold embrace a grim echo from the haunted chambers of my childhood. The gnarled hands of memories reached out from the depths, pulling me back into the abyss where the ghosts of the past lurked. The closet, a sinister vault of shadows, was a monument to the cruel torment our father used to subject me to. Each passing second was a dance with the demons of yesteryears, a journey through the twisted alleyways of fear that snaked through my mind.
The haunting echoes of the past melded with the grim reality of the present, a grotesque tapestry woven with threads of despair. The cold shackles that bound me were chains of hopelessness that threatened to drown the ember of defiance that flickered within my battered heart. The silence was a haunting melody that resonated with the cries of the helpless child I once was, a chilling reminder of the malevolent power Wayne wielded.
The darkness seemed to pulse with a life of its own, a sinister entity that breathed alongside the rhythm of my frantic heart. The creaks and murmurs of the old house were whispers of doom, each sound a mocking laughter that echoed through the hollow halls of despair.
My thoughts raced back to Tarryn and Rose. The image of Tarryn, pale and fragile, threatened by the looming specter of Wayne's wrath, fueled a burning rage that coursed through my veins. The cold, haunting reality that Rose had been shot and was in perilous danger gnawed at the edges of my sanity. Their faces, etched with fear and desperation, were a driving force, a beacon of purpose amidst the enveloping gloom.
With each passing moment, the veil of darkness seemed to thicken, a shroud of despair that threatened to smother the flame of hope. But within the cold, encroaching shadows, a spark of resolve steeled itself against the onslaught of dread.
My fingers scraped against the cold metal of the handcuffs, each scratch a desperate cry for freedom, a silent vow of rebellion against the sinister shackles that bound us to Wayne's malicious whims.
As the icy fingers of despair threatened to clutch my heart, a whisper of resolve cut through the gloom. It was a vow to fight, to protect my sister and Rose from the malevolent storm that threatened to engulf us. Amidst the haunting echoes of the past and the grim whispers of the present, a flame of defiance burned with a steady, unyielding glow, a promise of battle against the approaching tide of terror.
It must have been hours later when they started, the piercing screams and cries of my twin in the basement. "Oh my God," I murmured, close to vomiting. My mind raced with all the possibilities they were doing to her.
Each scream cutting through the veil of silence were a cruel dagger twisting within the core of my being. Each shriek was a violent storm, crashing against the fragile shores of my sanity. The darkness around me seemed to reverberate with Tarryn's screams, a grotesque symphony orchestrated by Wayne's merciless hand.
A torrent of emotions raged within, a tempestuous sea clashing against the walls of the dark prison that held me captive. The helplessness that gnawed at my soul was a relentless beast, tearing through the fabric of my resolve with vicious, merciless fangs. The echoes of Tarryn's pain were a relentless tide, eroding the pillars of composure that I desperately clung to.
My fists clenched till my knuckles turned white, the chains rattling against the cold fury that surged through my veins. My breaths came in ragged, frantic gasps, each exhale a desperate plea to the heavens for a sliver of mercy in this hellish abyss we were plunged into.
The harrowing image of Tarryn, bound and at the mercy of Wayne's vile desires, was a horrifying tableau that played on the dark stage of my mind. The insidious laughter of Wayne echoed through the corridors of despair, a mocking, sinister tune that danced on the edge of my crumbling sanity.
I felt a monster awakening within, a ferocious beast fueled by a primal, burning need to protect, to fight, to tear through the chains and the darkness that stood between me and my sister. I clawed at the walls of the closet, a roaring fury that sought to break free from the suffocating cloak of helplessness that draped around me.
With every lash that tore through the silence, a violent tremor of rage and despair shook the very core of my being. The sound was a malevolent echo that resonated through the hollow chambers of hope, filling the void with a chilling narrative of pain and fear.
The barren darkness around me seemed to mock my helplessness, its cold whispers a relentless reminder of the abyss that had swallowed us whole. The shackles bit into my flesh with each futile struggle, the cold metal a cruel mimicry of the icy grip of dread that clenched my heart.
I couldn't help the tears that streamed down my cheeks. I clawed at the door, making my nails bleed as splinters pierced my fingers and knuckles. "Let me out, please," I begged but no one came. My twins screamed again and again and again and I couldn't take it anymore. I rocked back and forth, banging my head against the wall. "PLEASE LET ME OUT. PLEASE ... PLEASE."

Sirens and shouts woke me up, my heart filling with hope. "FBI, hands up, hands up," someone shouted. There were more shouts. More noises, loud thudding that echoed throughout the house. There were two gunshots.
I started banging on the closet door, my fists becoming bloody. "Help me, I'm in here," I sobbed, "help me, please!"
The sudden burst of light as the closet door swung open was a glaring intrusion, tearing through the veil of darkness that had ensnared me. The silhouettes of rescuers cut through the gloom. The familiar, comforting figure of Skylar emerged from the shadows, his face a blend of relief and fury as he saw the shackles that bound me.
"Haisley, oh God," he murmured, dropping to his knees. He ordered one of the agents behind him to grab a handcuff key. My older brother unlocked the chains around my wrist and then embraced me, hugging me tight. The rush of blood through my liberated veins was a tide of life, coursing through the dark corridors of despair that had threatened to engulf me. Skylar's embrace was a haven amidst the storm, a sturdy anchor amidst the turbulent sea of terror that had swept us away. His familiar scent, the warmth of his presence was a soothing balm on the open wounds that the night had inflicted.
"I'm sorry," I cried into his shoulder, clutching the back of his shirt tight. "I'm so sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't protect her."
"Hey, it's not your fault," he murmured, as he pulled away, his eyes bore into mine, a silent exchange of the horrors endured and the battles fought. His voice, when it finally broke through the silence, was a ragged whisper laden with relief and lingering dread. "We got you, Haisley. It's over."
But even as the words echoed through the grim halls, my thoughts were a torrent rushing towards Tarryn and Rose. The looming fear for their safety was a cold shiver racing down my spine. The police officers moved swiftly, their stern faces etched with determination as they cleared the house, the night's sinister veil lifting with every room they secured.
Skylar seemed to read my thoughts, his grip tightening around my arm, a sturdy pillar of support as we navigated through the remnants of the horror that had unfolded. The desperate hope for Tarryn and Rose's safety was a burning flame, guiding us through the shadows as we awaited news of their fate. "Come on, let's get you to a medic."
"No ... no, I need to see Tarryn."
I tried to get by him but Skylar blocked my attempts.
The urgency in my voice reverberated through the eerie silence that hung in the aftermath of the night's terror. Skylar's grip tightened, his arms a barrier between me and the haunting uncertainty that loomed ahead. His chest was a sturdy wall, yet it couldn't shield me from the torrent of dread that threatened to engulf my soul.
His voice was a low rumble, a desperate attempt to anchor me amidst the swirling storm of emotions. "Haisley, the paramedics are doing everything they can. We need to give them space to work."
But his words were mere whispers against the roaring tide of desperation that surged within. The image of Tarryn, bound and tormented, was a ghastly specter that clawed at the edges of my sanity. Each second that ticked by was a heavy stone sinking into the abyss of unknown that yawned between Tarryn and me.
"I can't just stand here, Skylar! She's alone, she's..." The words choked in my throat, a blend of rage and dread forming a bitter gall.
"She's not alone, Carson is with her," he said, his embrace tightened, his breaths warm against my cold skin, a futile attempt to ward off the chilling reality that gnashed at our hearts. The strong facade he held trembled under the weight of shared terror, the veil of composure fraying at the edges.
"I'm her twin, I should have protected her."
"I know, I know..." he murmured, his voice a broken echo in the hollow void of fear that engulfed us. His eyes, when they met mine, were stormy seas reflecting the turbulent emotions that churned within. "Wayne is an evil man, he manipulated you."
But the assurance felt like a frail leaf adrift on the violent waters of uncertainty. The realm of unknown horrors that might be befalling Tarryn was a monstrous shadow that loomed large, its dark wings casting a long, cold veil of fear over the slivers of hope we desperately clung to.
"We need to move you both outside," the agent said, "the paramedics need to treat his wounds."
The agent's words were a distant echo, pulling me back from the whirlpool of terror my mind had been spiraling into. As Skylar's grip loosened, the stark reality of the physical world around me began to seep back in. Each step towards the doorway felt like moving through a dense fog of disbelief. The transition from the suffocating darkness of captivity to the open expanse outside was jarring, like stepping from one realm into another.
The cold morning air hit my face with a sharp sting, a brutal contrast to the stale, stagnant air that had hung heavy in the confined spaces of Wayne's sinister domain. The blaring sirens, the bustling activity of police officers and paramedics around, it all seemed like a surreal blur against the grim backdrop of the night's horror.
As the paramedics ushered me towards the awaiting ambulance, the tender touch of their gloved hands examining my wounds felt alien, a stark reminder of the human touch of care and concern that seemed to have been lost in the abyss we had just emerged from. "Where is she?"
"Still in the basement. They're treating some of her injuries before bringing her to an ambulance,"
Skylar was beside me every step of the way, his presence a sturdy rock amidst the churning sea of chaos that surrounded us. The paramedics worked with a professional urgency, their swift movements a dance of efficiency as they tended to the wounds, both seen and unseen, that the night had inflicted upon us.
My brothers face, pale under the morning light, bore the of the night's terror, his eyes an ocean where waves of relief, fear, and lingering dread crashed against the shores of hope. His hand found mine, a silent grip of solidarity as we both awaited news of Tarryn's fate.
The agent approached us once more, his face a stoic mask, yet his eyes revealed a glimmer of horror of the hellish ordeal we had just been through. "Where's my mom?"
"Mom is over there," Skylar pointed to another ambulance. I tried to get off the stretcher but my brother held me back. "She's unconscious, Haze. You can see her at the hospital."
"She ... she helped us and he beat her," I said, closing my eyes and swallowing the lump in my throat. "What .. what happened to her, what happened to Tarryn?"
Skylar's face paled. "Haisley..."
"Please, Skylar, tell me. I ... I heard her screams and I couldn't do anything. Please." He locked eyes with me and rubbed his hand over his mouth, eyes glistening with unshed tears. I had never seen him upset, not that I knew him very long, but I knew it wasn't often he showed such deep emotion.
"They whipped her."
"No, oh God," I mumbled, sniffling.
"We are ready to go," one of the paramedics said, gently touching my shoulder. "We'll get you to the hospital, Haisley. You'll have the best treatment and you can see your mom and sister when they're recovering."
Skylar ran an affectionate hand through my hair. "We'll get through this, okay? I promise you that," he murmured and I believed him.
