"slow": In 500 words, tell what happens when it is slow

PROMPT STORY

I think I have an idea for this week's Weekend Writing Challenge prompt.

Yeah, definitely something brewing in the ol cognition.

I'm mulling even as we speak.

You'd like to hear more?

Ok, well seeing as you've shown such interest, I'll do my best to explain.

Here we go then.

Well, you know the prompt word this week is Slow?

And the idea is to write a 500 or so word story, that - and I quote ... 'tells what happens when its slow.'

Well obviously that was my starting point.

You know what though? It's just occurred to me that I'm not very good at sticking to this 500 word limit. I usually go a hundred, maybe two hundred over and sometimes if I'm using the weekend prompt to do a scene from one of my ongoing serial fictions I might even double up and write a thousand words.

Some people are sticklers about that, so they might not like the way I go about things.

But to me, the story is the story and it takes as long as it takes.

Cuts and edits?

Well, yeah, I could but it's never really been my thing. I tend to just write - stream of consciousness style. Usually it works out and all I have to do is correct a few typos and grammar fluffs along the way. Oh and I'm the type who's grateful if a reader takes the time to point out an obvious error I may have missed ... well as long as they comment on the story too, not just a typo. After all that's the whole point of writing - to me at least - to have someone read and enjoy it and hopefully leave a comment.

Anyway, back to my idea. You'll love it, I'm sure.

But first I should maybe mention my process. 

So initially I was thinking, is this prompt suitable for my ongoing serialization (See Mythlands: The Heist) or should I use it to pen another flash fiction vignette for one of my ongoing characters.

Incidentally, I created most of those by accident writing for past Weekend Challenge prompts.

One of my earliest was Inspector Noone - Slow might have worked for him as the Noone vignettes are usually gritty noir, real world with slight exaggerated flair. Character rather than plot driven.

I also considered my slightly Flashmanesque Middle Ages knight character Sir Campion Longshield, but I'd written a few recently.

I haven't brought my serial killing clown Mr Giggles to Wattpad yet, but maybe that would be better off in it's own collection.

I wrote a Father Time scene for Time: Immemorial, just recently - one I've had in my head for ages, so no to that as well.

Anyway after rejecting all of the above, the idea hit me. It was perfect! It fit like a glove and I think you'll get a real kick out of what I have in mind and ...
