City lights are a promise

To change you

If you allow it

New beginnings pull

Stepping into a life unshaped

Thrills

But there is ever a price

A shedding

A bending, quietly

Of the version you left behind

You will be rewritten

By lights more brilliant

Than any shone by you

And you wonder

Will there be recognition

In this newborn you

Stepping out of the new dawn

Or will you be a stranger
