Chapter 21
I took my hand out of his and cleared my throat. "Come on," I said, opening the car door. "Let's talk to your mom and see what she has to say."
Ethan nodded his head and got out of the car with me. He looked at Wally and Eevie when they got out of the moving van, Eevie looking rather excited and slightly annoyed.
"I could have contributed with the convo," she said. "You did not need to have me ride with Wally."
"You wouldn't have been able to sing, Ms. Eevie," Wally said, putting his hands behind his back. "You would have been listening to songs that you did not like to sing to."
Eevie shrugged her shoulder and grimaced. "True," she said. "So, what's the plan?" she asked, looking at me.
"Pack everything except dishes and the tables and shit that doesn't have any sentimental value and move everyone out and into the apartment," I replied. "There is already furniture and everything there and ready."
My phone dinged, and I pulled it out of my phone and nodded.
"What?" Ethan asked, watching me type a message to the person.
"I have some of my cop friends on standby," I said, tucking my phone into my pocket. "They will be here to make sure that I don't kill your dad."
Ethan looked rather worried but nodded his head. He knew that was one reason why. The other reason was that he knew that I wanted him to pay for what he had done to his wife and his family. He knew that I wanted his father to suffer jail time even when I couldn't do it to my parents.
"Are you s- Oow, what was that for Wally?" Eevie asked.
"That is for you to be quiet," he said. "Come, let's get this done so that we can leave before he does arrive. It will take you a while to convince her to do this."
I frowned and nodded my head. I stayed silent as I followed him to his house.
"Mom?" Ethan called out, opening the door of the house. "Chris is here." He waited until the three of us walked in before closing the door behind him.
"Chris!" a couple of the other kids exclaimed. Two girls around the age of seven ran towards me and hugged me, and I smiled and hugged them.
"And why is Chris here?" Ethan's mom asked, walking into the living room, drying a cup. Her brown eyes were dull while her brown hair was duller. She looked exhausted, and a new bruise was on her face.
"To give you a way out," I said. I looked at the two girls. "Why don't you two go finish the dishes, ya? While I go talk to your mom?"
"But, didn't you get us anything?" one of the girls, Hailey, asked, pouting. "Didn't you leave two days ago?"
"I did," I confirmed. "And, I will give it to you once I am done talking with your mother, so go and finish the dishes."
They huffed but walked away, and I shook my head. They were both sulking and going slow, and I knew that they were waiting for me to call them back.
"If you two don't hurry up, I will not give you what I had gotten the both of you and just give it to your other sisters."
They both looked at each other and ran into the kitchen, and I rolled my eyes.
I gestured to the couch. "Sit," I said, taking the folder from Wally when he touched my arm. I walked to the other seat in the room and sat down, placing the folder on the coffee table.
Ethan's mom, Kathleen, did what I said and sat down. She looked at the folder and then looked at me. "What's this?" she asked, her voice having an underlying tone in it.
"Paperwork," I replied. "Open it."
She hesitated but opened the file. She looked at me; her eyes were wide with shock. "What's this?" she asked, her voice soft. "What is all of this for?"
"For you to have a better life than the one you are living," I replied. "For you and your children. All you have to do is sign the divorce papers."
"He's going to find me," she said, staring at them. She wanted to, but she was scared of the repercussions that could happen.
"Oh, I do want him to try, so I can hurt as bad as he hurt you," I said, and she glared at me. "You have a new address and a new job that has a babysitting service," I said, changing the subject. "Some of my cop friends had put a restraining order on him to keep him away from you and the kids. All you have to do is sign."
"He'll come after you," she warned.
"Good," I said. "That is exactly what I want him to do."
"Are you serious?" She widened her eyes and opened her mouth in shock. "He will kill you, Christina," she said; I cringed when she used my full name. "What do you mean that is what you want him to do?"
"I want him to go after me," I replied, not upset that she was scolding me. "I want him to give me a reason to kill him." I held my hand, stopping her from talking. "I did not do this training for the fun of it. I wanted to become strong to face those that are being oppressed by assholes like your husband."
"Mom, please," Ethan said. "I... think Chris is right for once. If... you get killed, then what will happen to us? Chris will go berserk on him if he does and could end up in jail."
She hesitated and looked at me. "Will you?" she asked. "Will you go berserk on him if he does kill me?"
"Yes," I replied darkly. "Now, can you sign this? I think it is time for us to leave before he gets back. I do have some cops on standby, but I do not know if they would be able to stop me."
Kathleen hesitated and looked through the file. Finally, she caved and nodded her head. "Ok," she said, and this feeling of relief blossomed in my chest. "I'll do it. I am going to take this way out."
"Good," I said, sounding breathless. I was stunned that she didn't yell at me or tell me off for doing this behind her back. "That is all that I needed to hear."
Wally stayed silent and handed her a pen. He nodded his head when she thanked him quietly before backing away. He looked relieved that she had finally let me help out of this toxic marriage to her and the kids.
And I was too because she was a good person. She didn't deserve the shit that had been given to her, and I was glad that I was able to change it for her and the kids.
They needed this as much as I did because it was the only way I knew how to show my appreciation to them. Without them, I had no idea where I would be.
