Chapter 27

My mother stayed for dinner, and dinner was very tense. She kept trying to get Clarissa with Drew, but Drew kept denying any advances that my mother had made.

Clarissa stayed silent through the whole thing, and her jaw was set while our mother talked about them being together. Her whole body was tense, and she gritted her every so often.

For some reason, I couldn't help but feel jealous when my mother tried to push Clarissa onto Drew. My hand grew tighter and tighter around my fork, and anger filled my body with each passing second.

"So," my mother said again for the thirtieth time. She placed her elbow on the table and leaned her chin on her hand. Her head was cocked, and she studied Drew with eyes that reminded me of poop. "Why do you not want to go out with my daughter?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "Clarissa is a good fit for you."

Drew cleared his throat and took a sip of his water. Slowly, he placed the glass down on the table and looked at her. "She is too young for me," he replied.

"Well, she is only fifteen," she said. "She isn't that young for you."

"I am eighteen, Mrs. Willis," Drew replied. "She is a minor, and I am not allowed to be in a relationship with a minor. I could go to jail."

"It is not that big of a difference, though," she replied, waving him off. "You won't be going to jail. You two aren't that far off in age, and if you want, you can wait until she is eighteen to say that you two are together."

Drew shook his head. "No, thank you," he replied. "You have a beautiful daughter, but she isn't my type."

"Then what is your type?" I asked, not able to help myself. I raised an eyebrow and cocked my head while I studied him, and he looked at me. I ignored my mother's hiss, knowing full well that I would be in trouble with her over this.

Drew raised an eyebrow and cocked his head, mimicking me. A small smirk appeared on his face when I narrowed my eyes and scowled, but he didn't comment on it. "Someone that isn't afraid of saying what is on her mind," he replied. "She isn't afraid of telling me to," he looked at my mother, "please excuse my language," before, he looked at me and said, "'go fuck yourself.'"

Clarissa choked on her water when he said that, and we all looked at her to see that she was coughing. Quickly, she waved off Wally when he walked over to her and cleared her throat. "I apologize," she said, clearing her throat. She wiped her mouth with the napkin and looked at the two of us. "I just thought it was funny."

"It is not," my mother said. "That is not the type of female you should dating, Young Man. A man like yourself should have someone soft and delicate. They should be able to support you in everything that you do, even if what you are doing is wrong."

I held back an eye roll and took a sip of water. Just like you, I thought, making sure that I didn't purse my lips. I know that you "support" your dear husband, even though you are cheating on him yourself, you scathing bitch.

He shook his head and took another sip of water. "I don't think soft and delicate is a female for me," Drew said, putting down the glass. "I would rather have someone tell me that they do not like what I am doing than having someone bite their lip and hold their tongue."

"Why?" Clarissa asked. She cleared her throat when we looked at her, and her cheeks turned red. "If I may ask, of course."

Drew nodded. "It is fine that you asked," he replied. He cleared his throat and shifted in his seat, glancing at me before he looked at my sister. "Because I think that is what I need to keep my head on right," he replied. "I am sure that you have heard the rumors about me." He raised an eyebrow.

Clarissa nodded. "I have," she confirmed. "Are they true?" Again, she cleared her throat and shifted in her seat nervously. "If I may ask."

Drew nodded. "Some of the rumors are true," he said. "However, some of them are more exaggerated than others." He took a bite of his food, and I could tell that he was uncomfortable talking about his past in front of my mother.

"What else do you look for in a female?" I asked, ignoring my mother's scathing look. I took a bite of my food and raised an eyebrow.

Drew stayed silent for a bit while he ate the bite of his food. He cocked his head and looked lost in thought as if he was trying to come up with a female that he wouldn't mind spending the rest of his life with.

I cleared my throat and took a sip of water, the silence dragging on further than I liked. "I mean, I am sure that you had thought about it." I placed the glass down and folded my hands across my lap while I stared at him.

"I want someone who doesn't mind getting dirty," Drew said. He glanced at my mother before he looked at me. "I mean like someone who doesn't mind dirt getting on their clothes and not freak out. I want someone who can stand up for themselves and, in a sense, not a damsel in distress."

I nodded and stayed silent, wondering if Drew had any other preference about his future lover. I held back from pursing my lips and narrowing my eyes, not knowing why I wanted to know what type of female he wanted.

Jealousy reared its green head, and all I wanted to do was find this female that he was talking about and beat her ass.

But where was this coming from? Why was I feeling jealous over a female that could not exist?

Because you like him, a whispering voice said in the back of my head. You are attracted to him.

I stilled, and my eyes grew wide when that whispering voice said that.

Did I like him?

Of course not. He was a dick. He almost ran me over with his bike, and he hadn't even apologized.

But he slowly snuck his way into your heart.

I held back an eye roll and bit the inside of my lip. I was not attracted to him. I could not be attracted to him, but I was. I was attracted to this male that was an asshole and a dick.

However, not all of him was an asshole and a dick. I had seen a part of his soft side when he walked out of the house with me. He didn't have to check up on me when my father had sent that text, but he did.

And slowly but surely, I became attracted to him and was jealous of when he talked about other females that weren't me.

However, there was no way I could act on it. I could not let him know. Not unless I wanted a war to happen between my family and me.

And that was something that I did not want to happen, especially when I was still under my parents' roof.
