Chapter 57

I opened the door to my apartment room a while later, and I bit back a tired sigh while I moved a hand through my hair and across my face, too tired to answer any questions but knowing that I was going to have to because my grandmother was going to want to know what was going on. "Grams?" I asked when I entered the apartment room followed by Drew. "Are you here?"

There was a small clatter coming from the kitchen before she raced into the hallway to check on me and to make sure that I was safe and sound without saying a word.

As soon as she was in the hallway and saw us, she breathed a small sigh of relief and bit back a small sob while she covered her mouth with her hand. "Oh, Dear," she said, and her voice was shaking with the relief that she felt. "My beautiful girl, are you ok?"

I held back an eye roll and pressed my lips into a thin line, not used to this level of care from someone. "I am fine, Grams," I said. "I am sorry that it took so long. I had to make sure that stuff was settled and situated for something that doesn't concern you."

"What happened?" Grams asked and frowned, and I had a feeling that she did not like me saying that it didn't concern her. "Are we allowed to go back to your house?" She raised an eyebrow in question while she studied me with a small frown on her face. "Or are we staying here tonight?"

"We're to stay here for the weekend," I said and shook my head, not answering her question about what had happened. "Can I put my stuff down and make sure that Drew has a spot to sleep before we start talking about everything that has happened in the last hour or so, please? Also, where is Clarissa?"

Grams looked at Drew before she looked at me, and a small frown appeared on her face. "She's in the living room waiting for you because she was worried sick," she replied coldly. "And where is Andrew going to be sleeping?"

I bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through my hair and across my face. "He is going to be sleeping in my room on an air mattress," I said with a shake of my head, pursing my lips in annoyance. "You are staying in your room, and Clarissa is going to be in the guest bedroom."

"And why will she not be in your room and him in the guest bedroom?" she asked and cocked her head to the side while she studied me further. "Wouldn't that be the better plan, especially since you are still female, and he is a male?"

"Because I still have work to do, Grams," I said with a small hiss in my voice, making sure that I said it low enough that Clarissa couldn't hear me while I took a step toward her. "I don't want her to know about everything that I have to do, especially since it isn't any of her damn business. Drew already knows, especially since his mom is who she is."

My grandmother looked at him before she looked at me with a hard look on her face. "No babies," she said before she looked at him with a look on her face that had Drew's face growing pale while he took a step away from me and to the side. "Is that understood?"

Drew gulped and nodded, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl. "Yes, Ma'am," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "I wasn't planning on touching her in that way because I do not want my ass tossed out the window or for myself to get stabbed by something."

"Hmph." My grandmother nodded, and she looked smug, especially since he had said something about me tossing him out the window or stabbing him with something. "And you are to stay wherever she puts you. If she puts you on an air mattress, then you are to sleep here. There will be no moving to the actual bed when it is not needed; is that also understood?"

I scowled and narrowed my eyes. "Gr-"

"Yes, Ma'am," Drew said and nodded in confirmation, interrupting me. He offered me a nervous smile when he felt me scowl in his direction, because he had interrupted me, before he looked at my grandmother. "I understand, and I will not do anything to make you or her mad at me. I promise."

My grandmother seemed to be satisfied with his answer because she nodded with a small smile on her face. "Good," she said and walked over to him. She patted his cheek, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes and scowl. "Then we will not have any problems with you staying with us. Food will be ready in a bit, so go ahead and get settled in. Christina, Dear, make sure to show your sister that you are fine before you get settled in your bedroom. Poor girl has been so worried about you." She paused and cleared her throat. "Now, have you contacted your friends and teammates to let them know that you are alive and well?" she asked.

"I have, and they do know that I am alive and well," I said and nodded, holding back an eye roll when she called me by my full name. "Do you have to call me by my full name?" I asked, and my grandmother smiled and nodded. "Why?"

"Because that is your name just as much as Andrews is his," Grams said and gestured toward him, and I looked in his direction before I looked at her. "Now, go ahead and get settled in for the weekend. Do you know where you are going to be staying for the rest of the school year?"

"I'm hoping at home," I said and started to make my way to the living room with Drew following me so that I could show my sister that I was fine and alive, even though I was still aching a little. "Weinstein will let me know if it is safe or not by the end of the weekend, and Wally will keep an eye on the house. If it isn't safe for the week, then we'll be staying here."

"And will you need me here?" Grams asked and raised an eyebrow in question, and I shook my head no. "You will keep me posted, correct?"

I nodded in confirmation. "I'll keep you posted about everything and if they are actually going to get a divorce this time," I said, holding back an eye roll. "I'll also keep you updated about what is going on with me and Clarissa and where we will be staying."

"And what if Clarissa wants to stay with you?" Grams asked and raised an eyebrow in question. "Both of you can get emancipated from your parents, and you are almost of legal age anyway."

I bit back a tired sigh and shook my head, not knowing the answer to her question. "We'll talk about that later, Grams," I said, trying but failing to hide the tiredness from my voice. "For right now, let me get him and myself settled in for the time being. It has been a long day."

A long day indeed, even with the day not being over just yet...

Oh, God.
