 *CHARLOTTE'S POV*

Define love. I want to know everything. This time, I don't care about the limits. I don't care about the risks. I want to know.

"I'm waiting outside. Can't wait to see you ;)"

I read his text out loud, mocking his obnoxious voice. Then, realizing how stupid I probably looked, I shook my head and shrugged my coat over my shoulders. I trudged over to the mirror and adjusted my hair, making sure I looked presentable. It wasn't that I wanted to impress Rodney, anything but. Mother said there would be paparazzi, so I had to make sure I didn't make my parents look bad, which of course had been made a priority in my life.

Sighing, I tugged at the dress my mother had picked out. For once in my life, I actually liked her choice. The material was silk, with lace elegantly lining the material of the lower half. The dress fell down to my mid-thighs, accompanied by creme heels. With my eyes locked on the mirror, I tilted my head to the side in thought. I had never seen myself as beautiful. Sure, I had my mother's hazel eyes and slim figure, but that didn't mean I was anything special. I wasn't like the other girls. I wasn't obsessed with dieting and buying brand name items. And my crazy curly hair, which I had straightened tonight didn't put me in that category at all.

My phone rang, tugging me out of my invading thoughts.

"It's almost 8.. good luck dear. Try to enjoy yourself, alright? You never know how this night could turn out. ;) Xxx"

I smiled and tucked my cell phone into my clutch. What did the last part of that text mean? I decided not to dwell on it and checked to see if I had everything, bracing myself for the night ahead of me. I turned the lights off and stepped out onto the pathway. I waved to the butler, who was chatting happily with the driver and turned down the pathway. The rumbling of the gray clouds above me was accompanied by the start of a faint drizzle. The patter of raindrops as they hit the cars around me was better than music to my ears. It was my favorite sound, and the smell of rain soaking the ground beneath me was beyond satisfying.

I spotted Rodney in his beloved Bugatti ahead. He revved the engine, causing me to roll my eyes. Rodney wasn't a bad looking guy. Actually, he was THE guy, the one that every girl swooned over. But like I said, I wasn't like those girls. Sure, Rodney's sparkling green eyes and tousled brown hair made him seem irresistible, but once the guy opened his mouth, you wondered what you had gotten yourself into. He was the typical jerk, only looking to get in a girl's pants. And for some odd reason, he'd been chasing me for a year now. I guess he didn't give up because he hadn't gotten what he wanted from me yet. And I wasn't giving it to him, either.

Charming his way to my parents' hearts, Rodney had managed to set up weekly golf lessons with me and make them believe he was the sweetest guy around. When in reality, my parents didn't even care about that. They cared about his family's money and what a great business could be formed if Rodney and I were to get together. Once again, the decision wasn't mine. It was my parents'. No consideration of how I felt, just calculations surrounding business.

I jerked open the passenger door and sat down, not bothering to utter a word to the boy beside me.

"Hey babe," He leaned over and pecked my cheek, sending a wave of expensive cologne my way. I muttered a quiet greeting before the car lurched backwards, and sped off onto the highway.

"You know, this is our first proper date? No one to interrupt, just you and me." Rodney spoke. I could hear the smirk in his voice as he placed his hand over mine.

I slapped his hand away. "Eyes on the road," I spoke in a bored tone and watched two rain drops as they raced their way down the glass window. The rain had picked up, brightening my mood a bit.

"You're no fun, babe," Rodney groaned, thankfully placing both hands on the steering wheel, where they should always be. I hated being in his car, mainly because his driving was so reckless. He would never have his eyes on the road, his gaze drifting to me every two seconds.

The ride seemed like the longest one of my life at twenty minutes long and Rodney spent the torturous minutes educating me about some rugby match his team won.

When the restaurant came into view, I didn't even wait for the car to properly stop before opening the door and stepping out into the pouring rain, which didn't seem to faze the eager men with cameras that were waiting by the entrance. Rodney wrapped his arm around my waist and led me towards the restaurant. I tried to ignore the paparazzi as they bombarded us, yelling questions and accusations. Rodney simply smiled and answered their questions, loving the attention. Once we were inside, I let out a breath I had been holding ever since I exited the deadly car.

"Name please? Do you have a reserve-- Oh, hey Rodney!" The employee at the front desk raised her head to greet us, smiling a bit too widely when she spotted Rodney.

Rodney shamelessly slipped his arm around her waist and kissed her cheek as a greeting. I rolled my eyes when she giggled, thinking she looked cute. She led us to our table, which was near the corner where most reserved tables were. I smiled to myself as I looked at the numerous loving couples sat at the tables surrounding ours. They probably thought the same about Rodney and I, even though it was far from the truth.

I decided to keep my coat on and sunk into the leather seat across from Rodney. He gazed down at his menu, while my eyes remained on the large window behind him, giving my them access to the busy London street. The pounding rain didn't affect the London civilians, as they battled it off with their umbrellas, determined to get where they needed to go. I wanted so desperately to be out there in the rain.

"Hi, I'm Alice and I'll be your waitress tonight. Can I start with getting you guys anything to drink?" The waitress snapped me out of my fantasies. Alice looked young, maybe just a year younger than me. I smiled when I saw her kind eyes patiently flickering between Rodney and I.

"I'll have some of your best wine, same for the lady, please." Rodney said, not once averting his eyes from the menu. Alice nodded and smiled at me, as if for confirmation. I gulped and watched her turn around and walk away from the table.

"Wait!" I abruptly shouted, making the chatter around us die down. All eyes were on me, but thankfully people quickly began averting their gazes and went back to their dinner.

"I'd actually like some water, please..." I felt my cheeks flush and Rodney grunted loudly, leaning back into his seat.

Alice gave me an assuring smile and said, "That's perfectly fine. I'll be right back with your drinks," before venturing back into the kitchen. I sunk lower into my seat out of embarrassment, and traced and designs on the wooden table with my thumb.

"I don't understand you." Rodney said, a hint of annoyance in his voice.

My eyes flickered up to him and I responded just as annoyed. "What do you mean?"

Rodney shook his head and leaned forward, setting his elbows onto the table so his face was closer to mine.

"You're 18, you're legal. Why do you refuse to drink anything with alcohol in it? Why don't you ever loosen up, have a little fun?" His dark green eyes would drop to my lips after every few words, making my stomach churn in disgust. His intentions would never be pure.

I narrowed my eyes at him. "I can have fun without drinking. Maybe you should try it, too."

I leaned as far back in the seat as I could to increase the distance between us.

Rodney sighed and fell back into the leather that cushioned his back. He ignored me for a few minutes, but much to my dismay, began talking about his car as if we had never argued. I don't know what I had been expecting that night. I had known it would be dreadful, but I couldn't help but think that things were going to be different for me. The same boring routine I had been forced to call my life had been shattered by my newest friends. They were all I could think about as I listened to the boy in front of me babble shamelessly. What would they be doing right now? Liam and Danielle were probably out. And the guys? They would be having fun, something I had only ever experienced with them.

It wasn't long before Alice arrived with out drinks. I brought the ice cold glass of water to my lips, but quickly retreated it when a familiar voice filled my ears.

"Charlotte?! Is that you?"

My eyes wide, I turned in my chair to see the last person I was expecting. A smile broke out onto my face. It was crazy, but sure has hell was not a coincidence.
