Invisible

It's not like I'm gonna

Promise my love forever

To some immature

Kid that gives me a paper heart

With some rhyme he probably

Wrote last-minute,

But can't I at least have the gesture,

The chance to say "thanks"?

'Cause all I'm saying now is

"I'm too young to date anyway."

Yet the whole time, you were there,

And you gave me the best you had

Every stinkin' Valentine's Day,

But I couldn't see any of the

Gifts you made.

But you were never discouraged,

In fact, you worked even harder, and

Did everything you could to show me

That I was special to you.

And each year went by,

And I never returned your gifts

With my own Valentine,

Figuring that someone else would

Send you one instead.

And they did,

But I think you wanted one from me.

You kept working and working,

But then you started fainting and falling,

And Dad was screaming and screaming,

And I was crying for you to wake up,

For you to keep living,

For you to stop fading

Into a world that I knew you wouldn't

Want to come back from.

And suddenly I saw those Valentines,

As clearly as I saw you,

And when you opened your eyes

With those thin, white sheets wrapped around you,

I couldn't help but want to

Scream and shriek

Until my voice was gone

For being so stupid as to not

See all the work you've done

To make my perfect Valentines.

Rosetti was all about "Remember me when I'm gone,"

Ha! Not today!

I don't need to remember you,

At least not now.

Right now, I need to know you and

Not give you some stupid Hallmark card,

But an actual gift that'll let you know,

That I know you have been my Valentine from the start.

A/N: A late Valentine's Day poem for my mom :)
